For those who have already mistakenly purchased the theme(s), we recommend contacting PSN support to ask for a refund. Sony may ask for proof that the themes are free. One feature that may be familiar to fans is the unlockable themes that players can obtain after completing each title. In both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX & HD 2.5 ReMIX, these themes were free for players and were able to download and put these themes on their home screens after completion. However, for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the themes are currently not free. Once you complete each title in the collection (Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, & Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover) you will receive the option to obtain the theme for that individual title. However, they are currently priced at $2.99 when you select them to download. While it may seem like an error, seeing as they are free everywhere else, reddit user AsinineBinkie reports that they got a response from Square Enix support that read as follows: Please note, completing KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue will only unlock the ability to purchase the PlayStation themes, it is not a reward that is received for free for beating the game. We do apologize for the confusion. Keep in mind that Square Enix has not made a public comment on the themes as of yet. Also, please note that the priced themes are only shown in the North American version of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. I read one that the 0.2 one was dynamic, but I haven't played yet, so I dunno for sure. That said, pretty sure this was just something they thought they could get away with until people complained. I'd love to be wrong though. Hopefully they at least change it regardless of the original intent; even without other regions getting it for free, it's still pretty scummy. blue490246 43 Posted January 25, 2017 it was free on the JP version too, cant believe SE in NA would claim theyre not free, that customer service response was absurd. I compared my JP copy to my friend's NA one and noticeably theres even a difference in the blu-ray case quality with the NA one being flimsier. Even the insert in the JP ver wasnt just promoting more products and actually had a mini guide to teach you how to play the game. SENA needs to stop focusing on only the money part of the business... I got the 0.2 one, and its a bit pink for my tastes lol there were no KH sounds or music as part of the theme unfortunately. Kinda noob at the terminology so im not sure if the theme is considered dynamic, but it just contains different drawings of Aqua on different parts of the Home menu. EndOfTheWorld 23 Posted January 25, 2017 I dont believe that this is intentional, otherwise the themes would've cost something on the JP and EU versions too. I really hope they are not serious with this because 2,99$ for a firetrucking theme is way too much...it shouldnt even cost anything since it already comes as an unlock bonus.
