Mere words can't express how excited I am for this now. I was already anticipating it with hope before, but now I'm actually hyped! The legacy of Unleashed is back baby! This is honestly what they should have done from the beginning after Generations, just stick to a style that works and keep refining and adding to it to make it even better with each successive title. I mean that's what they did for the Adventure style gameplay, and that essentially evolved into the Boost formula, and now we've got a triumphant return. I mean, I guess it's fair that they also mixed in some elements and assets of Lost World in there, though I personally would have preferred everything to keep the aesthetic of Generations. Still, it is what it is and it still looks amazing, I can't wait until we can get a more proper resolution later today, and I can't wait to see how the other 2 gameplay styles work under this new Hedgehog Engine 2, and of course getting to hear the vocals to that epic theme. This year is surely going to be one to remember for Sonic the Hedgehog!

I'm very excited for this!!! Sure hope Shadow is a playable character in this new game. And I hope is a good as my two favorite Sonic games, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.

God, I'm in love with that main theme. They've said that there's definitely going to be a version of the song with vocals too, which is ridiculously enticing. I so want to harken back to those early-to-mid-2000s tunes, and if we get a Crush 40 version, I'm seriously gonna lose my shit.

While i think the game looks decent i just want to ask, how can you guys still be excited for a new Sonic game?

 

i'm not trying to be rude i just want some insight from Sonic fans since (at least for me) i find it hard to be excited for a new Sonic game when they released so many crappy and clearly unfinished games in the past.

Yeah. Screw all the people hating on this new Sonic game. I am glad that they are sticking to a system that has worked since Unleashed. I hope we get more gameplay and a new trailer for this at this year's E3.

Well, for one, they are bringing back a gameplay mechanic that worked for modern Sonic games. Plus, compared to games like Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. This game looks like it will meet expectations for a lot of Sonic fans.

As long as Graff and Pontac aren't writing for it, I think we'll be just fine. But then again, you never know. Iizuka wanted to keep the Wisps, maybe he still wants to keep his favorite writing staff around too, even though they can't write for anything that isn't Happy Tree Friends.

I, for one, liked Unleashed, so this is already a good first impression in my book.

 

Still, for some reason, the title alone makes it sound like a sequel to Sonic Heroes. Just sing the chorus of Heroes but replace Heroes with "Forces", you'll get what I mean.

From the news that I heard, apparently there's going to be three distinct styles of gameplay. I can already guess as to how it's going to pan out...

Because reviews hold over my personal opinion. Just saying I don't expect much from it because it looks like a copy pasted Generations which was what I feared. Don't get me wrong, I sort of enjoyed Generations, but Forces could have been better from what we've been given so far.

It's a Sonic game, not Shakespeare. Even the best Sonic narratives don't boil down to much other than "Sonic saves the day from Eggman again".

 

And we don't even know the plot for this game. Sure, it could be identical to Generations, but even if its not, it's a game. Play the game and judge it based on the gameplay merits, you know, the ones that matter and what gave Generations all those good scores.

Whaaaaaaat, come on. It's a silly cartoon! It's obviously geared towards kids while having all the throwbacks an adult fan could ever want. The chili dog wasn't the crux of the story, it was a joke/reference. Monster/Eggman attacks Sonic and all his friends, Sonic beats monster/Eggman (or is it Eggmen at that point? Hmm) and saves all his friends. Not because of a chili dog, but because he's the hero, dude! He's way past cool!

 

It's a Sonic game, not Shakespeare. Even the best Sonic narratives don't boil down to much other than "Sonic saves the day from Eggman again".

Well, I meant complex in the way that Kingdom Hearts is complex.

 

And yeah, Unleashed was kinda there. The gorgeous cartoon-y art style and over-the-top nature of literally putting the planet back together like a puzzle gave it that Saturday morning cartoon vibe that I think fits Sonic to a T. It still suffers from ancient prophecies about the destruction of all life and the eternal battle between Light and Dark Gaia (and how the taint of evil somehow makes Sonic buff, hairy and spiky for some reason) which I think is super out of place and veers way too hard into JRPG territory. It's certainly not as big an offender as Sonic 06, but I'd still never call it good.

 

This is also another reason I'm hype for Forces; I'd heard somewhere that I can't recall at the moment that despite the early trailer and gameplay footage, the game's not going to have an overall dark tone. I'd like to imagine it's going to be more of the fun light-hearted adventure aspects of Unleashed and less of the "fighting ancient evil with the forces of pure light" aspect.
