Maybe Remake, and Compilation, and just the original OG game by itself are 3 separate timelines.

So OG can be left alone, and, then the compilation; mostly CC and Dirge, is what's connected to the Remakes the most.

No, he was always in control. He used Jenova for his benefit. He's the one who controlled Cloud to

give him the Black Materia to him, and messed with him throughout the game.
