A Theory About The Master Of Masters...

Recommended Posts

Nice theory!  The Master of Masters sounds younger than I expected him to be and even acts younger in the way we see him move in the trailer.  So, maybe he already possessed a younger body.  As to who he could have possessed, I personally think that it is possible that the Master of Masters possessed his 6th apprentice.

Assuming that it is true that the Master of Masters disappeared, I don't think the Foretellers would know that the man in the black coat is him.  So, since the Foretellers obviously trust the man in the black coat, they must think that the man in the black coat is someone else that they know, other than the Master of Masters.  And, since the only other person that they know enough to meet with and discuss the Book of Prophecies with is the 6th apprentice (that we know of), I assume that the Master of Masters must be possessing his 6th apprentice's body.

This could explain why the Master of Masters didn't give his 6th apprentice a copy of the Book of Prophecies, because he was planning on possessing him.

It makes snse and it seems plausible but from the way it's depicted, it seems like the things Xehanort does (manipulating hearts, removing them, altering them etc) seem to be forbidden abilities, as in powers that Keyblade Masters have, but are never to use under any circumstances. And I don't think he told Xehanort about the Keyblade War because that knowledge is also forbidden, according to Eraqus ("Xehanort, there is a reason the precepts bar us from such knowledge!") It kida seems more to me like Xehanort was a disobediant student, going places he shouldn't, seeking knowledge best left forgotten, not wearing his armor etc. And according to the Xehanort reports, it was Eraqus their Master cose to succeed him, meaning that if he was going to give anyone his keyblade, it would be Eraqus. I think Xehanort probably stole it. So it's possible that the Master of Master was their Master, but I think it's more likely that it was Eraqus, not Xehanort who was his favored pupil. But personally, I think it was Yen Sid who tought them. He knew about Xehanorts disobediance, ("Xehanort,I had hoped your heart would no longer lead you astray.") though it's possuble that was because they where students together like you said, but by the time of BbS, Yen Sid is retired ("As you know, he is Master no more but he still keps watch on the tides of light and darkness.) and has been for a while ("Not Master. I doffed that mantle long ago."), while Xehanort and Eraqus are stil active Masters, so I think he was from the previous generation of Masters. This also means that he would have been alive at the time of the Keyblade War (if that 100 years thing wasn't actually a misprint) Putting those things together the logical concusions (to me) is that Yen Sid was their Master and retired when he made them Masters.

Hey there everyone, how's it going!?  So then, with the advent of the recent flow of Kingdom Hearts news we got, one of the things mentioned was that the black hooded man from X Back Cover, the supposed 6th Apprentice, is actually the Master Of Masters himself! Apparently it had been confirmed a while ago, but I didn't know until now!  And when Nomura confirmed this, I was flabbergasted!  I was like: "But wait, if he's the Master Of Masters, then who the hell is the 6th Apprentice!?  Wait, is there even a 6th Apprentice at all!?"

But yeah, with this information confirmed, we can discard any thoughts of the black coat having been some version of Xehanort or Xigbar or whatnot! (Because honestly, it wouldn't make sense, since the events of X are way before everything else in the Xehanort Saga, so Xehanort couldn't have been around yet!)

But anyways, on to my theory!  I think that the Master Of Masters is actually the person that ended up being Eraqus and Xehanort's Master! You may ask yourself: "Well, X takes place thousands of years before, so how would the Master Of Masters be alive all that time?" Well, I thought about that too, but then, it came to me!  He's probably survived all of this time by transplanting his heart into another vessel from time to time!

In his reports, Xehanort mentioned that Keyblade Masters have the special ability of being able to transplant their hearts into another vessel, should such the need arise!  So, that got me thinking, with the black coat being the Master Of Masters, well, we can assume he's a Keyblade Master, am I right?  So, he probably survived the events of X by transplanting his heart into a vessel.  Then, for the rest of his life, he'd keep transferring his heart from vessel to vessel, until a point where he couldn't transfer his heart anymore, and he'd have to stay in the last body he possessed, ya know?  Which leads me to believe that he ended up in Eraqus and Xehanort's time because of this! When mentoring them, he probably noticed that Xehanort had an inquisitive mind and much ambition, and that probably made the Master Of Masters want to pass down certain knowledge from a time long past...therefore teaching Xehanort about the time of the Keyblade War, prompting Xehanort to want to go to the outside world and see things for himself!  And I think that maybe when the Master Of Masters finally got ill and was dying, he passed down his Keyblade, which could be the ram Keyblade Xehanort currently has, therefore making Xehanort the successor to the Master Of Masters!

After he died, I'm sure Xehanort wanted to seek more answers regarding the age of Fairy Tales, and so he went on his journey to the worlds and became the person we know him to be today!

So yeah, I think the Master Of Masters was the one who gave Xehanort that ram Keyblade, and was the master of Eraqus, Xehanort and Yen Sid!  It'd be pretty cool if this was the case!

What do you all think?  Is my theory plausible? :3

(Also, apologies in advance if a topic like this already exists, but since I hadn't seen one speculating about the Master Of Masters's identity, I wanted to make this topic, ya know?  Hope you enjoyed the read!)

I agree 100% with this, but instead of the Master of Masters it could also be Ephemera or Foreteller number 6.

Good theory, I believe too that the MoM ended up possessing the 6th Foreteller, it is implied by Xehanort Keyblade (which has a goat-lion hybrid on it, not a goat/ram)

however if it's true the MoM survived for many years transferring his heart in young vessels I think it is not because he lost this power that he didn't possess Xehanort.

I think he tried to possess him making Xehanort come closer to darkness, but in the end he became too strong so when the MoM tried to possess him he managed to escape and killed his master and "inherited" his Keyblade

I love this theory. But then that begs the question, how do you maintain Master Xehanort as the main antagonist if the Master of Master is the original evil figure. Anyway, I have a feeling that the Master of Master transferred his heart to the Sixth Apprentice. This is probably the reason as to why Xehanort is able to transfer hearts.

Well the thing is, we don't know which deadly sin the MoM is.

He could be Luxaria which would make his keyblade the "goat" keyblade or he could be Superbia which means he would have a lion keyblade.

The only other thing that would make sense is if the Master of Masters if the theory holds true is if he possesed Xehanort. I mean how do you think the Organization 13 black coats appeared.

I may be off on this but as mentioned above Yen Sid knew about Eraqus and Xehanort from apprenticehood. The MoM couldn't be their Master. The trailer for KH3 shows Xehanort's eyes being different.

But we can say which deadly sin Sora and Xehanort may represent?

Sora -> Lion (pride) -> Lucifer who falls from heaven (DDD)

Xehanort -> Goat / Chimera (lust for knowledge) -> Asmodeus (resembles a chimera)

This leads us to the question who the MoM and the 6th apprentice are. Since the MoM behaves a little bit suspicious, he must be the one with the goat keyblade and ultimately the origin of Xehanorts goals.

But I highly doubt that the MoM transfered his heart into other vessels to survive. He just died alongside the other keyblade wielders during the battle. When a keyblade wielder dies, his keyblade doesn't dissapear and remain on the same place. We clearly see the goat keyblade without a wielder in the KH3 trailer and it was not in Xehanort's possession and obviously didn't belong to the master of Xehanort and Eraqus. This means that the previous wielder died.

The master of Eraqus and Xehanort must be... Skuld (her name means "future" which makes her the link between the past and the present). She is one of the dandelions who survives. After the Keyblade War it is a possibility that she returns to Daybreak Town aka Keyblade Graveyard and finds the goat keyblade. While she was in the Realm of Sleep, many time has passed since the war happened and it would explain why she is still alive by the time Xehanort and Eraqus live. Of course she never experienced the Keyblade War for herself and she told Eraqus (because he resembles Ephemera) everything she knows about the "ancient keyblade war" and the "lost masters", which made Xehanort curious. By the way, how cool is it to have a female keyblade wielder as a master?

The 6th apprentice must be Ephemera, who is curious about the book the MoM didn't give him. Which makes sense because he makes me think of Sora and it isn't a coincidence that Nomura drew both almost similar. Both weren't chosen and both follow their heart in freedom. If we consider that we don't necessarily need to play Unchained X or Back Cover to understand KH3, this would mean that the whole story around the conflict of the foretellers delivers just a legitimate reason for Sora to fight against Xehanort, since they have nothing to do with each other but are destined to fight because of their past incarnations (Ephemera and MoM).

A keyblade can stay around without the wielder being dead, Yin Sid's, Aqua's, and technically Terra's keyblade are still around but they are still alive and Kairi's was around before she got it. Going back to Yin Sid, he retired from being a master but still had his keyblade and passed it down to Mickey, Young Xehanort states that that is his destiny, to have Xehanort's keyblade handed down to him. So MoM or the 6th apprentice would have to still be around to pass the keyblade down to him. The master of Eraqus and Xehanort could be any one of the four: MoM, 6th apprentice, Skuld, or Ephemera if they are unchained. Plus, if Ephemera was the 6th apprentice then he would have the robes that the others do and have an animal somewhere on him. Also, Skuld wouldn't be the first female keyblade master, Aqua is, but even if we go in time line order she still wouldn't be because no one has made her a master.

Not necessarily. Eraqus didn't pass his keyblade to Aqua but she is still wielding it.

There is no reason for Ephemera to wear a robe because he has no union and everyone, especially the MoM, would recognize him as the 6th apprentice. So he tries to discover the true intentions of the MoM by not being identified as his apprentice. The animal symbol is surely on his keyblade which he also tries to hide.

True, but she was named master by him so maybe that's a thing that can happen, Nomura hasn't really gone in depth with the whole master thing. I think they had the robes before that, but still if Ephemera was the 6th then Ava would recognize his voice. Ephemera already has a keyblade and he can't have two.

Hmm, that's interesting food for thought!  That could be a very nice twist!  Of course there'd be no need to hand down a Tome Of Prophecy to the 6th Apprentice, when he's actually residing in the 6th Apprentice!  I like where your head is at! :D

It makes snse and it seems plausible but from the way it's depicted, it seems like the things Xehanort does (manipulating hearts, removing them, altering them etc) seem to be forbidden abilities, as in powers that Keyblade Masters have, but are never to use under any circumstances. Hmm, this is most interesting!  And true, while such things may be forbidden, I think that if the Master Of Masters caused the Foretellers to go into disarray, I seriously doubt he would have any regards in terms of forbidden things, since he seems like the kind of guy that does as he pleases, ya know?  So that's quite the mystery to his enigmatic persona!  I think he probably wrapped Xehanort's head with thoughts about finding out the truth, prompting Xehanort to go out into the worlds and research, ya know?

Also, I like what you said about Yen Sid possibly having mentored Eraqus and Xehanort!  It doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility! :)

I agree 100% with this, but instead of the Master of Masters it could also be Ephemera or Foreteller number 6.

It also could be true!  Who knows? :O

Good theory, I believe too that the MoM ended up possessing the 6th Foreteller, it is implied by Xehanort Keyblade (which has a goat-lion hybrid on it, not a goat/ram)

Ooh, I like this idea!  Xehanort is an unpredictable man, so he could have just as easily killed the Master Of Masters and "inherited" his Keyblade!  Ooh, that'd be devious! :O

Thanks, I'm glad you found the theory to your liking! :D  And well, that is an interesting question!  I'm sure that Xehanort will remain the overall focus on Kingdom Hearts III.  Remember, Emperor Palpatine might have manipulated things behind the scenes, but Darth Vader was at the forefront in Star Wars, ya know? I think that could be applied to Xehanort as well!  The saga is about Xehanort, just as Star Wars is about Anakin! :3

But yes, if he did transfer his hear to the 6th Apprentice and survived to mentor Eraqus and Xehanort, he probably taught Xehanort how to transfer a hear to another vessel in detail, ya know? :O

Well the thing is, we don't know which deadly sin the MoM is.

Luxaria has a nice ring to it!  Yeah, I think the Master Of Masters could have a name like that! :D

But, given that he has the title of Master Of Masters, then maybe Superbia would be more fitting?  Hmm, I don't know! :O

Ooh, this is good! I especially loved how you matched up Sora with Pride and Xehanort with Lust!  Most interesting indeed! :O

And you totally blew me away with what you said about Skuld!  That could be another legitimate fact to be presented!  I would find it undeniably badass if Skuld were the one who mentored Eraqus, Xehanort and Yen Sid!  That's some great thinking on your part! :D

A keyblade can stay around without the wielder being dead, Yin Sid's, Aqua's, and technically Terra's keyblade are still around but they are still alive and Kairi's was around before she got it. Hmm, all valid points you point out there as well!  Gahh, I love all this speculation on who Eraqus, Xehanort and Yen Sid's master is! :3

Not necessarily. Eraqus didn't pass his keyblade to Aqua but she is still wielding it.

There is no reason for Ephemera to wear a robe because he has no union and everyone, especially the MoM, would recognize him as the 6th apprentice. Well, we'll find out the answers to our burning questions when 2.8 and eventually III come out!

Wow, this was great fun!  I really liked all of your posts, as they added depth to this already awesome topic!  I thank you all for your insightful responses!  Whatever the case may be regarding the Master Of Masters's secrets, we'll all find out soon enough!  I'm so hyped! :D
