First things first: this isn't just a demo, it's the prologue. I recommend you download it if you plan on playing the full game.
USE MY POWER OR DIE. I AM YOUR SALVATION.
The Darkness II gives you the full power of the Darkness. You may remember that in the orignal game, the symbiote was mostly a tool, but the sequel turns it into a weapon. They can manipulate the environment (even people), lifting heavy objects and tossing them around with ease. It can also be used for physical attack. By pressing the R2 button and moving the right analog stick simultaneously, you can whip the dark tendril in any direction you wish, allowing for devestationg combos in close-quarters. Gunplay's been reworked; guns are easy to control and you always know how much ammo you have. The HUD has also been updated, showing you your health and ammo all the time.
The Darkness II brings the return of Jackie Estacado, the Italian-American mobster and host to the Darkness. The prologue opens in the first-person as Jackie gets his bearings. He looks to the side, watching as his hands are nailed to a makeshift crucifix, a sinister purple lantern sitting in front of him. The biggest problem for him, however, is the spotlight shining in his face.
A deformed man demands that Jackie submit the Darkness to him, threatening to kill his Aunt Sarah if he refuses. The game then changes to a few hours earlier. Jackie enters a restaurant with his pal Vinnie before the place is overrun by mobsters. You get your first taste of actions as Vinnie drags your body through the restaurant, enemies coming from all directions. After you get outside, the Darkness comes into play. It is an ever-present force in the sequel, whereas you had to activate it in the first game. As Jackie blows his way through his attackers, he is haunted by visions of Jenny, the guilt of her death still chewing at his mind. I don’t want to spoil any developments in the story…
Your greatest enemy is light, and if you get caught directly in it, the Darkness will vanish, leaving you on your own until you step into the shadows. Enemies can be shot, crushed, decapitated, mutilated, executed... if you can imagine it, you can kill with it. The dark minions also make a return, although they seem to be constantly with you (At least, in the prologue).
It’s kind of hard to type right now (and the site's giving me crap for some reason), but I hope I got the idea across. All in all, I’m pretty excited for the game after playing this.
