MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted March 22, 2016 I can't say anything but that it's another one of Square Enix's franchises that started on the SNES. Since then, like KH, it's been on a variety of consoles, mainly because the releases were really spread out.
Isaix 924 Posted March 22, 2016 I don't know much about the series,I haven't played any of the Star Ocean games, but from what I've heard the team behind Star Ocean used to the one with the team who makes the Tales of series and they used to make Tales games(or maybe it was just the first game),but apparently some people in the team had a different vision for the Tales series and they had trouble working together so they ended up splitting up into two team, one that keeps making the Tales games and the other team started their own series:Star Ocean.both series are be somewhat similar action-RPGs from what I've heard but Star Ocean is in a sci-fi setting I believe,so if you're familiar with the Tales series the Star Ocean is kinda similar to that. Ven983 490 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) It is a series that combines elements of fantasy and science fiction. The gameplay is action oriented as you move around the field in real time and perform attacks and such. It is best known for its battle system. The stories tend to be pretty grand as they are on a universal level. If you have played a "Tales Of" game they are fairly similar. The first two titles are in 2D while the past 3 have been 3D. You can only play the first one in English via PSP, and the 2nd is on PSP and PS1, the 3rd is on PS2, the 4th is on Xbox 360 & PS3, and the 5th is on PS3 and PS4. You can jump in wherever you want as the stories are seperate, but you will enjoy them more if you play the rest. Chronologically it goes: Last Hope (4th), First Departure (1st), Second Evolution (2nd), Integrity and Faithlessness (5th), and Till The End of Time (3rd). This should be all the basic info you need. The 13th Kenpachi 4,279 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) It's a JRPG set in space, imagine a action RPG, japanese mass effect. I've only played the latest installment (the last hope) but from what I remember it was a great game. I'm definitely picking up Star Ocean 5 this summer. Kaweebo 3,617 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) I've only played The Last Hope and I barely remember anything from it. What I know from my own personal research into the series is that, like the above posters said, it's a sci-fi RPG series that's (usually) set in an anthology format, kind of like FF. Most games, save one, are completely separate from the other and focus on new characters. And yeah, there's an amount of dialogue choices and even a relationship system in I believe every game since the second one, so it's kind of like a JRPG Mass Effect. Also, the timeline of the games is kind of confusing. The first three games are set two years apart from each other, then the fourth game takes place 400 years into the future, then the fifth game is a prequel to everything and now the newest game takes place between between the second and fourth one at some point. KH4Real 749 Posted March 22, 2016 I have also only played the Last Hope. It goes about soldiers travelling worlds through space and trying to save the universe. That was atleast what SO4 was about.
