Veemon 1,540 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) I've been thinking about how Riku and Terra have been able to use the darkness while still being on the good side. This is making me wonder if darkness is really fully affiliated with evil. I mean, think about it, if it can be controlled by a good hearted person, then that must mean darkness can be a good thing, right? Sure, It is used a lot of times by evil beings and things, but that just means darkness is a nil thing, not taken sides until controlled. I just thought of something! I remembered that Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts 2 said that the heartless only obey the one with the strongest heart. If so, does this mean that ANYONE can control the heartless as long as they have a strong heart? So, like, if Sora were to become stronger than Xehanort, would that mean Sora would be able to control the heartless?! Am I getting this straight? (I couldn't find the scene on YouTube, but feel free to look it up. If I remember correctly, Xemnas was explaining to Maleficent in the cutscene exactly this and that he was controlling the heartless, not Maleficent.) Movies798 1,358 Posted May 25, 2015 No darkness is not really evil. The way I see it is what really makes people evil is their beliefs and evilness in their heart. Dark powers doesn't mean evil. 2 Henne and Veemon reacted to this
Yuya Sakaki 5,212 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) I think you should have posted this in the General Kingdom Hearts section if you wanted to discuss this seriously. x3 But anyway, in the world of KH or any franchise in general, light and dark typically represent good and evil respectively. Of course, there are some exceptions like Riku and Terra, as you have stated. Now I think the the light and darkness thing is just too black and white. I wanna see it go into more depth in KHIII and beyond. Like I have a theory where clashing light and dark isn't the right thing to do, as it has resulted in many tragic events in the past KH games. I think if the Guardians of Light fight back with both darkness AND light, they may have a shot at winning without causing too much destruction. I think this is why people like Riku and Terra are essential to the story. It gives an example of how dark CAN be used for good. And that quote you said about the Heartless was from Saïx: "The heartless ally with whoever's the strongest." He doesn't necessarily mean the strongest HEART. Peace! But anyway, you're absolutely right about battling the darkness using both light AND dark. Because liked my signature says,"Darkness isn't evil. People just use it for evil." As for that last paragraph, thanks for clearing that up! But still, this still means that if Sora becomes stronger than Xehanort, he might be able to control the heartless? Hazimie 1,595 Posted May 25, 2015 "Aw, we don't hate it. It's just kinda...scary. But the world's made of light AND darkness. You can't have one without the other, 'cause darkness is half of everything. Sorta makes ya wonder why we are scared of the dark."— Mickey upon meeting Xemnas. 3 Henne, Movies798 and Yuya Sakaki reacted to this
Penny 128 Posted May 25, 2015 I think that darkness is supposed to be scary because we do not know what is there truly. If there is a man in a mask running towards you in broad daylight, there is a better chance that you would actually be able to see and run away. If he is running in darkness, you would most likely not be able to find him and dodge his attack. Also darkness represents things that we do not know about. The universe is scary because it is dark and we do not know what is there. The darkness being associated with evil...well its probably because many bad things happen in the dark. The evil people of the world use the dark to hide themselves from everyone else. That makes people afraid of the dark because they are really afraid of the bad things that tend to happen in the absence of light. This may not answer the question but I just thought I'd add it

Yuya Sakaki 5,212 Posted May 25, 2015 Well Sora was able to control his own heartless...But that's because he unlocked his heart out of his own will. When one does that they retain their sense of self, even as a Heartless. Only Sora and Xehanort have done this.Peace!
Niko Collins 83 Posted May 25, 2015 I don't necessarily think that darkness is bad...i just think people are scared of what's on the other side of darkness. No one is fearless life they try to be, because fear is a sort of darkness and like it has been established, darkness and light coexist and one can't without the other.
