  1. If you watched Zoey 101 about 10 years ago and remember the Time Capsule episode, where Zoey told Chase he can see what she said about him 10 years into the future? Well Dan Schneider kept his promise. It's been 10 years...
  2. Supp, Anyone excited for the new TV-Show based on the film limitless, Limitless? I really liked the movie so im pretty excited for the TV-Show.
  3. The episode "The Return of Slade" is a Bait and Switch worse than Raiden being the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2. The episode starts with Robin alerting the team that Slade has returned, so they go out to face him, but they don't show the battle on screen! Instead of showing the battle, the episode focuses on Beast-Boy and Cyborg on wanting a clown. As if that wasn't enough of a middle finger to the fanbase, the "moral" of the episode makes it even worse. The plot is that a clown shows up, but he's not as cool as Cyborg and Beast Boy remember because "clowns are for kids." So, they change him to be the clown awesome like they remember, while Raven tells them "they need to let go of their love for clowns because they're for kids and they need stop paying attention to something they should have outgrown.” The entire episode is one f**k you to fans who say the original show was better, justifying that they only like the "old awesome" show because of the nostalgia filter and they should have outgrown cartoons by now. What really irks me is the combination of these two complaints. If they wanted to do episode about letting go of your childhood and not seeing things through nostalgia goggles, that would be fine. If they wanted to do a bait and switch joke about Slade as a jab at the fans of the old show, that would be fine too. But when you put it together one after the other, you end up creating a situation where you purposely baited fans of the old show to watch the episode just to be sure that you get as many of them as possible watching as you mock them. This bait is what made clown plot turn from a standard story into a middle finger shown to people - they knew fans of old cartoon will sit in front of the tv screen, some of them excited for Slade, some terrified how will the show handle him and some just curious and open minded. And then they went to tell every single one of these people they're idiots for liking things made for kids.
  4. Hey there everyone, how's it going!? So then, a few days ago, my older brother showed me this really badass video of Batman, and well, it was just something truly amazing! I can't even put it into words, so I'll just post the link here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gbs67ApxL4 Man, if there was a Batman show like this, I'd definitely watch it! I already love Batman enough as is, but seeing him and the colorful cast of characters in this animation style would be badass! X_X
  5. It is once again "Late Night Thread" time, and right now... well, uh, this is just gonna be another one of those things where I just ramble about something. Hopefully in a coherent manner. I don't really make threads like this that often anymore and I felt like getting something off my chest, so uh, yeah, here I go: So, people who know me best know that I watch cartoons, and I have in fact been watching them since I was young. Hell, I made a status not too long ago about watching Baby Looney Tunes. I am nineteen freaking years old. And yet, I saw it when I was in elementary school, well above the age where you're actually "allowed" to watch it and continue to willfully watch re-runs of it today. And I'm proud of that. That being said, I also dabble in today's ever-growing pool of modern cartoons, and just like most media consumed by people my age, it tends to be bashed a lot just based on principle ... I don't care about this either, but still take off the rose-tinted glasses people, yeesh. The point I am trying to make is that while I am a fan of currently running cartoons like Adventure Time and Steven Universe, there is a mentality that I feel is present in those who legitimately enjoy these shows as well as those people I mentioned who someone "converted", a mentality that I highly disagree with. Basically, it's that the reason these shows are actually considered good is because they have "plot", and by that I mean they all have overarching story arcs with things like callbacks to previous events/actions, backstories, character development based off those two things, and basically any type of world-building that leads fans to make up a bunch of fan theories. Kinda of like anime. Now, is this a bad thing? Nope. Not at all. In fact, it's great that this type of media that is so wrongfully accused of being "just for kids" has an element to it that allows it to draw in fans of older and maybe even beyond... but that's not to say it's the only redeemable quality to these shows, right? Of course not. Let me give you an example. I've made it clear that I'm a fan of The Amazing World Of Gumball. It's a episodic comedy centering around a blue cat, his family, and the denizens of his hometown Elmore that consists mostly of slice-of-life happenings and shenanigans. Why do I like it, you ask? Even though it sounds like something not unlike the shows that I described earlier? My reasons are simple: 1) It's funny, both in terms of general silly humor and even dark comedy; 2) it's entertaining if not funny due to having good animation and fairly decent action/drama scenes when it wants to; 3) It has an unique art style that blends different forms of animation into one setting that fits very well; 3) the characters are good despite not having direct arcs for themselves; 4) it has good enough messages that you can take from it despite being a "silly" cartoon; 5) it playfully mocks animation tropes, writing tropes, and other subject matter; 6) it's gets more clever with each new episode; 7) even when it's mean-spirited, it can still be funny. I could go on but I'll stop right there. You get the point. None of these reasons are (mostly) similar to why I love shows like Adventure Time or Steven Universe. They are more in-line with other shows I like such as Regular Show and Sonic Boom. But that's okay. It's okay not to have a complex plot like most anime have. It's okay not to have "deep" characterization carried over a span of story arcs. It's okay that if doesn't want to make you write up a theory about if the main character is really a duck from the Planet Jupiter. It's all okay. In Gumball, there is no bigger meaning or bigger plot, but there are a few nods to previous episodes and storylines picked up from previous episodes. The characters aren't given personal arcs or grow along with the story of lack-there0of, but they able to learn and adapt if given the time to do so, and that includes Gumball himself. There isn't a deep lore made up of backstories of previous events or characters with time spent on building the world that the show takes place in for the same purposes, but as the title says, it certainly is an "amazing world", as in a world that clearly shows that it is a world filled with characters and places and interesting things, and all of that done without exposition dumps. The bottom line: cartoons, or anything in general really, are good because it is what it wants to be and what that is has quality. Cartoons of the past, the cartoons my generation and I love such as Courage The Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Spongebob (the good seasons), Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life, and even going back further to stuff like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo, and the Looney Tunes, aren't all held in high regard because they all serve a deeper purpose other than to just entertain somebody for eleven minutes. Some did have bigger intentions, but not all, and even then, they had qualities beside that which helped serve to make them as popular and well-regarded as they are now. They were simply all good cartoons. And it's possible to find that same level of quality in today's cartoons. It doesn't even have to do with the fact that they are made in today's age because like I said earlier, and I mean it this time: take off the rose-colored glasses. Just because something is new and wasn't part of your childhood doesn't make it automatically horrible. In fact, if you look back and really think about it, not everything about your childhood is awesome. You might even realize that it's as bad or even worse than the stuff you have today. Let me remind you that there is crap in every era of time. The 90s had it, the 80s had it, the 70s definitely had it, and so on. For every good cartoon comes a bad one. Plain and simple. This even applies to today, but honestly, it's very easy to find more examples of good than bad, and if you look back on those previous eras, you might agree with me. I know I sort of got off topic and turn this into a rant about nostalgia but my original point still stands.
  6. Disney Channel Canada is launching soon, and I dunno if my Fibreop will contain it along with reluanchings of Disney Jr. Canada and Disney Canada. What website should I watch that will help count my viewership towards the ratings of my favourite shows on the channel? I've heard that ProjectFreeTV counts towards ratings but how does it and other sites work?
  7. This might be the most bizarre and most amazing Mickey Mouse short that I've seen yet, seriously. I'm kind of new to the whole forum thread posting thing. I'm doing it right, right?
  8. Anyone of heard of the Saturday Supercade? You know, that one show which starred many game characters into cartoons and are put in bizarre situations and stories that has some to no relation to the actual games?...No?Well, I'm one of the few people who has seen Saturday Supercade thanks to the internet! And since most of you don't know about this, here are intros!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmfT-YPXo4M
  9. If there was kid show(s)that you think should have a Film Adaptation what which it be
  10. In my opinion, it ís a tie between Constantine and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because they are less traditional shows, and focus more on the sub-genre.
  11. Here, you can talk about favorite moments in the show, pairings and fan art , and much more!
  12. Looks intriguing so far. Should be pretty interesting to see how well they adaptate it. Hopefully it and the Shadowhunters tv show will show the potential in adapting books for TV rather than film. While rereading Goblet of Fire, I have found that tv is a better way to represent the essence and feeling of the books, not that the movies haven't been awesome and well done already. Anyways you can check out a teaser for the Unfortunate Netflix show here:
  13. I’m making history here folks, as this is the first review where I tackle a cartoon series. This one is particular is my favorite cartoon of all time. Created by a wacky Canadian named Danny Antonucci, “Ed, Edd, N Eddy” is one of the most popular shows to come out of Cartoon Network in the 1990s and the 2000s, and one of the original “Cartoon Cartoons”, a selection of original programming that helped put Cartoon Network on the map. After all the other Cartoon Cartoons had ended, EEnE was the last one standing until its eventual end in 2009, lasting a full decade after its original premiere in 1999. The show went on for 130 episodes, four specials, and a movie, and while I am in the camp that would love to see more of this show in the future, I’d say that as it is, it’s pretty much complete. It’s one of those shows that no matter what time you’re living in, you can go back, watch, and enjoy everything that happens: the same stories, the same morals, the same characters, and even the same jokes. It’s that reason why I consider this my favorite cartoon of all time: it’s absolutely timeless. Now then, let’s get to the review! That’ll be 25 cents… ha-ha, just kidding. Well, I got that out of the way, but I'm not necessarily done yet. I mentioned that there was a movie, right? You see, In 2009, the first ever movie for the series was released, titled “Ed, Edd, n Eddy’s Big Picture Show”. I’ll be covering that in a separate review, for even though it is related to the EEnE series, it is a completely different beast all of its own, especially considering its tone and bookends. Butdon'tworry,I'llgettheSM2andmaybetheSM3reviewoutofthewaybeforethat.
  14. On Once Upon a Time! http://comicbook.com/2015/07/15/first-look-at-braves-merida-on-once-upon-a-time/
  15. A rebooted, different take on the previous adaptation of the fabulous Mortal Instruments book series. The actors that they've casted look very much like how I imagined the characters when reading. Hopefully the series will be good and much better than the movie. Premieres on ABC Family in January 2016. Not sure where in Canada but most likely ABC Spark. Please let me know if you hear any other information concerning it. You'll probably have to buy a package if you have fibreop for it
  16. So, does anybody else watch? I told my coworker that I wanted to start watching it, and she let me borrow her DVDs. I just spent the past month binge watching it and finally caught up - just in time for Season 5 that started airing last week! Now that I can't binge watch, at least nothing I haven't seen already, I feel a little empty. But it's also my life right now. Literally all I think about. So dope.
  17. Some game shows I'd like to see come back are the Match Game, Whammy/Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, Who Wants to Win Ben Stein's Money, Weakest Link, Shop 'til You Drop, and Supermarket Sweep(I absolutely loved this show)!
  18. I don't really understand the whole "fanfiction" thing of Octavia and Vinyl Scratch. If only if they continued onward to this scene. It's so FREAKING epic!!! Not sure if some of you seen the 100th Episode yet. (For the ones that watches MLP: FiM...) I think this is just a sneak peak of the 100th episode. I remember seeing one that involves the citizens of Ponyville watching the Maine 6 fighting some Bug Bear.
  19. Production has begun on Star Wars Rebels, an exciting, all-new animated television series based on one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time. Scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney channels around the world. Leading the development of the series is a creative team of exceptional talent. Screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is an executive producer on Star Wars Rebels and will write the premiere episode. He is joined by Dave Filoni as executive producer, who served as supervising director of the Emmy nominated Star Wars: The Clone Wars since 2008. Executive producer Greg Weisman brings with him a wealth of animation experience with credits such as Young Justice, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Gargoyles. Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, "The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation for over three decades, and we're thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of Star Wars to Disney 's viewers." "I couldn't be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe," said Kathleen Kennedy, president, Lucasfilm. "I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars." The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV -- an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point. Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fans attending Star Wars Celebration Europe will be the first to get an exclusive look at the new series. Casting will be announced at a later date. More information about this developing project will be found on StarWars.com and on Facebook at facebook.com/starwarsrebels.
  20. Love this show and i do not care that it is Disney Junior. What does that have to do with loving it? Besides, you (re) learn things that you have long forgotten and need to essentially know no matter what age you are. Its actually better for an adult/older person than what this show is aimed for to watch these "junior" shows than a lot of the crap that they are "supposed" to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqmBgc5BG1A
  21. Reason 1: It shows some of the more unappealing sides that humanity shows when in times of stress. Reason 2: The monsters identity is not revealed, which makes it that more scary. Reason 3: It's a bottle episode Reason 4: The way the creature imitates people is just so creepy
  22. I loved watching this when it was still on and I'm glad it's coming back! Oooh, all the jokes and fights they can make now with today's celebrities! Justin Bieber vs. Usher, 2 Chainz vs. Blake Shelton, Billy Mays vs. Gary Coleman. The list is endless! Source: http://sourcefed.com/celebrity-deathmatch-returning-to-mtv2/
  23. I was watching the new Daredevil series on Netflix, and I realized I really liked it. It's a lot darker than the other series and films Marvel has released recently, and I'm usually not a huge fan of series like it, but this really gripped me. Now, I may be a bit biased towards liking all things MCU-related, but the critical response has also been really great. So has anyone else seen it? And what are your thoughts?
  24. Hopefully, this series will air on TV when it's complete. We only have this trailer & it gets me hyped. It's going really dark. And yes, the original voice actors/actress were in this trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_2aDok_CcQ
