Davulch got a reaction from catmaster0116 in What did you think of the PlayStation Meeting yesterday?
It was a hardware event, not a software event. Basically, the PS4 Slim was announced for $299 (which launches in about a week), but the real story was the PS4, which costs $399 and has a release date of November 10th. It's main selling points are increasing GPU and CPU, as well as compatibility with 4K TVs. In short, it was the rumored PS4 Neo/ PS4K. The conference generally was not received well, as many thought it was boring, but a lot of the criticism was over the fact that the PS4 Pro will not be compatible with 4K Blu-Ray Disks (not a big deal, as most content is now going digital these days). Of course, Microsoft and PC fanboys took the opportunity to bash Sony over just about everything they could (typical). My thoughts? Good info, but the presentation could have gone better. There were a few games that were shown, mainly to show off the power of the PS4 Pro, including Final Fantasy XV. I hope that answered your question.

Davulch reacted to Soravids in soravid's Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Review
    ABOUT THE GAME:

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is the fifth main game in the Star Ocean series, and was release in 2016 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan, and as a PlayStation 4 exclusive outside of Japan. The game was primarily developed for PlayStation 3, and ported to PlayStation 4.

    REVIEW:

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness takes place between Star Ocean: The Second Story and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. The eight main characters are Fidel Camuze, Miki Sauvester, Victor Oakville, Fiore Brunelli, Emmerson T. Kenny, Anne, and Relia. All of which are playable in battle with the exception of Relia. The game starts out on planet Faykreed, which is 6000 light years from Earth.

I had been playing this game since release, and finished the main story yesterday. My main story playthrough clocked at just over 25 hours without rushing. The game seems to have about 70 hours of playtime for completionists like myself!

I can say this game does a lot right, and a few things wrong. The game definitely embodies the old-school feel that's been a staple to the Star Ocean series. If you get a game over, you get booted back to the main menu, and you have to continue from your last save point. That's right, no retry, no autosave, no continue. Just Game Over like the olden days. The items are the same as always too. Blueberries, blackberries, fresh sage, etc. The Characters are no exception either. No matter how you look at any of them (anime eyes, unnatural hair colors), it's very obvious they are from a Star Ocean game.

    How's the gameplay?

Combat is definitely this game's strong point. Each character has different abilities and can be useful in certain situations. The two characters I used most were Fidel because he is one of the strongest out of the bunch and has great battle skills, and Miki because she is useful for long-distance combat and has extremely useful healing commands. None of them are the best one for the job 100% of the time. Different battles will urge you to use different characters.

Players get to assign attacks (Battle Skills) to the X and Circle buttons. Battle Skills set to the Circle button will receive an extra boost of power. Simply tapping X or Circle will trigger a normal attack, but holding down on X or Circle for a short time will trigger Battle Skills. You can also change which attack is set on each button at any time, even during battle. I really loved this system. It's very action packed and allows you to beat down those bosses your own way. Frame rate never drops regardless of the attack you are using. The game is quite balanced. I played on Galaxy mode and found that game wasn't extremely hard, but not boringly easy either. It's just right!

Players get another secret weapon in battle, it's called the Rush Gauge. The Rush Gauge holds up to five points, and can trigger a special attack from each character except for Relia. Players can choose how many points they wish to expend for each attack, and the more points you expend, the more powerful your attack will be. This is useful for tough bosses with lots of HP. I found myself storing up three or four Rush Gauge bars before entering those tougher battles. You can lose Rush Gauge points after being hit by certain attacks.

Outside of combat players can only control Fidel, except for one short instance where players control Relia. Exploration can at times be tedious. The game will sometimes leave you with no clear objective, leaving you to figure what to do next. Thankfully, it's usually very easy to figure it out. For the majority of the game there will be no means of fast travel. You'll be left to explore the entire map on foot until you acquire access to the Charles D. Goale later in the game. I didn't mind this much, as it helped give me more incentive to fight monsters along the way and level up my characters more.

    Well, what about the story?

While the story does have great potential, it feels very hollow. Cutscenes focus heavily on being interactive and happening live. This is a poorly executed, but potentially great ideal. The cutscenes happening during gameplay allow players to move Fidel, or open their menu and change equipment, battle skills, or anything else during cutscenes. The cost of this was the loss of a deep story. Sure there was plenty of story presence there, but the lack of overall cinematic scenes made it much less impacting. However, the extremely important cutscenes are shown in a cinematic way. These are rare throughout the game, but are carried out decently unlike the majority of in-gameplay cutscenes.

Despite the hollow feel to it all, the story is still a pretty interesting one to follow. I found myself feeling anxious wondering what would happen next multiple times throughout the story. I found the ending to be a little lackluster, sadly. I won't say much more because I do not wish to spoil, but Star Ocean: The Last Hope definitely had a better ending. The characters, although interesting never really get much of a chance in the spotlight. They are right for the game, but we never really get to know them. A follow up anime or game could do them justice if it was carried out correctly.

I was disappointed by the lack of space. Star Ocean is supposed to be very focused on outer space exploration. This game doesn't see any space travel until much later in the story. Once it's happens, it's there for the rest of the game, but it doesn't happen until quite late in the game except for the first instance.

    Hmmm, and the music?

The game contains a decent soundtrack, however I noticed some of it was reused from Star Ocean: The Last Hope. The game (like all Star Ocean games) uses a lot of synth instruments. In the end, even though it's good, it's not extremely special or anything.

Okay then, what about the graphics?

The graphics are heavily anime focused, especially in the eight main characters. The environments are the most beautiful the Star Ocean series has seen thus far. Many monsters that we have seen in past games make a return and look better than ever. The water in the game is especially pretty.

    OVERVIEW:

    Pros:

    Great gameplay

    Beautiful graphics

    Great Characters

    High level caps

    Good Soundtrack

    Cons:

    Lack of cinematic scenes

    Not enough emphasis on characters

    Lack of Space Travel

    Lackluster ending

Overall Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a good game. It may not have the production value of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but it is definitely worth the time of any Star Ocean fan or lover of JRPG's in general.

It has been confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 2.8 will be playable at Square Enix's booth. It is unknown what parts of the game will be playable, though. I assume that there will be some footage of those demos released to the public in some form. In addition to appearances at TGS, I would probably anticipate trailers dropping at SDCC, Gamescom, and PAX Prime (since Square did, if I remember correctly, did release trailers for Kingdom Hearts 2.5 at those events).

I really do enjoy the game, but I do have a few gripes. One being that the Medals tend to make up to much of the difference in strength compared to level. Level really doesn't seem very rewarding, except that you get your AP refilled. I feel like they could have added more traditional stats to the game, rather than forcing players to rely on medals to make their way through the game, which, as you know, they can be purchased from the store. Basically, I feel like they made it a little too much into your typical micro-transaction game, where it becomes a "pay to win" to some degree. This isn't 100% the case, but, well, let's face it, you only get the better medals by purchasing them through the store, and not everyone is going to be pro at making tactical decisions to save their jewels, nor is everyone going to be a hardcore player. If they really wanted to make money, they should have made it a paid app from the begining, and made the game feel more rewarding just by playting it, and not going to the store to buy stuff with jewels. Whle I'm not one of those people who buys jewels with actual money, there will be those who will be tempted, or even feel a little bit pressured, to do so in order to keep up with their fellow party members, and feel like they're a valuable asset to their party.

Anyway, that's just my own perception, though. I, for one, am really against how much companies make mobile games rely upon micro-transactions to make more money. It's a smart move, sure, but it just takes so much away from the experience than what should have been, in my opinion. I would much rather buy a game, and get a full experience from it right from the get-go, rather than having store ads shoved in my face, and trying to work around a system that seemingly tries to force you into the shop.

When KH UX what first announced for NA, it was not announced for anywhere else other than Japan and the Americas, presumably because they were still testing the servers in other regions or testing in those regions hadn't started. However, around the time that they were releasing the game in Japan, when SE announced rating information in Australia, which presumably reflected that they had made progress on testing for servers of other regions like Oceania/Australia, that begs the question why SE originally said all regions outside of NA and Japan are to TBA with regards to release regions. And the answer is, if I remember correctly, that SE tried to localize the PC version on Chi over to the rest of the world, but there were some kind of server issues, so that is why we have KH: UX. So, it was due to the Japanese browser version's server issues when being tested for a cancelled port out to an international release that I believe that the Australian version's announcement was delayed until they were confident that server was going to be live and only Japan and NA was going to get it. Now, I believe that, yes, there's always a chance, but I believe that until there are reports to the contrary, the 2013 browser version of KH Chi will stay a Japan-exclusive title not because there isn't demand, but because of server issues.

I would have to admit that I've really enjoyed it for not having played it on the PS2 or PS3 and I have a feeling that I'm just about at the end of X. Out of curiosity, is there a difference between the standard and limited editions other than the box art?

Probably not since we didn't get any new Keyblades or bosses for the other HD remakes, so I personally don't think that DDD will be any different. Most likely. I heard that if it has a song of Utada Hikaru, then there can't be a digital version, or something along those lines. I'm not sure on that. It depends on how much progress they've made.

Davulch reacted to AirbagVII in Kingdom Hearts 2.9 - Opening Title / Main Menu Concept
After the recent leaks and all the speculation surrounding a possible release of a game called "Kingdom Hearts 2.9", I started thinking about the possibility of this game being more than just a rumor...

The title of the game itself is very similar to 1.5 and 2.5 which leaves me thinking that we might be in front of another HD Collection.

The fact that it was numbered as 2.9, seems to be an indication that the events of this title will be not only prior but also the very foundation of Kingdom Hearts 3 storyline.

As a result, I imagined this title as another "HD collection" which could include:

    - Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Final Mix (HD);
    - Kingdom hearts 3 Demo;
    - Kingdom Hearts Unchained X (I know it will be released for iOS and Android and for free in all regions, but still, the idea of reuniting all the KH games in home consoles would be awesome).

Therefore, I decided to create a Opening Title/Main Menu Concept for this possible KH game.

    Here's the final result:

Let me know what you guys think, while we all wait for a possible confirmation at Tokyo Game Show!

It's kind of 50/50 as far of chances go, but Japan D23 does seem to be more like the place for a big Kingdom Hearts reveal than TGS is. Still, odds are that we'll get something more Kingdom Hearts related than just a KH Unchained Key video or news at TGS. Either way, I'm not betting too much money in either direction at this point.
