[Updated] Famitsu to feature Kingdom Hearts III: Nomura comments on secret movie, capacity shortage, Final Mix, and more

Recommended Posts

Kingdom Hearts III will be featured on the first July issue of Weekly Famitsu, to be released on June 21, 2018! This issue will include Kingdom Hearts III on the cover and an interview with series director Tetsuya Nomura.

The blogs Hokanko(Alt) and Hachima have posted summaries of the information regarding Kingdom Hearts III coming in this issue.

The following is new information we have extracted from Hokanko(Alt). Translations were provided by KH13 Staff Mio-chan and Keytotruth.

  • In the Pirates of the Caribbean world, the box in the second movie, Dead Man's Chest, is linked to the black box that Maleficent and the "true" Organization XIII seek. (Note: By the box in the second Pirates movie, they are most likely referring to the Dead Man's Chest itself.)
  • The "Remy's Delicious Restaurant" mini-game can be played in Twilight Town.
  • Tangled's world has a rhythm-based mini-game (seen previously in the exclusive Kingdom Hearts Orchestra trailer in Los Angeles). Everything the staff has been suggesting has been mostly implemented.
  • The Classic Kingdom is a project By Nomura himself; he wanted to create and add as many mini-games as possible.
  • Nomura talked about Situation Commands, Attractions, Links, and invoking Dream Eaters.
  • Even if it’s for running around, Nomura thinks that having the game in hand can be fun. Using Situation Commands, strategies can be planned within a limited time.
  • It doesn’t matter if you use the Situation commands while you’re unfamiliar with them, just press buttons and try them!
  • Attractions are activated under certain conditions, in certain places and according to the previous command.
  • Even if you don’t intend to use the Keyblade's new system, it remains fun as you can perform various techniques. If you’re skilled enough, an efficient strategy can be established.
  • You can experiment different actions through their transformations. Non-transformable Keyblades perform special moves. The Kingdom Key allows Sora to use techniques he used in the past.
  • Links have been changed several times, and the shape of Disney characters’ borrowed power is yet to be decided and are named when you settle to use them in combat. Not only are characters from previous opus along with their skills back, but the player can also intervene when linking with them.
  • The Summon system allows you to call a Meow Wow and all kinds of Dream Eaters. All of them couldn't make it into the game, but with the Link you can make a lot of Dream Eaters appear.
  • In this game, Sora has less decorations to match his more dynamic action and active image.
  • Nomura affirms that Sora, Riku, and Kairi's outfits match each other slightly, eg. all have plaid.
  • Vanitas resurrects, and the other Organization members, after turning back into humans, once again turn into nobodies and resurrect in a different way. The ones that collaborated with Sora resurrect the way they are.
  • The place where Lea and Kairi are training is a new location where you can't go to.
  • Aqua has surprised everyone more than expected. The King and Riku appear in a scene where they are in trouble. Aside from Aqua, there are a lot of other characters that will have everything explained about them, so writing the scenario was very hard.
  • A secret movie for Kingdom Hearts III has been made, but is not finalized yet. (Note: This is likely referring to an unlockable secret ending for the game, eg. "Another side, Another story..." and "The Gathering".)
  • It's difficult to give a figure for percentage completion at the time. A major concern for Kingdom Hearts III is its high volume being met by capacity shortage. This is exacerbated by some cut-scenes that are being made into movies for load time reduction, but consequently require more capacity than expected.
  • Lip sync data is also a concern; switching between Japanese and English audio is very tough.
  • A Final Mix version isn't under consideration since there's also the problem with running out of space. Nomura has plans to release updates as DLC, so even if they do that, it won't be a Final Mix.
  • About DLC, they haven't decided on details, but Nomura wants it to be something that expands the ways you can play in. They won't be working on that until they are finished with the main game.
Hachima's summary also included the above points, and also mentioned that the world of The Caribbean is set during Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, but the story from Dead Man's Chest is touched upon in synopsis.

We will be updating our translations as well as reporting on the Kingdom Hearts III feature on Famitsu Weekly, which will release tomorrow (in Japan). Keep an eye on our website, as well as Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr for updates!

the other members of the Organization return to humans once again

I'm a bit confused by this (regarding the new Org.'s Norted members); so they reverted to human form after the end of KH2 (as expected) and stayed as humans (as opposed to reverting back to Nobody form) when they joined the new Org., am I reading this right? [in which case using their Nobody names would indicate subservience to the new Org., as it did in the original.]

(That doesn't fully explain the discrepancy with Braig in coded 2.5's secret ending, though...)

I hope a proper translation of the full thing clears this up.

The members of the New Organization were brought back through time travel (everyone’s favorite plot point…), so the people who are helping Sora are Even, Ienzo, Dilan, and Aeleus.

So now no one can wonder if ther will be a final mix. But wow, they have made this title so big that they are limited on space. #GOAT

That's how it usually is, take a look at SE games, they're some of the biggest games (for instance, TWEWY Solo Remix on mobile and FFXIII-2 on 360. And we're not even talking about FFXV on Windows).

We know that some of them are utilising time travel, but not all (I was talking about the new Org. members, the apprentices were irrelevant to my question).

Also, derp, looks like my question was partly answered after I left for a bit. Now I'm left looking a bit silly.

I hope a proper translation of the full thing clears this up.

the translations are now up! and... it's still confusing... basically what we (translators) have understood is that the "true" organization members (i.e. the xehanorts) had turned back to human (after of course their heartless and nobody were defeated), but they turned BACK into Nobodies, but in a different way than usual. This was a difficult statement to translate as it was very confusing... but maybe that's just Nomura and his shenanigans again.

My own explanation follows, doesn't mean it's canon:

That's why Larxene, Marluxia, Saix and Xigbar look the same as before but with yellow eyes. ALSO, Xigbar is still called Xigbar I believe - because Young Xehanort called him that in DDD. So that supports this statement that he has indeed become a Nobody again - but via another route/system.

Notice Lea and Ienzo look the way they looked before, along with Even, Aeleus, and Dilan when they were shown in DDD. They look different from their Nobody forms (eg. Lea without the tattoos).

its not really a secret movie if you tell everyone about it

It's still secret if you can't obtain it just by playing through but have to meet certain conditions and/or if the criteria for receiving it aren't revealed. :D

Though I guess the term secret is used rather liberately with KH, which is okay for me. I rememember many people calling 0.2's ending a secret ending although everyone got it by simply playing through the game and waiting for the credits to run through.

That interview part about the True Organization is indeed rather confusing and doesn't answer anything and only serves to create more questions. It could be uwed to answer why Xigbar changed this drastically from his BBS appearance to his current one, though time travel is also a possibility.

Though I would still question why it would be a necessity to turn them into Nobodies again. Might have something to do with this darkness against light thing since I don't believe most members of either faction fit the initial description of how the X-Blade was split.

Eh. I don't really want to put too much effort into theories somehow because the game is this close to release and things might get retconned anyway.

But thanks for translating it! It's always great to read these types of things, althought it might make things more confusing. But that seems to be what Nomura likes to do anyway.

Side Question: why does Kairi address Lea as Axel in one of the e3 trailers? Is he Axel or Lea?? In DDD we see him return to his human form and his eye markings are gone, the same as in the trailer. He should be a complete human,no?

Just a habit, I guess? Or maybe he just identifies with that name more now?

  • In the Pirates of the Carribean world, the box in the second movie, Dead Man's Chest, is linked to the black box that Maleficent and the "true" Organization XIII seek. (Note: By the box in the second Pirates movie, they are most likely referring to the Dead Man's Chest itself.)

So they are including Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest in this game. I like that they're making Davy Jones chest link to the Black Box that Maleficent and the Organization XIII are looking for. Very smart and creative thinking Nomura!

  • Vanitas resurrects, and the other Organization members, after turning back into humans, once again turn into nobodies and resurrect in a different way. The ones that collaborated with Sora resurrect the way they are.

So does that mean I can kill Larxene again and free her from that old fart Master Xehanort? Man I hope so and I hope that means I might see her human form Arlene.

Side Question: why does Kairi address Lea as Axel in one of the e3 trailers? Is he Axel or Lea?? In DDD we see him return to his human form and his eye markings are gone, the same as in the trailer. He should be a complete human,no?

That's Lea and he's human again. The reason why everyone calls him Axel was because everyone keeps calling that in Dream Drop Distance even though Lea keeps telling people that he's Lea. Plus, Lea even said that they were people again in DDD after he woke up. However, after Lea save Sora he pretty much gave up and said "No! I told you my name is...whatever Axel fine. Now let's get out of here." He's still Lea but everyone is just used to calling him Axel.

Honestly it's for the best that there's no final mix, especially if it means that any DLC added would be available to ALL countries. Because at this point, after giving everybody the Final Mixes once in the ReMIXes, there's no way they would be able to get away with Japan-only exclusive game content today.

The Famitsu article also confirms Aqua is possessed by Xehanort specifically. Shown here.

According to Aibo from Twitter, Nomura is treating the DLC in an interesting way, he said it would be a 'single delivery of content, in a flipboard style.:

The Japanese says nothing about flipboard anything. Don't use machine translation as a source, please. It does nothing but confuse everyone.
