You know, since FFXV is out and the long journey of development is over, one question jumped out at me: now what? I would like to think they who developed FFXV now help develop KH3, but there is nothing to back that claim. What now for a FF number title? Is it on to FFXVI?

The XV team going to help KH3's development is totally false as far as I'm aware. I've scoured through so many interviews and youtube videos to find nothing on the subject. It's just another one of those rumours and false claims, I used to believe it for a long time xD

Of course it's on to XVI, Final Fantasy is forever. FF15 isn't done, they still have

The steam/PC port

Updates to FF15 to improve the quality of the game-limited time quests, fixes to chapter 13, more cutscenes, more hunts and just more stuff to do. Hopefully less filler side quests and actual meaningful quests.Maybe another super boss?

More PS4 pro support (It will never hit 60 on a PS4 pro, Tabata even said that's only possible on the most powerful gaming PCs)

If you look at the pattern, the next FF game may have already begun development.

  • FF10 began development the same year FF9 was released
  • FF11 began development in 2000, FFX was released in 2001.
  • FF12 began development in December 2000.
  • FF13 began development in 2004, FF12 was released in 2006
  • FF14 began development in 2005
  • FF14 a realm reborn was released in 2013, FFXV began development in late 2012/early 2013.

16 is clearly in development right now. It could have started years ago. Also, Motmou Toriyama has gone under the radar and so has Hiroyuki Ito (FF6, FF9 and FF12 director).  Most people speculate that Ito is directing FF16. In the midst of writing this, I've come accross this brilliant compilation of info supporting my point! Toriyama might be directing FF10-3 or working on the FF7 remake, or something brand new.

He even has sources, but I'll put them here for anyone who doesn't like clicking links. Here is all the evidence towards Ito directing 16

1) Yoshinori Kitase (FFX, FFXIII Producer) said that we may get FFXV and FFXVI in the near future.

February 2012

(2) Hironobu Sakaguchi (Creator of FF series) told me face-to-face while he was in London to promote The Last Story, he believes Hiroyuki Ito can make FF a leading and respected RPG series again.

March 2012

(3) Shinichi Tatsuke (Producer within Square Enix Mobile Division), said that Hiroyuki Ito only provided the original concept for the iOS/Android game Guardian Cross, and was not a member of the actual development team.

July 2012

(4) Yoichi Wada (President of Square Enix) never debunked the rumor that Hiroyuki Ito was secretly directing FFXV, even though the rumor blew up on 2ch and various Japanese gaming blogs. However, two days later, he used Twitter to debunk the rumor that FF VersusXIII had been cancelled, which had shown up on 2ch earlier that day. Why didn't he debunk both rumors? There must have been some truth to the rumor about Ito.

August 2012

(5) Naoki Yoshida (FFXIV Producer/Director) said that Hiroyuki Ito was not working on FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. However, he wouldn't disclose what game Ito was working on.

(6) Naoki Yoshida said that FFXIV ARR is the starting point of regaining people's trust in the FF franchise. He added it will make people excited to see what will be in store for them in FFXV and FFXVI.

September 2012

(7) Hiroyuki Ito said that the current-gen (PS3/Xbox 360) was too weak to handle his gameplay ideas. The reason was due to him being held back by insufficient RAM and CPU power.

February 2013

(8) Naoki Yoshida said that back in December 2010, when he became Producer/Director of FFXV 1.0, many other staff were brought in from other projects. He added that Hiroshi Minagawa (Tactics Ogre PSP Director) is multi-tasking FFXIV ARR with another big project. Minagawa is not working on LR FFXIII or FFXV, so what other big project is he also working on? Bare in mind that Minagawa was the Director of FFXII alongside Hiroyuki Ito.

May 2013

(9) I asked Toshiyuki Itahana (FFIX Character Designer) via Twitter if Hiroyuki Ito will direct another mainline FF. He replied saying that he also respects Hiroyuki Ito as an amazing game creator, and that I should please look forward to Ito's next game.

(10) Nobuo Uematsu (Composer of FF series) told me face-to-face while he was in London for a Final Fantasy concert by the London Symphony Orchestra, he can guarantee that Hiroyuki Ito will direct another FF game. When I asked if Ito will direct either FFXV or FFXVI, he laughed and replied that his answer would get him in trouble with Square Enix.

June 2013

(11) FFXV was announced at E3 2013. Seeing as the game was originally announced as FF VersusXIII at E3 2006, which was 7 years ago, the game that was originally supposed to be FFXV must have therefore been renamed FFXVI and given more development time.

(12) Shinji Hashimoto (FF Brand Director) said during a Q&A after Square Enix's E3 2013 press conference, FFXV being an Action RPG will not alter the direction of the FF series. FFXV is a standalone title, with a real-time battle system being ideal for what it wants to achieve. He added that FFXVI could return to using something similar to the Active Time Battle (ATB) system.

July 2013

(13) Shinji Hashimoto said that Hiroyuki ito has been planning and proposing ideas for a new project. He added that Ito is putting a lot of depth into the gameplay systems and mechanics. As a result, development of this project would take some time.

September 2013

(14) Shinji Hashimoto told me face-to-face while he was in London for the European launch of KH 1.5 ReMIX, the reason Hiroyuki Ito hasn't worked on any current-gen (PS3/360) FF games is because he's been busy planning his own project. When I asked when his project will be announced, he replied saying that Ito's adding a lot of depth to the gameplay systems and mechanics. As a result, the announcement of this project will take some time.

(15) I asked Yasumi Matsuno (FFT, Vagrant Story Director) via Twitter if he would write the scenario for FFXVI if Hiroyuki Ito was the director. He replied saying he unfortunately had "certain reservations" about answering the question. In other words, the answer to the question was in NDA territory.

(16) Yasumi Matsuno announced that he was working on two new games with Playdek. However, he said he will not be directing either of them. The reason is because he's also got other projects going for other companies, some of which have assigned a large amount of work for him to do.

October 2013

(17) Motomu Toriyama (FFX, FFXIII Director) stated that the FFXIII team has yet to think about their next project after Lightning Returns: FFXIII. Instead, they're going to be take a vacation and when they come back from that, they'll then start brainstorming ideas for their next game.

(18) Motomu Toriyama told me face-to-face while he was in London for a community Q&A event for LR FFXIII, he would find it very unusual if Hiroyuki Ito never worked on another FF game.

November 2013

(19) The website http://www.agnisphilosophy.com was updated. The update added an employment page that listed various vacant positions on the Luminous Studio team. It also included a page with comments made by the current Luminous Studio staff. These comments included hints that another FF besides FFXV is already in production using the engine.

(20) Naoki Yoshida said that he's sure there will be a FFXV and FFXVI, but he will constantly try to bring in fresh, new material for FFXIV ARR. That way, it won't get ignored and forgotten by gamers when the newer mainline FF games release.

(21) Yoshinori Kitase said that the technical specs of PS4/One will allow battles in FFXVI to have many more participants involved; there will be more characters for the player to control and more enemies to defeat. He added that the Gambit system, which Hiroyuki Ito created in FFXII, may return and be used to help the player control all the characters available.

(22) Yoshinori Kitase told me face-to-face while he was in London for the European launch of LR FFXIII, the reason Hiroyuki Ito has not worked on the FFXIII trilogy, FFXIV ARR, and the forthcoming FFXV, is because he has his own development team at Square Enix and is busy leading his own project.

(23) Yoshinori Kitase confirmed the FFXII team, which is headed by Hiroyuki Ito, is still intact within Square Enix. Seeing as this team hasn't released a AAA game since FFXII International Zodiac Job System in 2007, it's safe to assume they're currently developing FFXVI for PS4/One.

(24) Yoshinori Kitase hinted that the platform of the FFXIII team's next project could be Smartphones and Tablets. He added that the team already devoted a decade to making the FFXIII trilogy for consoles, and during those 10 years, viable platforms like iOS and Android have appeared to also develop games for.

(25) Yoshinori Kitase stated that FFXVI would not be for Smartphones. The reason is because Square Enix always expects mainline FF games to be very high-end, top quality, high definition products, as it's the flagship global IP of the company.

(26) Hiroyuki Ito did an interview about his thoughts on the PS4 hardware, which was launching in Japan the following day. Ito said that the aspect of the PS4 he's mostly interested in is how it can connect to the PS Vita and provide a second screen for the player. He said the HDTV screen acts like a football stadium and is what everyone in the audience can see, while the PS Vita screen is seen only by the coach and is the means by which he gives orders to his team.

I think we'll be seeing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Episode 1 before XVI tbh, so if they didn't go to KH3, I think that's what they'll work on.

This would partially surprise me.  Final Fantasy is something that has been going strong since practically the dawn of RPGs.  I cannot imagine that the sales of FFXV would heavily reflect upon a Final Fantasy XVI being made.  The franchise has a huge name and generally sells well, even if it isn't as well-liked as it used to be.  I think something in the company would have to drastically change for a Final Fantasy sequel to not be in the works, considering they have been at it for so long and there's so many die-hard FF fans.  I think they will also see that FFXV had such a great reception, despite its lack of sales, that they would probably be enticed to make another Final Fantasy game for the franchise.

Well then, I've poured 15 hours into the game, and I am so hooked! The world of Eos is so vibrant and wondrous, and the combat system of this game is just so fun! Exploration and side quests are also enjoyable, and the story has me intrigued! Tabata and his team are really outdoing themselves!

And also, something I really love about the game is the conversations between the characters during gameplay! I love how they don't just talk in cutscenes, but they talk at random, and usually they have something interesting to say! Their conversations remind me of the skits from the Tales games! But anyways, hearing Noctis and friends talk the way they do makes me wish Kingdom Hearts III has a similar feature as well that has Sora and friends talking to each other at random while exploring and fighting! :D

Yes it will. FF is the 4th best selling VG franchise ever buddy, XV shipped 5 million units in 2 days to retailers. It doesn't matter whether the retailers sell them,Square have easily achieved their goal. Would Nintendo give up on Zelda because the sales aren't too good? FF will remain popular forever. They still have the 7 remake to bounce back on in case the pay off isn't too good. Out of curiosity, what do you consider good sales?

FF16 is happening right now, like it or not xD.

But anyways, hearing Noctis and friends talk the way they do makes me wish Kingdom Hearts III has a similar feature as well that has Sora and friends talking to each other at random while exploring and fighting! :D

Yeah I want some more character interaction in KH3 during exploration! Yeah it is quite similar to Tales actually xD

I think we'll be seeing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Episode 1 before XVI tbh, so if they didn't go to KH3, I think that's what they'll work on.

Yes definitely. A single part of the remake will probably sell more than XV and possibly XVI. We may as well consider FF7 remake a mainline title since it's such a big project. They won't go to KH3 anyway, not all of them like everyone thinks. They still have to patch XV, make the paid DLC and make the extra content/fixes to the game's story, plus more bosses and hunts. Not to mention Type Next, FF1 remake or Crisis Core HD.

I love the interactions after sleep that sometimes happen

There is a convo between Noct and Prompto that references the anime after you sleep in the 2nd outpost's motel at night, I really liked it.

Here is everything I'd like them to add in and fix, this contains spoilers for the whole game

More hunts and meaningful side quests, maybe some more super bosses?

Either let us explore Tenebrae or Solheim in an open world cause why the heck not? We can just take a boat or fly the Regalia off screen, I was shocked as hell when I found out neither of them were playable. The Duscae region gets boring to look at eventually. Obviously this would take time but I wouldn't put it above Tabata. It was very disappointing considering Tenebrae was in the world of wonder trailer...

Add another difficulty setting

More costumes-Cloud Strife outfit?

When we select healing items-no pausing the screen, it makes things too easy

Way more cutscenes-How did Ardyn kill Ravus and Iedolas?

More exploration of the dark Lucis in chapter 15.

Extra nods on the Ascension grid

More weapons

Yes it will. FF is the 4th best selling VG franchise ever buddy, XV shipped 5 million units in 2 days to retailers. It doesn't matter whether the retailers sell them,Square have easily achieved their goal. Would Nintendo give up on Zelda because the sales aren't too good? FF will remain popular forever. They still have the 7 remake to bounce back on in case the pay off isn't too good. Out of curiosity, what do you consider good sales?

FF16 is happening right now, like it or not xD.

Just to note-Nomura did make the base story for Versus 13 as far as I am aware, but Nojima did all the scenario writing. Hence Nojima wrote the scenes.

Did some digging and found the entire list of people, this was in 2015.

I don't think sales matter, even though XIII was bad, more main FF games were made. I think FFXVI will happen regardless.

Regardless of bad reviews, XIII sold like hotcakes in Japan. Now the Western world matters to SE, and that'll make all the difference.

Yeah I want some more character interaction in KH3 during exploration! Yeah it is quite similar to Tales actually xD

Yeah, it would be awesome! Like, hearing Donald banter with Goofy about something, or just any kind of conversation at all! And yeah, it shares that similarity with the Tales games! Let's hope Kingdom Hearts III takes a page from XV in regards to character interaction!

I liked them too

There is a convo between Noct and Prompto that references the anime after you sleep in the 2nd outpost's motel at night, I really liked it.

Oh, is it the conversation about when Prompto met Noctis and they became friends? Cuz if so, that was a really heartfelt conversation, and I really loved it, as it provided character depth! I haven't watched Brotherhood though, so I didn't know that conversation was referencing the anime!

And yeah, I know what you mean! I already had random after sleep conversations with Ignis and Prompto!

They actually remind me more of the party banter in Dragon Age: Inquisition

I haven't played that game, so I can't agree or disagree with you, so I'll take your word for it! I've heard the Dragon Age games are good, though!

Well, I say that because Tales Skits have artwork of the characters and tend to happen in specific locations, in DA:I there's no artwork and placement is completely random, like in FFXV.

Found this great video, no story spoilers-just gameplay discussion.

GILGAMESH IS RETURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO Gladio's DLC!!!!

“The player confronts an enemy called Gilgamesh, who can only be seen in Episode Gladio.” For those that have played the main game, there’s a key moment this content seems to fit into. At some point during the course of the story, Gladiolus drops from your party to take care of business on his own, returning more battle damaged than before. It’s very convenient.

You'll also be able to explore areas that weren't in the main game!!!

“We’re also planning on content that will truly blow your mind,” Sawatari concludes in his little mini-interview in the promotional book. That parts of FF15 felt incomplete is a little frustrating, but as we said in our review we left the experience eager to see more. So… call us cautiously optimistic.

Just finished the game myself and I gotta say that as my first Final Fantasy that I've played in awhile (since Crisis Core at least), it was definitely really enjoyable and in fact I actually liked it more than I thought I would. However, one peculiar thing that I had happen to me during my playthrough was a odd and somewhat frustrating glitch which had me stuck floating in the air and incapable of doing anything; this happened during a certain boss fight...

( Disclaimer: what he says is subjective )

While I have not played FFXV, I have watched LPs of the game and even though I can't judge it based on the feel of the gameplay I can of purely visual things like the story and stuff. So, if I didn't watch Kingsglave and Brotherhood... I don't think I would like this story that much.

I wanted to share this here because I believe people should view and judge something by looking at both sides of the coin, in this case the good and the bad about FFXV, and then pick which side they want to put it on while still acknowledging that the other side exists.

I still like the story and the characters (I still don't like Luna), probably because I watch the anime and the movie first, but at least I now know the problems that exist with the game. I just hope KH3 doesn't pull a DLC story thing because I can see two places where they could do that, Riku and Kairi.
