  1. In 1997, Square planned to port FINAL FANTASY V to PC but due to communication issues between them and other companies they decided to abandon the project. With FINAL FANTASY III now available on Steam, it would seem PC is on Square Enix's list of platforms to port the original FINAL FANTASY games to. So nearly twenty years later...it would seem FINAL FANTASY V will be finally released on PC through Steam. Expect Amazon Appstore, Ouya and Windows Phone releases first though and they still have to finish FINAL FANTASY IV before they even think about V. But it should come to PC in 2015.
  2. The FINAL FANTASY Portal App is designed to deliver the latest FINAL FANTASY news, information, videos, apps and more to your iOS and Android devices. It features the popular mini-game from FINAL FANTASY VIII, Triple Triad now featuring cards from the entire series including the latest entries, FINAL FANTASY XIII & FINAL FANTASY XIV. Experience Triple Triad in HD with achievements. You can also play your friends. It's also a lot of fun. Through reading articles, watching videos and so on you collect points via your Square Enix account. With these points you can purchase digital content like wallpapers for your smartphone and cards for Triple Triad. For a limited time, you can also get FINAL FANTASY for "free", there is a ton of catches here including only English language support for one. What makes matters worse is that it is still the horrible version they sold for years. The Android version is the worst as not only doesn't it have HD support, achievements, cloud saving etc it does not include the bonus dungeons, the music player or the bestiary. The FINAL FANTASY Portal App is great but the situation with the original FINAL FANTASY remains to be a joke. 8/10
  3. The very first Final Fantasy game has been removed this morning from the Apple App Store & Google Play Store. You can still re-download it if you already own it. It is currently unclear why this has occurred but likely reasons include compatibility issues and what I'm hoping for: A big update.
  4. FINAL FANTASY: THE 4 HEROES OF LIGHT is a spin-off developed by Matrix Software and published by Square Enix for the Nintendo DS. Directed & written by Takashi Tokita, who had just come off directing & executive producing the full 3D remake of FINAL FANTASY IV with producer and fellow writer Tomoya Asano who went on to create the Bravely franchise. Additionally, music composed by Naoshi Mizuta who went on to work on FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 and LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII with character designs by Akihiko Yoshida who of course designed the main characters in FINAL FANTASY XII and FINAL FANTASY XIV. Like many other Tokita helmed Matrix Software titles, this title's concept seems to be making a SNES-era game for modern hardware. And it achieves that quite well, however without the epic story. The story is more like the NES-era, with a simple story that has it's moments such as turning into a cat but overall it's too simple for my taste. I don't want to play a 20-30 hour game with a simple story. Gameplay is pretty good, it has returned to the traditional turn-based-combat but it has to, this is a new battle system which uses "Boost" commands rather than your typical magic points. This is an interesting idea, but far too often you'll find yourself needing to "Boost" to get the "points" needed to heal your character, problem is you'll probably die if you do. A better idea would have been to make you guard while boosting. You also have very limited room in your inventory. Exploring dungeons is as per usual straight forward, nothing too complicated here. Saving requires you to meet a man who pops up now and then with his dog or is it a fox? He'll ask you to save, and of course you will. The Job System also returns, however it's nothing on the level of FINAL FANTASY X-2's Job System. Art direction is pretty good, but nothing to get excited over. Music is exactly what it should be, SNES-style. FINAL FANTASY: THE 4 HEROES OF LIGHT is the team that remade FINAL FANTASY III and FINAL FANTASY IV trying to make their very own SNES-style game but with no epic story and some ideas that could be worked on. It's only worth recommending if you're fine with simple & long stories with at times challenging gameplay. 7/10
  5. The face of the franchise for almost a decade has arrived in a brand new Final Fantasy Record Keeper event. You can also pick up Sazh during this event. DeNA has also released another big update. Be sure to check it out!
  6. The Android versions of Final Fantasy III, IV, V and VI are now 50% off. They also now all support Android TV, thus allowing you to play them on your TV if you wish.
  7. Shinji Hashimoto revealed late last year that staff who worked on the Final Fantasy XIII series have been moved onto Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XIV. However, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward has since released and not one core or notable staff member from the Final Fantasy XIII series is credited. In regards to Final Fantasy XV, we already know a very large amount of the staff working on the project and only Isamu Kamikokuryo appears to be working on Final Fantasy XV. Below is all the core & notable staff members from all three titles in the Final Fantasy XIII series not including composers. Motomu Toriyama - confirmed to be directing a new title, most likely a AAA Final Fantasy title. Yoshinori Kitase - Producer of Mobius, VII Remake and likely Toriyama's title. Yuji Abe - Confirmed to be working on a Kitase project. Nobuyuki Matsuoka - Unknown Isamu Kamikokuryo - FFXV world art director Daisuke Watanabe - Unknown Toshiyuki Itahana - Character designer for Mobius Toshitaka Matsuda - Art director for Mobius Naoki Hamaguchi - Project leader for Mobius Shintaro Takai - Unknown Takeshi Iwabuchi - Unknown Yusuke Matsui - Unknown Yoshiki Kashitani - Uknown
  8. With the exception of the original FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY ALL THE BRAVEST is the the only FINAL FANTASY game to be universally negatively received. Developed by BitGroove and published by Square Enix for iOS & Android. The original concept for this title came from none other than Tetsuya Nomura who served as creative producer. And it was produced by Ichiro Hazama, the producer of the DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY series and THEATRHYTHM series. Nomura & Hazama produced a pretty bad game to be honest. There's no story and the graphics are pretty mediocre. There's some nostalgia for fans of the NES & SNES eras but that's about it. Combat is simply swiping the screen up and down. And if you want to use a main character from the FINAL FANTASY series you have to pay money just to simply have a chance of unlocking a main character like Cloud or Lightning for example. The game just consists on going around some map and fighting similar monsters and bosses by swiping up and down and you'll easily die and then you have to wait awhile for the characters to be revived or simply pay money. You'll get like one or two minutes play time without paying. There's also Fever Mode which speeds up your attacks for a short period of time but you also have to wait even longer for this. Overall this game is so bad on so many levels. I don't know what Nomura was thinking. Just go play FINAL FANTASY Record Keeper, it's actually quite good. 3/10

  10. Square Enix's E3 2015 press conference is only 3 days away and there is a good chance Motomu Toriyama's new title will be revealed here. Here you can make your final prediction what it is, for as Tidus says in Final Fantasy X: This may be our last chance. To help you make your final prediction here's a few things. Firstly on December 27, 2014 in a developer survey with 4Gamer.net, Motomu Toriyama provided a message regarding his new title. goldpanner was nice enough to provide me with a new translation of this last month: Secondly, in an interview with Famitsu.com, Motomu Toriyama confirmed he was in Business Division 1, which is headed by Yoshinori Kitase. This Business Division structure started in December 2013. Of course this is no surprise since these two have worked together since the turn of the century as director & producer respectively and even before that on Final Fantasy VII in different roles. So of course, whatever Toriyama is directing, Kitase is of course producing. Thirdly, the following key staff have not worked on any announced or released projects since the completion of Motomu Toriyama's last title, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Yuji Abe (Game Design Director) Nobuyuki Matsuoka (Battle System Director) Daisuke Watanabe (Lead Scenario Writer) Masashi Hamauzu (Lead Composer) Lastly, here's a list of all the titles Motomu Toriyama has ever worked on as well as his roles on them. Bahamut Lagoon - Story event planner Final Fantasy VII - Event planner Racing Lagoon - Scenario writer, event and map planner Final Fantasy X - Director (Event), scenario writer Final Fantasy X-2 - Director Final Fantasy VII: Technical Demo for PS3 - Developer Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings - Director, scenario and event direction The World Ends with You - Special thanks Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King - Scenario director Dissidia: Final Fantasy - Scenario supervisor Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord - Scenario director Blood of Bahamut - Director, scenario writer Final Fantasy XIII - Director, scenario designer Front Mission Evolved - Senior scriptwriter The 3rd Birthday - Scenario director Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy - Special thanks Imaginary Range - Supervisor Final Fantasy Type-0 - Special thanks Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Director Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - Director Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster - Supervisor Fire your predictions away!
  11. Wan Hazmer, the lead game designer on Final Fantasy XV and previously a game designer on Final Fantasy Type-0 has revealed to me via Twitter that his dream is to direct a video game. Hajime Tabata, the director of both titles mentioned above has recently said he doesn't want to direct two titles at once again and has expressed he wants to do a Type-1. If Tabata does go on to direct Type-1 after XV and Square Enix doesn't want to waste the resources of XV they've spent a decade on Wan Hazmer seems like the perfect person to helm a sequel. Plus, he speaks fluent English like Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series, which is very exciting for international marketing.
  12. Secret Bosses For Kingdom Hearts 3 Secret bosses have been a major staple within the Kingdom Hearts series and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be no different. Just like everything else about Kingdom Hearts, people are buzzing with ideas as to who should have the title of “secret boss”. After all, they are considered as the most difficult bosses of the game. So, here are my personal considerations for secret bosses just for Kingdom Hearts 3. Kefka (Final Fantasy 6) {Twilight Town/Cable Town} Kefka is the second most infamously famous antagonist of the Final Fantasy series only behind Sephiroth. As fantastic of a villain Kefka was: it was the Dissidia Final Fantasy series that literally gave voice to this character and ever since that debut, Final Fantasy fans have been completely amazed by Kefka’s multi-personality of insane and completely hilarious. Kefka now deserves to shine in the Kingdom Hearts series replacing Sephiroth as a dangerously powerful secret boss who is able to use a versatile of magical and physical attacks. I believe that he should be fought in Twilight Town because the sunrise and festive colour pallet of the town suits a joker like Kefka absolutely perfectly. Whether “Final Fantasy 6 Terra” should get involved with Kefka is completely up to the developers. Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy) {Destiny Islands} Gilgamesh is a very unique character in the Final Fantasy series. His speciality is that this very being is the only character to appear in more than one final fantasy after his debut from Final Fantasy 5 (excluding the Dissidia series). His speciality is being a sword collector and what better sword to collect than The Keyblade. The scenario could be Gilgamesh traveling as he usually does and then stumbles upon Sora. Being fascinated by the Keyblade, he’d tell Sora to battle him at an area of Destiny Islands. You battle him there (alone) and if you were to defeat him then there probably would be a scenario of him fleeing through a portal. I chose Destiny Islands for this secret boss because this would probably be a far more carefree battle than the other secret bosses mentioned. Garland (Final Fantasy 1) {Game Central Station} Unlike the previous Final Fantasy secret bosses that were mentioned, this secret boss will be entirely faithful to his original roots. Why you wonder? Because in Game Central Station (the world of Wreck-It Ralph), the place where you would end up battling him would be the same location as where you would battle him in his original game. I chose Game Central Station in particular because this is the very first Final Fantasy antagonist and seeing as Wreck-It Ralph is all about video games – this is the perfect tribute (of sorts) for the Final Fantasy franchise within Kingdom Hearts. Garland’s attire and battle style would obviously match that of his Dissidia appearance as that is the most memorable 3D appearance of him and his scenario with Sora… Square Enix can think of that stuff. Ultimecia (Final Fantasy 8) {???} You may think that Ultimecia is a suggestion completely out of the blue but she has far more relevance as a secret boss than all of the other Final Fantasy characters mentioned. As knowledgeable Kingdom Hearts fans are aware, Xehanort in his youth is able to time travel. So, it makes more than complete sense to place Ultimecia into Kingdom Hearts 3 as a secret boss to fit into that theme. People can already imagine Leon really getting involved in the cutscenes that feature Ultimecia which is another reason as to why she would be suited for Kingdom Hearts 3. Although, Square Enix would have to completely re-design her attire if she was to be suitable for a Disney game but if that gets sorted then it would be fantastic to go against another time-traveller! The Headless Horseman (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad) {Radiant Garden} Now we move away from the Final Fantasy cameos and onto the Disney cameos. The Headless Horseman is the first Disney property that sprung into my mind when I thought of a secret boss. He has all the ingredients worthy of the title. He was from a feature that barely many people from the modern day know about (just like Julius from KH3D), him and his horse look very menacing and he has the theme of darkness cloaked all over him. I decided that Radiant Garden was the best location for him to be based upon because that world in particular is very royal, traditional and spaced out. The particular location in which The Headless Horseman is battled at in Radiant Garden would either be a secluded area outside or an entirely new area. If this happened, it would be very memorable! Queen Narissa (Enchanted) {The World That Never Was} Now, Enchanted is one of those worlds which would not be able to fit into Kingdom Hearts because the plot involves two worlds intertwining with each other. Alongside this, the plot of the original movie would be far too convoluted for the game. The main antagonist is an exception to this though as she is a mixture of The Evil Queen, Lady Tremaine and Maleficent and her final form is far too cool and unique to be forgotten about which is why she deserve the honour of being a secret boss. I chose The World That Never Was because the scenery is most equivalent to the movie she transforms in. She would make her stay at a new area and would want to get rid of The Princesses of Heart so she can be the fairest woman. You battle her and once it is over, you slay her and she’s gone for good. Ghostly Rhinoceros (James and The Giant Peach) {Realm Of Darkness} If you thought that Julius from The Runaway Brain short was absurd then wait till you see this antagonist. The ghostly rhinoceros is a villain from Disney's adaptation James and The Giant Peach. Just like Queen Narissa, his world translates into Kingdom Hearts terribly, however, placing him in the realm of darkness would be perfect. Why? because he is a manifestation of Darkness. Sora, Donald and Goofy/Aqua or one of the other protagonists may encounter him as an enemy who is trying to ram them down (as angry Rhinoceroses do). Because the Ghostly Rhinoceros is formed of dark clouds, they can be really creative and make him difficult by having random thunderstorms being struck down as attacks, or alternatively, make him like dark hide and have a first person perspective battle! The New Primary Antagonist A majority of the Kingdom Hearts games tend to foreshadow a Secret Boss that is the next major antagonist after the game that they are debuted in. Examples of this would be Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix being the primary antagonist for Kingdom Hearts 2 and Young Master Xehanort from Birth By Sleep being the primary antagonist for Dream Drop Distance. Kingdom Hearts 3 is bound to give us a reveal of the next big antagonist for the Kingdom Hearts series and out all of the suggestions that I have given; this is an extremely realistic guarantee to happen because Kingdom Hearts 3 will conclude the Xehanort Saga and this boss can start off events for the new KH. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this very extensive article. I really dug creates as an avid Disney fan to see what valuable characters was worthwhile to be placed within Kingdom Hearts 3. Obviously, it is up to the developers entirely to decide what characters should be placed within the next Kingdom Hearts series as bosses but hopefully one on this list will be rendered just for KH3.
  13. Since Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was released, director Motomu Toriyama, lead scenario writer Daisuke Watanabe and game design director Yuji Abe have been extremely quiet. We've literally only heard from Toriyama once since then: On December 27, 2014 in a developer survey with 4Gamer.net, Toriyama said “My next title is in well underway in development. We'll be able to announce it in 2015, so please look forward to it!” The question is, what are they working on? Nearly two months ago, Square Enix president & CEO, Yosuke Matsuda confirmed a new JRPG for home consoles will be revealed at or around E3 2015. He was likely talking about Toriyama's title or simply Star Ocean 5. In an interview with Famitsu.com, Motomu Toriyama confirmed he was in Business Division 1, which is headed by Yoshinori Kitase. This Business Division structure started in December 2013. Of course this is no surprise since these two have worked together since 1999 as director & producer respectively and even before that on Final Fantasy VII in different roles. So of course, whatever Toriyama is directing, Kitase is of course producing. Other staff very likely to be working on Toriyama's title include the following: Yuji Abe (Game Design Director) Nobuyuki Matsuoka (Battle System Director) Daisuke Watanabe (Scenario Writer) Masashi Hamauzu (Composer) All four have no announced projects at Square Enix, all four worked on the XIII trilogy and the last two worked on the FFX series as well. Now the question is what are they working on? The platforms appear likely to be PlayStation 4 & Xbox One since business division 1 will have no announced projects when Mobius Final Fantasy releases very soon (looking like next month) and divisions 2 to 7 each have at least one new game in development for PlayStation 4. Is their new project related to an older entry such as X or VII? Is it a new Final Fantasy title? Is it a new IP? Is it a new Parasite Eve or dare I say it, Front Mission? Hopefully we find it out soon whatever it is.
  14. The man who has directed more Final Fantasy games than anyone else ever. Nuff said.
