  1. Seeing as we're all fans of Kingdom Hearts, we're aware of the developers, Square Enix. However, here are a couple of facts that even some of the most hardcore Square Enix fans may not have been aware of... Xenogears was the original concept for Final Fantasy VII but it was deemed as too dark. To add insult to injury, supposedly, the budget of that game was cut for Final Fantasy VIII. Because Xenogears didn't hit the expected sales targets, Square refused to continue with Xenogears. As a result, Tetsuya Takashi left Square. If he never left Square, Xenosaga and Xenoblade Chronicles would have never existed... Aside from Dragon Quest, Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile are the only other Enix franchises to have been developed by Square Enix after the merger of Enix and Square occurred. Enix did not have internal development studios, thus, Dragon Quest was developed by Chunsoft and Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile was (and still is) developed by Tri-Ace. Enix owns the Manga and Magazine imprint called Gangan Comics. They're responsible for publishing Mangas in Japan such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, Nabari no Ou, Inu x Boku SS, and Soul Eater. After the Square Enix merger occurred, Gangan Comics aided in the publishing of the Kingdom Hearts manga in Japan as well as other Square properties. Square Enix USA is actually a consolidated merger (basically a new company formed by mixing two different companies). It's Square Electronic Arts mixed with Squaresoft. For people who are wondering what Square Electronic Arts is, it was a cross-publishing and translation partnership with Square and Electronic Arts. Square EA were the translators for a bunch of SNES, PS1 and PS2 Square games. Squaresoft on the other hand was nothing more than a publishing name. Once Square Enix was formed, Square EA was bought and merged with the publishing company. Tactics Ogre is an obscure franchise by Square that was the inspiration for Final Fantasy Tactics. Surprisingly enough, that franchise is owned by Square because they bought a company called Quest Corporation. What's even more coincidental is that a bunch of Quest Corporation members left the company to join Square to create Final Fantasy Tactics. Quest Corporation was dissolved because it was a company that was no longer needed. Most of the current Square Enix executives were originally from the Enix side and not the Square side. You see, Enix was the company that merged with Square and not the other way round. Enix had a lot of financial capital in Japan but no brand recognition internationally. Merging with Square would have solved that situation alongside gaining internal video game developers hence the merger. This is further proven with recent promotion images of Square Enix games. There's the Square Enix "E" on the bottom right corner signifying the Enix influence. Final Fantasy The Spirits Within didn´t send Squaresoft to bankrupt, they were already having finantial problems way before the movie bombed, the movie was a potential nail in the coffin for Square if anything. However, the sales of Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts regained confidence in Enix for the merger. Square Enix own Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble and Darius. They did this by acquiring Taito Corporation (the original developers and publishers of those franchises). Square Enix made this merger to compete in the arcade industry against Sega, Capcom, Namco and Konami (as neither Square nor Enix dabbled in arcades before) and to combat changes in the video game industry. Taito is now Square Enix's arcade subsidiary. If anyone knows the game Gunslinger Stratos, Taito helped with development using their arcade hardware. Square Enix Europe is actually Eidos Interactive. For those wondering who they are, they were the British publishers for Tomb Raider, Gex, Deus Ex, Hitman and Legacy of Kain etc. They were associated with Square Enix after Square Enix bought them as a subsidiary. Eidos Interactive named was changed to Square Enix Europe in order to streamline the company. The renaming was a statutory merger as Eidos Interactive and the former Square Enix Europe division (that was just a European publishing branch unaffiliated with Eidos) was merged to form the present western division. Square Enix Japan has supported the Wii U. Before people say that "We know Cloud is in Smash Bros", it goes beyond that. Dragon Quest X is an MMORPG exclusively released in Japan. Sure, it's a port but it's a game available on the Wii U nevertheless. Hopefully, this has been an enjoyable read for somebody. As they say...
  2. My final submission. Since my last one was a field theme for a Imagined Moana World, this one was supposed to be the battle theme but I think it works better as a minigame theme, to be honest. This song is titled Moana Koa. I want to thank again a friend who helped me rip KHII soundfonts. And as always, the download link is in the description of the video!
  3. Square Enix has recently updated their website’s job openings page. The positions that have been added include work with both the Tokyo and Osaka development teams. The Osaka team is notably the team that is currently developing Kingdom Hearts III. Two postings have been added for both the Tokyo and Osaka teams. The following positions have been translated by Goldpanner: While none of these positions seem to point to any crucial post-production work, the Lighting Artist job is particularly interesting due to the amount of focus given to the position's description and significance. Special thanks to KH13 Social Media Team Member Barry Bacon Allen for the tip! Do you think any of the positions listed above speak to Kingdom Hearts III’s development status? 7. So to understand the Xbox version of KH3 was announced back in 2013 in the first trailer. With that in hand, you already know where this subject is going. So I suppose I need to talk about this I sat down and got super hyped 1.5 and 2.5 to next gen in 60 fps for that matter. Woot! However right at the end of that trailer... Now it should be noted this was the NA trailer had this been the JP one I'd just pass it off, however...It isn't and I'm rather annoyed by this simply because now at this moment I simply have to ask? What's the point bringing KH3 to the Xbox One if you are not going to even port 1.5 and 2.5 over so people who want to get into the series can? I said it back before this was announced if another collection with 1 and 2 and the other games are in it I'm sure it will be on Xbone it only makes sense right? I was entirely wrong instead it's a PS4 exclusive and I doubt that will be changing and the worse part I doubt anyone in any interview will ask "Why are you bringing KH3 to Xbox but not the other HD collections?" I have a PS4 but this still ticks me off I feel bad for anyone who has a Xbone and was hoping that the HD collections would be rereleased and made Multi-platform. What are you guys thoughts and opinions on this? And it should be noted I am not saying people on the Xbone are entitled to get KH I'm just annoyed by the way Square has handled it by saying 3 will be on the One but anything else is a nope. I'm also pointing fingers at the crybabies who complained when KH3 was confirmed for the Xbox One you acted completely entitled like the series should only be on PS When in reality the series up until recently was on several different handhelds and the PS2. KH has never been Sony exclusive. As much as I could go on I like hearing other peoples opinions.
  8. I have started work on my "Road to 2.8" November piece. Decided that this one was going to be themed around Back Cover. I was super excited about drawing the foretellers as I love their character designs. This is just a work in progress sketch for now. Just wanted to give you guys a little sneak peek! Let me know what you all think!
  9. Nintendo recently released for their new console, the Switch. While there was no footage of Kingdom Hearts III or Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue within the teaser, Nintendo has released a graphic showcasing many of the console's third-party partners, where Square Enix can be seen. Additionally, as shown in the teaser, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was showcased extensively, so Nintendo seems to be embracing third-party developers much more than in previous console generations. Update: Epic Games, one of the partners for the Switch, has confirmed that Nintendo's newest console will have Unreal Engine 4 support. This is the same engine used for Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, and the engine that Kingdom Hearts III is being developed with. Are you excited for the release of the Nintendo Switch? What do you think of the possibility of a future Kingdom Hearts game on the Switch? Let us know in the comments!

  11. So, this is the second piece for my "Road to 2.8" series. I decided to paint it instead of doing line-art this time. Boy did this take a good while to do lol. (Rather frustrating too). This time we have Terranort and Venitas trying to look all cool and whatnot. I'm probably going to just keep this a once a month thing unless I just get overwhelming inspiration to do more . That means 3 more pieces to do before 2.8 releases. Now, I really do love to hear feedback, both good and bad. It helps me to improve, so please don't be shy to give me your thoughts! Also, I'm open to suggestions on what the November piece should be. It can be anyone or anything as long as it relates to 2.8! Hope you guys enjoy! Ps: Don't mind the logo. I was too lazy to draw out the full blown design, and I didn't want to copy and paste the original logo, so I just did that .
  12. What Square-Enix IPs would you like to crossover with another Studio IPs? What kind of game would it be? I personally would like to see a fighting game, more precisely Capcom vs Square-Enix!! Which I find really funny how this hasn´t happened yet, considering all the VS crossovers that Capcom has made over the past two decades. art by EliroX904 on DevianART.

Things that perhaps need improving for the next patch? Let's discuss them here! [Also if this has been posted before I will delete the thread, or rather ask a mod to]

    Square Enix and Taito

Aah, Taito. You were an absolute heavyweight in the arcade days against Atari, Sega, Namco, Capcom and firetruck Konami. For everyone clueless about this company, they were the developers responsible for Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble and the Lufia series. But a more interesting fact is that, they're owned entirely by Square Enix. The acquisition happened during 2005 as Taito wanted the relevancy into mainstream gaming again and Square Enix wanted to delve into the arcade business so they both benefited! Thing is though, this historic company is completely forgotten outside Japan nowadays... Which is why I've decided to create a petition to Square Enix so that they consider releasing a legacy arcade collection to make Taito relevant and provide a bit of gaming culture to the world. https://www.change.org/p/square-enix-publish-a-taito-legacy-collection-game Here is the link to the petition. Of course, this is no guarantee for a new game, but making some noise is better than making no noise.
  15. Due to the inclusion of the world ends with you characters in KH3D, being the first non final fantasy, disney or original KH characters in the series, it got me thinking what other series i would like to see in the future if they chose to go this route. it's entirely possible for more series to join especially as we start to run out of Disney worlds. The way i see this going down is it could happen if Xehanort was to win the final the battle at the conclusion of KH3, splitting the worlds up again allowing for pixar films and other square franchises to be apart of the KH series from the games to follow. pretty sho' that is already a theory in itself. But i would love to see cameos of the likes of Ringabell and Edea from Bravely Default having there own little side story in Hollow Bastion. However, I understand people wanting to keep the series away from all that stuff, it's just a thought. What possible Square Enix characters would you like to see in future kingdom hearts games?
  16. So if you are some of the few who hasn't seen the SEP KH2.8 livestream with Tai Yasue, SE uploaded that segment for your viewing!
  17. I have always been a huge fan of Square. I've loved almost every game in the Final Fantasy series and enjoy many of their other titles in like (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, et cetera). While I certainly do enjoy a game chock-full of cutscenes and high-def graphics, there is something that I genuinely miss about the old-school games and the old RPGs that Square used to produce. I know technology is advancing and everyone is moving toward newer, better graphics and more cinematics, but does anyone else miss the classics? Would you really enjoy seeing a new Final Fantasy game made in 8-bit graphics with a quality storyline and a lot of the other simplicities that made the older Square games just phenomenal? Perhaps I'm alone here, but I greatly miss the old style RPGs and would absolutely love it if Square would make a new RPG with an older flair, even for a throwback anniversary title or something. This trailer, though old, made me further realize how much I would love another 8-bit Final Fantasy game. Square Enix made it as a trailer for Lightning Returns, recapping the previous two games in the XIII trilogy. Personally I think I would've enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII so much more had it been like this example. Does anyone else desire an older style Square RPG, or do I just miss the past all too much? : P
  18. Just a general inquiry here, But is anyone else into the Disgaea series like I am? I've loved all of them, although I still have yet to play the newest one (Disagea 5). RPGs and JRPGs have always been my forte for as long as I can remember. Anyway, my favorite that I've played is probably the fourth title in the series, 'A Promise Unforgotten'. There were also two fun spin-off games as well, dealing with the "Prinny" characters, which are basically these penguins that are slaves and minions in the underworld. There are also manga, lots of merchandise, novelizations, and an anime as well based on the series. It's definitely up there for me in my favorites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh1cdWOK9DA
  19. i know square enix make a very good games and i play only kingdom hearts
  20. Have you ever bought goods from the Square Enix store? If so, what did you get?
