Firaga got a reaction from 777Mormoopid in Donald Almost Ruined The SDG Dynamic
Yes, that's exactly what this thread is about because apparently, people read too fast and got confused by the first title.

But let's move on from that onto the topic at hand:

Let's watch this scene from KH1, specifically, the segment between 2:01 and 2:08.

Here in this instance, after our protagonist Sora finally finds his friend Riku (who at this point is just sort of ambiguous as to whether he's good or not), part of the very reason he decided to team up with Donald and Goofy in the first place, and when he asks Donald to invite him along, he straight up tells him no and shows no care whatsoever for Sora's wishes.

Now yes, Donald did in fact lie when he told Sora that he and Goofy would help look for Riku and Kairi, but up until now, Sora didn't know that and was under the impression that they were "all for one and one for all", but for some idiot reason, Captain Featherbrains over here decides to drop all pretenses and basically tell Sora "I don't care about what you or your friend want, it's what I, Goofy, and my King want that matters. My way or the high way, twerp". Again, "all for one and one for all"? Bull-freaking-shit.

And in all seriousness, I would expect Riku to actually be easily influenced by Maleficent to turn on Sora after this because not only does Riku feel jealousy that Sora has found replacements for him and Kairi, but he's got a good reason to think that his replacements also treat Sora and his ambitions like shit only for him to still go along with them for their own personal gain. I mean, Riku was literally in perfect earshot of what Donald said (unless he had already left by that point, but I'd like to imagine he didn't).

Look, I'm not trying to take the piss out of the SDG dynamic, I do believe that they become good friends later on, especially with Donald's and Goofy's segments during the first trip to Hollow Bastion. I just find this scene to be really off-putting towards the whole "SDG are becoming good friends as they travel together" thing considering at this point the game, the player would have sealed Deep Jungle and already had gone through the mini "Sora and Donald can't get along" arc that it contained just to see Donald cross another line and revert back to the same idealogy that started that conflict in the first place, except this time it was never resolved and Donald got away with being a dick to Sora in this instance without being reprimanded.

In fact, It would have made much more sense if Deep Jungle was available after this sequence because then at least there's plausible grounds to address the Sora-Donald conflict with a little more meat layered on top of it. Instead of just arguing about where to land, it could have been Sora getting rightfully pissed at Donald for once again putting his own desires over his own, Donald having to learn that they can all work together to find who they're looking for, and it'd make their entire dynamic even stronger as a result.

Again, it's not that big a deal, but it still bugs the shit out of me. I just figured I'd share this to see if I have a point or I'm overthinking this more than I should.

Firaga got a reaction from Thomasnab in REVIEW: "Tekken: The Motion Picture"
Oh boy, another review! It's been so long since I've had the drive to do one of these. Well, except Donkey Kong Country of course because I obviously meant every word of that. For realsies.

Anyways: I'm a huge fan of Tekken, if I haven't made that clear before, and I'm all abuzz with anticipation now that Tekken 7 is coming out soon. Still working on getting that PS4 though. Because of that, I went back across Tekken content gone past and I decided to check out this little gem right here. I hadn't seen it beforehand and had only heard about it in passing and saw images of it online, so I was fairly optimistic... boy, was that wasted effort. Much like this movie as well.

I honestly don't know what I was thinking at the time. Much like other video game series, adapting Tekken from the consoles to the big screen has always resulted in mixed results. A total of four films have been released, and I had already seen two others beforehand, the first being the 2009 live action film and the 2011 "Blood Vengeance" tie-in to the second Tag game, and both were pretty much stinkers too (although the latter is still probably the best of the bunch by not by much). The only film that I haven't seen being the sequel to that live action one, but uh, not breaking my neck over seeing that.

Back to this film: this was released in 1997 right before the release of Tekken 3 in order to promote the game, and possibly to cash in the success of the Street Fighter II movie released earlier under the simple name "TEKKEN" (later "Tekken: The Motion Picture for its English dub release by ADV and spoiler warning, the dub is cheesy and lame so I'm not going to go into detail about it. Imagine that, a 90s anime english dub being bad, what are the odds). It adapts the main story of the first game, but also shoves in a bunch of elements from the second game haphazardly.

For those who don't know, the basic story of the first Tekken game centers around the King of Iron Fist Tournament sponsored by the Mishima Zaibatsu where fighters compete in matches for a chance to defeat the Zaibatsu's leader Heihachi Mishima and earn a large sum of prize money. One of these fighters is Heihachi's son Kazuya who aims to take revenge on Heihachi for throwing him off a cliff at the age of give in order to test his strength. Sounds like it has potential to be a kickass thrill ride, right? Well sorry, but you get this instead.

    Okay, without further ado: FIGHT!

Firaga got a reaction from Cyber Shaman in I'm Trying To Be Better
As I've said numerous other times before, I don't really go to this side of the forums because I'm not really one to really open up about my personal life or anything like that. Still, I've been a little frustrated with some things in my life recently so I just kind of wanted to get some things out. Forgive me if this sounds rambly, it's very late and I'm very tired, but I just really need to get this out.

I just want to say that if you're someone who feels like I'm a bit of a nuisance or I've just cause some kind of altercation with you or other people in the past... I'm sorry. I really am. I don't think I've really had the best reputation around here if I'm perfectly honest. I mean sure, I try and paint myself as the funny guy who makes lame jokes and does role-plays and writes really random crap and stuff, you know, someone when everybody knows and enjoys being around with. But more I look back at the stupid things I've done and the arguments I've had and the many people I feel like I have hurt... the more I realize that I'm just not very good person to be around.

I come off as someone who wants to feel superior to everybody, no matter what it is, and well cause any amount of fuss or agitation just to get my way.

I really do try to be good. I'm at a point in my life where I don't have much of an excuse either. I'm freaking 21. I have to be better than this. Hell, I NEED to be better than this... but I'm just not.

No matter how hard I try I make the same mistakes, I hurt the same people, and the cycle just keeps continuing until those people get sick of me and leave my stupid ass for good.

That's NOT who I want to be. I want to be the guy who people can be with a feel like they don't have ANY problems. Kind of person that people can feel safe and comfortable with.

But maybe I'm just not comfortable with my own self. Maybe despite everything I've experienced and actually learned from in life, I'm still at a point where I just can't bring myself to be happy with who I am and thus, I can't help but bring other people down too...

I'm not saying I have depression. I don't have the need to kill myself or feel worthless or anything like that. I do think there's some good in me and I do think I am worthwhile as a person. But at the same time, I acknowledge that I have flaws and so does everybody else... but when you step back and realize that a certain flaw of yourself has caused you more sadness and frustration then it's warranted, maybe it's time to change.

But I can't. I CAN'T freaking change. It's because of me at that an argument starts, continues, and ends. It's because of me that I get asked to not the around certain areas are talk to certain people. I'm ALWAYS the one at fault... and I only realized after it's done that I shouldn't have been the bad guy. I had a chance to walk away to be a better person, and yet, I chose not to. I'm a goddamn idiot who is utterly baffled that I even HAVE friends anymore...

Even then, how long am I going to have those friends until they leave me too. When does get to a point where I am just completely alone with only myself to blame?

Again, I'm not depressed. I'm just angry with myself. I'm angry that I have to make other people angry. Thank you only stop myself from being angry after the damage is already done.

I really am trying to be better, every single step of the way... but as all the affirmation ranting above showed, I don't think I'm doing a very good job.

Maybe some of you agree or disagree. I really do feel like I've met so many amazing people just on these forums alone and yet I've caused you so much grief that some you don't even want to talk to me anymore... I dunno. I just figured that getting all these emotions out would be better than just leaving them bottled in...

But just to reiterate: I really am sorry for everything I've done. I am very, truly, honestly sorry. I just want to be better. I really do.

Firaga got a reaction from DarylTrect in New "Boruto" Manga and One-Shot Confirmed
    Article

The "Next Generation" Naruto countdown issued by WSJ is now closed, and the project behind it is now confirmed: a brand, new full length "Boruto" manga, written by Ukyo Kodachi, who wrote Gaara Hiden and worked on the screenplay for Boruto The Movie, and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto, an assistant to Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto on the original Naruto manga. Kishimoto himself will also be making a new Boruto one-shot that will most likely tie into this brand new series.

The above image coupled with the announcement graphic is presumably artwork done by Ikemoto himself and might be a preview of what to expect from the new manga. Not too much in terms of significance is shown other than some new or altered character designs. However, there are some new elements such as the return of Team Shinki, a genin team from Sand Village featured in Boruto The Movie, as well as a new unknown character located on the far right.

I, for one, was expecting a new manga rather than something like a new anime or film, so I'm not too surprised by this. I wasn't counting on a new one-shot, though.

Firaga got a reaction from Gregorylepe in "Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale"
Aniplex of America uploaded this to their YouTube channel not too long ago, confirming that there will be an upcoming anime film for Sword Art Online sometime in the future:

As it stands, the only information present for this film is, as the trailer says, that it will have a brand-new, original story written by the creator of SAO himself, Reki Kawihara.

Given this description, I believe it may cover either events left out of the anime adaption or possibly legitimate brand new material created by the author around the same instances as either of the first two anime. I find that the most likely scenario might be coverage of the recent SAO spin-off "Progressive".

^ Following the post I made about DLC, funnily enough:
In this article, ShonenGameZ.com translated a scan featuring details about DLC are now available in the form of three DLC packs, estimated to be sold in US dollars for about 5 to 6 dollars each.

The first two packs labeled as "Another Scenario" 1 and 2 will feature possible bonus material for the story mode as well as a single bonus costume each and the last pack will have four playable characters. All three packs will include additonal content such as team Ougis, ninja info cards, transferable item sets, "match making voices", and more costumes. Some of the costumes included in the packs will be from previous Storm games.

Firaga got a reaction from Gregorylepe in New "Blue Exorcist" Anime In 2017

Blue Exorcist, or Ao No Exorcist, is getting a new anime season in 2017. According to the info, the season will adapt the "Impure King" arc from the show's source material, that being the BE/ANE manga.

I would first like to clarify that I am person who is a fan of the Blue Exorcist series, more so the manga than the anime, and has been very vocal about his displeasure for how the first Blue Exorcist anime turned out due to being cut off from the source material about halfway through and instead focusing on original content.

With that said: I've read that like other shows like the new seasons of Black Butler i.e. Kuroshitsuji that the studio may simply ignore their original content in favor of simply sticking to the manga's content since they no longer have the excuse of the manga not having enough content to adapt, which still raises a bunch of questions when thinking about how their content will mesh with the continued source material at the time the Impure King arc starts but... eh. I can live with it.

Overall, I would still prefer an complete remake of the show in order to properly adapt the source material from its beginning and so on, but I guess this is still a step in the right direction. If more interest goes into the BE/ANE property, there might be more seasons that adapt the manga and maybe even interest for said remake.

Firaga got a reaction from DarylTrect in "The Mummy" 1st Trailer
Straight from Brazilian Comic Con alongside the new Guardians 2 trailer is the newest reboot to Universal's Mummy franchise:

This isn't just a Mummy reboot by the way. This is also the first planned movie by Universal to create their own shared cinematic universe. That's right, mere weeks after I posted about the Skull Island trailer, we now have Universal throwing their hats into the shared film franchise game.

They apparently have plans to tackle all of their classic movie monsters and already have actors lined up to play some of them: Frankenstein's Monster (played by Javier Bardem), Bride of Frankenstein, Count Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (Jekyll, who is also in this film, played by Russel Crow), Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Invisible Man (played by Johnny Depp), and of course, The Mummy.

First off: Tom Cruise is in this. That's a good sign. That doesn't automatically mean the movie will be good but it at least guarantees that Cruise will be good in it because he's pretty good in mostly everything he is. Also, we have Sophia Boutella as the titular Mummy, who previously played Gazelle in Kingsman. In that movie, she had blades for legs, and here, she's the titular ancient, four-eyed, sexy hellbringer of death... I have the weirdest boner right now.

Ahem, anyway: I don't know much about The Mummy or any of the other dozens of Mummy films, so I can't comment that much further on the trailer, but I am really glad that Universal is giving the classic movie monsters a second life by giving them a shared movie universe. Nowadays, these types of monsters are mostly kiddie fodder and are treated more as jokes rather than serious horror icons. They still are icons in their own right of course, but you have to remember the last time that the Mummy had a movie in the 50s i.e. the same era it originally debuted was a comedy movie where it chased Abbot and Costello... yeeeeah... and let's not even delve in the cheesy 90s film with Brendan Fraser. All I'm saying is that giving them a second more dark and serious iteration isn't going to hurt.

I never saw much of the original cartoon, I was more of a Darkwing Duck fan (if I haven't made that clear in the past), but this version looks pretty fun, especially since the big Donald himself is actually in it, something I never really understood about the original.

David Tennant seems to be settling into his Scrooge role pretty well and hopefully he'll do right by the late Alan Young.

Firaga got a reaction from Roberttwal in Game Tweaks: Improved Party Member Management
A loooooooong time ago, I did a thread where I explained an idea I had about tweaking the normal formula we see in the Kingdom Hearts games so that they can be improved in Kingdom Hearts III. In that thread, I talked about words being better populated with NPCs. Now I'm going to talk about another tweak that involves more characters on screen.

Now in the main Kingdom Hearts games, specifically KH and KHII, its set up where we have our main playable character and two AI companions that all make up a party. The companions could be switched around when certain worlds gave us more options, and in some cases in the story, we were given an assistant character to provide a level playing field considering at those times they were added when enemy AI and quantity of enemies went up.

However, here's the thing: It's always bugged me in that a) whenever you switch out a party member, you have to leave a previously placed party member get thrown to the wayside and b) Assistants don't actually become a true part of your party. I mean, don't get me wrong, changing the original party of Sora, Donald, and Goofy and switching out for people like Aladdin, Jack Skellington, or Mulan is beneficial for some people, but in the end, you have to realize that these characters are only around for a certain amount of time, and pre-planning them with your normal party is kind of pointless. Guest characters shouldn't really affect the flow of party management anyway, because like I said, they're only around for a certain amount of time. if anything, their role should only matter if the world you're in has an abundance of enemies or if there are certain properties of the settings and enemies that need to be dealt with because of the guest member in your party (like say dealing with hoards of enemies in the many close spaces of Agrabah with Aladdin's saber techniques or high level enemies with weak resistance to magic in Halloween Town using Jack Skellington). And as for the assistant dilemma, they should be eliminated altogether, or at least be given more control and management in the long run. As they are now, they're pretty much just extra AI to throw on screen to add some more expansion onto certain plot points. Oh yeah, and the assistants that don't fight and are basically there so you have to spend your time and energy keeping their HP from going down? GTFO! (Not counting Queen Minnie of course; however, it would be cool to have had her as a party member post the finding the entrance to the Disney Castle's secret room part of Kingdom Hearts II.)

So yeah, that's it in a nutshell. Tell me what you think.

Firaga got a reaction from logansinc in Plot Is Overrated
It is once again "Late Night Thread" time, and right now... well, uh, this is just gonna be another one of those things where I just ramble about something. Hopefully in a coherent manner. I don't really make threads like this that often anymore and I felt like getting something off my chest, so uh, yeah, here I go:

So, people who know me best know that I watch cartoons, and I have in fact been watching them since I was young. Hell, I made a status not too long ago about watching Baby Looney Tunes. I am nineteen freaking years old. And yet, I saw it when I was in elementary school, well above the age where you're actually "allowed" to watch it and continue to willfully watch re-runs of it today. And I'm proud of that.

That being said, I also dabble in today's ever-growing pool of modern cartoons, and just like most media consumed by people my age, it tends to be bashed a lot just based on principle ... I don't care about this either, but still take off the rose-tinted glasses people, yeesh.

The point I am trying to make is that while I am a fan of currently running cartoons like Adventure Time and Steven Universe, there is a mentality that I feel is present in those who legitimately enjoy these shows as well as those people I mentioned who someone "converted", a mentality that I highly disagree with.

Basically, it's that the reason these shows are actually considered good is because they have "plot", and by that I mean they all have overarching story arcs with things like callbacks to previous events/actions, backstories, character development based off those two things, and basically any type of world-building that leads fans to make up a bunch of fan theories. Kinda of like anime.

Now, is this a bad thing? Nope. Not at all. In fact, it's great that this type of media that is so wrongfully accused of being "just for kids" has an element to it that allows it to draw in fans of older and maybe even beyond... but that's not to say it's the only redeemable quality to these shows, right? Of course not.

Let me give you an example. I've made it clear that I'm a fan of The Amazing World Of Gumball. It's a episodic comedy centering around a blue cat, his family, and the denizens of his hometown Elmore that consists mostly of slice-of-life happenings and shenanigans. Why do I like it, you ask? Even though it sounds like something not unlike the shows that I described earlier?

My reasons are simple: 1) It's funny, both in terms of general silly humor and even dark comedy; 2) it's entertaining if not funny due to having good animation and fairly decent action/drama scenes when it wants to; 3) It has an unique art style that blends different forms of animation into one setting that fits very well; 3) the characters are good despite not having direct arcs for themselves; 4) it has good enough messages that you can take from it despite being a "silly" cartoon; 5) it playfully mocks animation tropes, writing tropes, and other subject matter; 6) it's gets more clever with each new episode; 7) even when it's mean-spirited, it can still be funny. I could go on but I'll stop right there. You get the point.

None of these reasons are (mostly) similar to why I love shows like Adventure Time or Steven Universe. They are more in-line with other shows I like such as Regular Show and Sonic Boom. But that's okay. It's okay not to have a complex plot like most anime have. It's okay not to have "deep" characterization carried over a span of story arcs. It's okay that if doesn't want to make you write up a theory about if the main character is really a duck from the Planet Jupiter. It's all okay.

In Gumball, there is no bigger meaning or bigger plot, but there are a few nods to previous episodes and storylines picked up from previous episodes. The characters aren't given personal arcs or grow along with the story of lack-there0of, but they able to learn and adapt if given the time to do so, and that includes Gumball himself. There isn't a deep lore made up of backstories of previous events or characters with time spent on building the world that the show takes place in for the same purposes, but as the title says, it certainly is an "amazing world", as in a world that clearly shows that it is a world filled with characters and places and interesting things, and all of that done without exposition dumps.

The bottom line: cartoons, or anything in general really, are good because it is what it wants to be and what that is has quality. Cartoons of the past, the cartoons my generation and I love such as Courage The Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Spongebob (the good seasons), Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life, and even going back further to stuff like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo, and the Looney Tunes, aren't all held in high regard because they all serve a deeper purpose other than to just entertain somebody for eleven minutes. Some did have bigger intentions, but not all, and even then, they had qualities beside that which helped serve to make them as popular and well-regarded as they are now. They were simply all good cartoons.

And it's possible to find that same level of quality in today's cartoons. It doesn't even have to do with the fact that they are made in today's age because like I said earlier, and I mean it this time: take off the rose-colored glasses. Just because something is new and wasn't part of your childhood doesn't make it automatically horrible. In fact, if you look back and really think about it, not everything about your childhood is awesome. You might even realize that it's as bad or even worse than the stuff you have today. Let me remind you that there is crap in every era of time. The 90s had it, the 80s had it, the 70s definitely had it, and so on. For every good cartoon comes a bad one. Plain and simple. This even applies to today, but honestly, it's very easy to find more examples of good than bad, and if you look back on those previous eras, you might agree with me.

I know I sort of got off topic and turn this into a rant about nostalgia but my original point still stands.
