I'm going to be starting Final Fantasy XII soon (It's going to be my last ever PS2 game).

 

I'm wondering how long will it be without side quests? I'm only concerned with completing the game asap. I don't care about side quests for this one, just wanting to enjoy the story and finish it asap.

 

And can anyone give me some advice on it for when I start?

I never use guides when playing a game. I always find they spoil the game.

About 70 hours, i think......

 

I'm finished the game about 90 hours of gameplay, included sidequest and hunts because it give some good equipment.

If not, i will be underpowered when fighting bosses and getting beaten up easily.

 

And of course.... i always lack of money, except before the final boss. So, i always waste time to steal and collected loot.

I suggest you check the shops often for new weapons and armor. And I almost always use heavy armor. 

I just barely finished the game, and without doing any of the extra hunts or sidequests, I'd say it took me around 60 hours.

 

In the ways of advice,

• Be ready to level grind a bit between areas 
• Figure out how to chain hunt for money quickly so that you can buy the best armor, which helps a TON
• Mix up your weapons and job classes, at least until you have excess points on your Licence Board to give everyone full life or whatever.  Have a few people with long range weapons (probably your mages) because it's helpful to have someone survive when everyone else gets instantly KOed.
• If there's a random blue save point in the middle of a cave or something definitely use it, because more often than not it indicates an Esper ahead, in my experience.
• Always have Basch use a hammer-type weapon, because he is definitely Thor.
• I hope you appreciate Star Wars IV-VI.  It's a trap.

if you just level up a lot at the beginning of the game and grab a couple of kotetsus off the local werewolves the rest of the game is pretty much a breeze.

keep up with spells and junk as the vendors update frequently.
