Earlier today, Activision made a new blog post going over its E3 plans and what fans can expect. One of the games mentioned was Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and Activision left a message stating: "The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available for preorder now, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a special Crash announcement during E3!" While this could simply be an announcement that the game will come to other platforms along with the PlayStation 4, it's possible that there might be another Crash game coming in the future. I'm surprised that nobody really pondered the thought, seeing as they were both originally PlayStation mascots by Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games respectively, but anyway, here comes the technicalities... you'll be needing hot chocolate for this one, trust me. Basically, the original owners of Crash and Spyro were Universal Interactive, the video game development division of Universal. Universal Interactive then got acquired by Seagram. Seagram eventually had to strip assets due to financial difficuilties so they sold Universal Interactive to Vivendi. Vivdendi acquired Universal Interactive and merged Sierra Entertainment as a subsidiary to Universal Interactive which was renamed to Vivendi Universal Games. Sierra Entertainment was the home for Crash and Spyro under Vivendi Universal. Eventually, Vivendi acquired Activision and renamed Vivendi Universal to Activision Blizzard, a subsidiary of Vivendi. Activision Blizzard acquired enough shares from its parent to become independent from Vivendi. Once Activision Blizzard became independant, Crash and Spyro was moved from the Sierra Entertainment brand to the Activision brand.
So, as you may have heard from E3, CRASH IS BACK. They're remastering the original PS1 trilogy for PS4 from the ground up. Now, as I recently bought all the Crash Bandicoot games (I'm obsessed, I know), there's a few things I'd like to see changed or kept. Each game keeps its own physics. I say this mostly because each game's levels are based around Crash's specific controls and physics within each game. As easy as it would be to just give Crash his controls and physics from Crash 2 (best controls and physics ever), Crash 1 only needs some tightening up on controller delay and the slippery controls. Fix the save system for Crash 1. Anyone who's played Crash 1 knows how terrible the save system is (you have to not die in a level and break every box). So I propose two options: either allow saving from the world map or allow us to die and still get a gem at the end of the level. Keep the original voiceovers IF YOU CAN. The original voice acting for Crash 1 and 2 were fantastic. Crash 1 had only a few lines of dialogue that should be redone (it's all done by one guy and Clancy Brown's Cortex from 2 was SO much better). But I do realize some of that audio may not have the right quality needed for PS4. I'd love to see Lex Lang (the most recent voice actor for Cortex) and the other modern voice actors (minus Tiny, cause Tiny is a massive brute and not Cartman) take their riffs on the original script and dialogue. If this remaster succeeds, bring back Spyro with a remaster. I love Spyro. Spyro was a great trilogy on PS1. It was honestly sad to see Crash come back in a big way while Spyro lives on life support from a game series he isn't really even in anymore (Skylanders, which Crash is also coming to). I say that if the demand is there for Crash's remaster, they should work out bringing his PS1 rival back as well. What do you guys think?
