It's been a long time now, but my ex boyfriend starting texting and emailing me. I'm really happy where I am right now, and I really don't want to have anything to do with him ever again. I don't really know what to say to most of his texts. They're mostly just "I'm sorry for what I did, I'll never hit you again" "I'm sorry that I treated you that way, I know now that I should never hurt a girl" etc. I'm honestly not sure what to do. I wouldn't ever go back out with him, but I don't know whether I should accept the apologies and talk to him or not. I don't know if it's right to forgive him and try to be amicable, or whether I should just tell him to never talk to me again. Does anyone know what I should say?

girl i understand you right now if you don't want him to talk to you then just accept his apologie but let him know you don't wanna talk to him or anything

You could try talking to him and see if he really is sorry about it or not. It is up to you overall though whether or not to forgive him so maybe give it a bit of time also if you can.

I can't say I have experience with this sort of thing, but even if he's truly sorry, it's your decision whether to forgive him or not, especially after what he'd done to you.  Based on the accounts I've heard from other sources out there, abusive bridges are generally left burned.  Remorseful or not, you can consider never interacting with him again to be the consequence for his actions.  Maybe he'll learn and move on and treat his partner the way he should.

"Leave me the firetruck alone. I never want to talk to you again." That works pretty good.

It doesn't matter what the most "Right" thing to do is. He's an abusive piece of shit who wronged you and like Draco said, he will never learn his lesson unless you do what's right for you. You can go about burning the bridge nicely but depending on his personality he might not let it drop if you aren't firm in your decision. And depending on what you mean by "Should say" same deal. I'd go with what Xaon has.

We all want to be nice, but I have no room in my heart for abusers or oppressors.  It might be hard for you to get mean, but if he was mistreating you like that I don't think he even deserves a response...  I've seen this happen to people up close and, honestly, I just wouldn't talk to him anymore.

Again, I hate being mean, but I'd tell him to go away rather bluntly.  And leave it at that.  As hard as it might be, I think you'll be glad later down the road that you did it.  You don't want to be involved with someone like that because they could just find new ways to get at you.

Forgive. Always Forgive No Matter How Hard. That Doesn't Mean You Should Keep Him In Your Life Though

Thanks for all of the advice, guys. I really appreciate it! I decided I'm just going to ignore all of his texts and emails--he'll get the message. I don't really want to get into a confrontation with him, which is why I'm not saying anything to him instead.

@Pretium

No, forgiveness is not always the answer. Would you forgive someone who murdered your family and felt no remorse? No, they don't deserve it.
