Motomu Toriyama teased World of Final Fantasy's concept in 2012

Recommended Posts

Motomu Toriyama, legendary Square Enix director & scenario writer and member of the Final Fantasy Committee teased World of Final Fantasy's concept back in 2012.

“At the moment the biggest concern we are facing is that as the series gets older the fans will increasingly be spread across an even wider demographic. The way they play the games is also changing and presents new challenges in creating a game that can appeal to, and satisfy an increasingly broad and varied audience.”

Motomu Toriyama is not involved with the project (although is likely to get a special thanks) but it's very interesting to see the concept teased in 2012.

So 3 or 4 years ago...?

Still World of Final Fantasy's concept caught my attention.

October 2012 was the interview. They would have started WoFF's development in late 2013 or early to mid 2014.

That is such a non statement that it could apply to most games.

Think that if you want, I know you don't like him.

I'm not saying it because I don't like him, I'm just saying that the statement itself is in no way referencing WoFF directly.

RPG Site: What was the concept and motivation behind the creation of World of Final Fantasy?

Chiba:  The first thing is we wanted to bring back the energy - the excitement - of the original Final Fantasy series from years ago. The second was because users are wanting more realistic graphics. Especially from XIII on, a lot of the core users are really into those more realistic visuals of the characters. That's what the main numbered series is doing, and Mr. Hashimoto was worried that new players may not be able to get into that world. That's when Mr. Hashimoto consulted with [me] that he wanted to bring new players to the franchise, and that is how they decided on a new approach, with a new visual design and graphics appeal that he's hoping will attract new players to play the game.
