For just random YouTube videos, I prefer 480p. My internet is slow, and 480p gives me the best quality/buffer-time ratio on short videos. If I'm watching a movie/anime/etc., I'll choose the highest quality available and just wait awhile for it to buffer.

I go with whatever the automatic resolution is. My computer goes really slow when I try to watch anything in HD, so it's typically 480. When I watch stuff on my TV through Netflix or Hulu, I'd imagine it's 720 or 1080, I never bother to check. I'm used to lower resolutions, so I'm not terribly picky.

cant go higher than 720p or my laptop will overheat.keeping it at a safe 360p.and since when does it go to 2160p?!

2160p is 4K. YouTube's been able to do it for ages. Netflix supports it as well I've heard.
