RUMOR: PlayStation Official Magazine UK claims Kingdom Hearts III is "split" between Sora and Riku's perspectives and will feature a Fantasia world

Recommended Posts

In the January 2018 issue of PlayStation Official Magazine UK published back in December, and the February issue of PlayStation Official Magazine - Australia published recently, Kingdom Hearts III was featured in the Previews section. In its short blurb, it is claimed that the game is split between the perspectives of both Sora and Riku, and that a world based upon the Disney movie "Fantasia" will be present in the game. Other bits of information that we already knew about it were also stated, such as needing to stop Xehanort from starting another Keyblade War, a Toy Story world and a Tangled world being present, Drive Forms returning, wall-running, and more.

You can view the Kingdom Hearts III section from the magazine in the album below:

Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted at a second playable character in Kingdom Hearts III before, and has more recently confirmed a second playable character in the game, but it is currently unknown as to what character this is.

The alleged claim of the game being split between the perspectives of Sora and Riku seems to hint at the fact that Riku could be the second playable character in Kingdom Hearts III. But, as this is only stated in PlayStation Official Magazine UK and PlayStation Official Magazine - Austrailia, and not stated by Square Enix or Tetsuya Nomura, or accompanied by any interview or direct statement, it is difficult to judge the validity of these statements.

As for the comment about the Fantasia world, a Fantasia-themed world titled "Symphony of Sorcery" has been featured in the series before in the title "Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance." These statements overall sound very similar to Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, as the game included both a Fantasia-themed world, as well as it being from the perspectives of both Sora and Riku. It's possible that they are confusing some elements of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance with Kingdom Hearts III. It's also possible that they are simply referring to The Mysterious Tower when they say that a Fantasia world will be in the game.

We have contacted PlayStation Official Magazine UK for clarification.

What are your thoughts on this Kingdom Hearts III excerpt from the January 2018 issue of PlayStation Official Magazine UK and the February 2018 issue of PlayStation Official Magazine - Australia? I don't know what to make of this. When was this released? I don't think they'd put in another Fantasia world

not sure, but I think the it got released this year because I see 2018 in the title. I can barely see the 8 in the 2018

I REALLY hope it won't. I'm such a huge fan of Riku but he had a lot of development instead of others who barely appear, I hope it's a circumstantial phrase and the other character will be YX or YEraqus (and cause of the leaks, the thing that cutscene is the start of the game and cause Nomura said that the second character will tied to a certain world I think and hope it will one of them)

P.s. by the way a story for Riku would be great for a DLC

It was released this week

Uh... Fantasia? Are they getting this mixed up over Dream Drop Distance?

I was just reading elsewhere, but they could use Fantasia 2000.

I think it's most likely a mistake, because they also mentioned a Fantasia world would be in it, and Riku being playable and Fantasia as a world were both things in DDD. They most likely messed up and confused some things about DDD with KH3.

Sounds like a load of generalised fluff with no hardcore facts. Not even Sony Playstation cares enough about KH to write a decent article.

This reminds of a story back in yee olden times in 2017 when Nomura said something like "We are currently taking a new approach with these worlds that will not have Sora and co. visiting worlds more than once." Now as 2 quid is good mentioned: we have a confirmed second playable character. So if we put both of those facts together y'know what that tells me?

Nothing.

We may in fact be visiting these worlds twice as the second playable character. I believe it will be Riku since we made him stronger in DDD to be a Keyblade Master and it would be a shame to not put this new found power to the test. Also we have to get Aqua out of the Dark World so I think we will play as him. Not only in the Dark World but also in some of the Disney worlds to pass a bit of time on for him before the great showdown.

So to summarise - hey where did everybody go...

In the official PlayStation magazine, there's a small snippet which has lead me to believe that Riku is playable in KHIII, which is news to me but may not be for some of you. I'll post the image so you can judge for yourself. attachicon.gifDSC_0070.JPG

I mean, these types of magazines are not always 100% accurate and mistakes can happen in the editorial department, so honestly, they could have confused some things with Dream Drop.

I think they are it sounds like DDD.

It really does sound like it.

That's strange though, they also mention Toy Story and the returning Drive Forms... Also, KH3 and DDD don't really look like the same game lol

Yeah. Very different. Unless they are talking about Fantasia 2000.

It was released this week

I was just reading elsewhere, but they could use Fantasia 2000.

Probably so. I want to fight that Firebird.

They are clearly saying Fantasia and Tangled.

I know, but. Putting aside Tangled (cause we already know it's confirmed), either they are getting it mixed up with DDD or maybe probably referring to Fantasia 2000.

I doubt this is true, at least not all of it. Wasn't it said in a recent interview that there would be a second playable character but only within a specific world? I would hardly consider that being a split perspective in a massive game if it's only for the duration of one world.

Another thing is that Sora has always been the main playable character in numbered titles and if I remember correctly, that was also touched upon in interviews when it came to other playable characters.

It doesn't rule out the possibility for Riku being the second playable character, although my guess is another, but this does sound way too much like DDD.

They just described two things that happened DDD perfectly. Honestly I'm going to go with them being confused. Like have you guys ever said DDD out loud? I always say "Kingdom Hearts three D", I couldn't blame them if they got confused. KH has some of the worst names for releases.

I think that Playstation Magazine was looking at the Plot of Kingdom Hearts 3 that Square Enix gave us back in 2013

Sora, Donald, and Goofy set out to search for the Seven Guardians of Light and the Key to Return Hearts. Meanwhile, Riku and Mickey are on a different quest looking for previous Keyblade wielders.

If you read it like that, it sure looks like that you will be able to play both Sora and Riku.
And i hope we will!
