March 17, 201411 yr Yeah, I will honestly say that pissed me off. RPG's were founded on their stories and not so much on game play. I personally like them experimenting and making memorable stories and characters, game play is a never ending experiment
March 17, 201411 yr Yeah, I will honestly say that pissed me off. RPG's were founded on their stories and not so much on game play. I personally like them experimenting and making memorable stories and characters, game play is a never ending experiment While the story is important, the main goal of an RPG is to make the player feel involved in their world, give them a lot of choices that they themselves make, and to give them their own experience. The video was commenting on how Square Enix has recently been removing all of those open choices, and forcing the players to go through the game a certain way, and ruin that level of immersion. Back in the day of, say, Final Fantasy V, we were given the choice to choose from a long list of jobs, and each one had a completely different effect on the characters. The game also wasn't focused completely on interactions between the characters, which helped the player feel at least a little more involved. I haven't played Lightning Returns (Nor do I plan to), but from what I've seen, there's no level of immersion, and the only choices you can really make are what perverted costume you want the character to wear. The level of immersion has decreased drastically over time.

The level of immersion has decreased drastically over time. Final Fantasy(from IV up until even XII even though I hate 12) has been alway,ALWAYS about the beautiful blend and integration between the story and gameplay that immerse you into the experience, sure there is a kind of linear story telling, but the past games always gave you the choice to go out and explore places that the game didn't told you to see, visit some optional dungeons, play some mini-games,beat some superbosses and finish a variety of sidequests It always felt open and welcoming especially in IV,VI,VII and IX.A nice and beautiful mix of story and gameplay Lightning Returns FFXIII has none of that, heck even XIII's linear boring hallways were more fun than this overglorified fetchquesting piece of shit of a game with a story that's on a level lower than a fan fiction, emotionless main character that doesn't react to anything,an illusion of an open world that doesn't even feel that open once you realize you're running around in circles,a leveling up system that's stupid, tedious and boring to no end and an ending that's the equivalent of a giant middle finger to anyone who loved the previous XIII games I.......I'm sorry I can't continue this anymore
