  1. Final Fantasy VII Remake has received many unique mods, comprising cosmetic alterations to gameplay changes. Recently, one standout mod that can be seen as a fusion of both umbrella avenues is by user ColossalCake, depicting protagonist Cloud Strife with the iconic Kingdom Key. This weapon was actually made from scratch to fit Final Fantasy VII Remake's world better, as its size should reflect. In fact, the sheer difference in size between this recreation and the Kingdom Key in Kingdom Hearts proper has to do with it mimicking the hitboxes of Cloud's weapons in-game. However, the sound effects emitted from the Kingdom Key here are cleverly taken from Kingdom Hearts III. Regarding gameplay incorporations, the Kingdom Key houses four unique Materia slots, which, for those unaware, are essentially ways to customize weapon builds. Additionally, it can replace either the Buster Sword or Mythril Blade weapons for Cloud. Lastly of note is that aside from ColossalCake performing the mod's texture and modeling work, the following individuals also provided noteworthy contributions of their own: matyalatte for their FF7R-mesh-importer, FF7R-DDS-tools, and Blender-Uasset-Add-on tool. Yoraiz0r for their AudioMog tool. spiritovod for their Umodel tool. FluffyQuack for their unrealpak tool. If you'd like to download this impressive mod and/or view additional screenshots, check out its dedicated Nexus Mods page. View full article

  8. The internal development team for Final Fantasy VII Remake consists of staff from what we can assume is the original Kingdom Hearts team (Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories & Kingdom Hearts II) and Dissidia Final Fantasy team. You can read a translation of the linked tweet below thanks to goldpanner. This further supports the theory Motomu Toriyama and the team behind the Final Fantasy XIII series has had their own project in development for at least a year and a half. And it is most likely Final Fantasy X-3. If not, other options are Parasite Eve, Front Mission or a new IP.
  9. Jiraiya has taken a new job after leaving Naruto! I Narrating! His message can be read below. "Once I left Naruto, I decided to pursue another career. I thought of several things, but nothing seemed to be working out... Then it hit me! Narration! I became an instant hit!" View the fruit of his labor below!
  10. I've listed below 11 points that indicate or suggest Motomu Toriyama is working on Final Fantasy VII Remake. Special thanks go to Twitter user @Vagrant_XII for finding some of these. #1 Motomu Toriyama said Never once does he say he's actually directing the project, just that he's "currently working hard on the next project". And the choice of words "next project" make it sound like it's awhile away. Additionally, FFVII Remake is the only AAA title announced by Square Enix so far in 2015 not to have its core team announced. #2 His massive impact on the original game. Toriyama was responsible for some of the most famous parts in FFVII. The intro? Yep. Honey Bee Inn? Yep. Cross-dressing Cloud? Yep. The romance between Cloud & Aerith? Yep. Cloud's showing off pose? Yep. The Submarine Chase Section? Also correct. His work here set up his career and made Yoshinori Kitase assign him as Event Director on Final Fantasy X and one of the game's four scenario writers and soon after promoted him to Director. #3 That Tech Demo. Motomu Toriyama was the developer of the Final Fantasy VII for PS3 Tech Demo shown at E3 2005. #4 The game holds a special place in his heart. #5 Motomu Toriyama & Yoshinori Kitase talked about an FFVII remake on a personal level before it happened. #6 In 2010, Toriyama famously and excitedly responded to Siliconera about which Final Fantasy game he'd want to remake the most. #7 Toriyama seemed to disagree with then-Square Enix president Yochi Wada's comments about not remaking VII until they had made a game that exceeded VII's quality. #8 In an interview with bit-gamer.net in 2008, Yoshinori Kitase commented on a possible remake of FFVII. This was his response. #9 After Final Fantasy XIII's release, Toriyama answered another question about an FFVII Remake. This was his response. Thanks to Twitter user @BousfHearts for the translation. #10 Final Fantasy VII Remake began development in early 2014 after the Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII team returned from overseas promotion and break. Shinji Hashimoto revealed in December 2014 that members of the Final Fantasy XIII team were moved onto Final Fantasy XV & Final Fantasy XIV, Motomu Toriyama was not among them. #11 Motomu Toriyama revealed he is in Business Division 1 in an interview with Famitsu shortly before FFVII Remake begun development. Mobius Final Fantasy & Final Fantasy VII Remake both began development in early 2014. It seems unlikely they'd want to start development of another project when they have two projects already in development and neither about to release. His most likely role appears to be Event Director, his original main role on Final Fantasy X and the next step up from his main role on the original Final Fantasy VII. Other possible roles include other cutscene/scenario-related roles such as assisting with the scenario and possibly Co-Director since Tetsuya Nomura usually has a co-director and Motomu Toriyama is the most experienced AAA director at Square Enix.
  11. Who do you think is working on Final Fantasy VII Remake? This is not including additional developers that will help out, eg. tri-Ace on XIII-2 and LR or HexaDrive on XV.
  12. Following the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tetsuya Nomura revealed that no one younger him to work on the original was working on the remake. Yusuke Naora, the Art Director for Final Fantasy VII was born in 1971 while Nomura was born in 1970. Clearly, Naora is understandably too busy with Final Fantasy XV.
  13. As many people are aware, I am a massive Motomu Toriyama & Yoshinori Kitase fan. After listening to the audio drama included in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster in April 2014 I believed an exciting return to Spira was inevitable following that and the X-2.5 novella. While I still believe there's a good chance of it occurring one day as a game or movie I do not believe it was the project Motomu Toriyama stated he was hard at work on in December 2014. And there are various reasons for this. #1 Motomu Toriyama said "I am currently working hard on the next project. We will be able to announce it in 2015, so please look forward to that!" Never once does he say he's actually directing the project, just that he's "currently working hard on the next project". Motomu Toriyama was the developer of the Final Fantasy VII for PS3 Tech Demo shown at E3 2005. #4 The game holds a special place in his heart. #5 Motomu Toriyama & Yoshinori Kitase talked about an FFVII remake on a personal level before it happened. #6 In 2010, Toriyama famously and excitedly responded to Siliconera about which Final Fantasy game he'd want to remake the most. "[Laughs.] That would be Final Fantasy VII! If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project. If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake." #7 Toriyama seemed to disagree with then-Square Enix president Yochi Wada's comments about not remaking VII until they had made a game that exceeded VII's quality. “As a creator, there’s a bit in there that I can’t agree with.” #8 Final Fantasy VII Remake began development in early 2014 after the Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII team returned from overseas promotion and break. Shinji Hashimoto revealed in December 2014 that members of the Lightning Returns team were moved onto Final Fantasy XV & Final Fantasy XIV, Motomu Toriyama was not among them. #9 Motomu Toriyama revealed he is in Business Division 1 in an interview with Famitsu shortly before FFVII Remake begun development. Mobius Final Fantasy & Final Fantasy VII Remake both began development in early 2014. It seems unlikely they'd want to start development of another project when they have two projects already in development and neither about to release, and additionally, the amount of staff in Business Division 1 does not appear to be that much.
  14. Motomu Toriyama, an event planner on the original Final Fantasy VII and director of the Final Fantasy X & XIII series along with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is likely to have a major role in the development of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. There are many reasons why I now believe this to be the case. Firstly Motomu Toriyama has expressed his desire to remake Final Fantasy VII in the past. Secondly, Toriyama's work on the original VII left a large impact such as cross-dressing Cloud and making Aerith an important character to the player. Most importantly: 4Gamer.net posted this on December 27, 2014. Nomura says they begun development before the PS4 port's announcement. The port was announced at the start of December 2014. He also says: “To put it simply, one of main reasons is the timing for the staff members that are developing the game, and how it worked out in our favour,” What had changed? Lightning Returns had finished development and they couldn't have just been waiting for Kitase. Also: “Of all the staff that worked on the original Final Fantasy VII, and those who are working on the remake, I’m the youngest one,” Nomura explains. There isn't that many staff left from the FFVII team. And we already know some of those staff are busy. Eg. Yusuke Naora is art director on FFXV and Hiroki Chiba is director & scenario writer on World of Final Fantasy. Next, Nomura usually has a co-director. Versus XIII went shockingly until Hajime Tabata joined the project as co-director, and all the Kingdom Hearts games since Kingdom Hearts II have had a co-director. Nomura has reportedly said he lacks the skill to control a large team. Instead, he relies on a co-director to help lead development. Motomu Toriyama as someone who left an impact on the original game and has since directed 5 AAA Final Fantasy games, including 3 during the HD era has a lot of experience. Motomu Toriyama also confirmed he's still in Kitase's division and as a result Kitase's producing his title. Kitase is of course producing the VII Remake. Hopefully we get a confirmation of what he's working on soon. New fact: “Our publishers take us through their slates,” he said, recalling a meeting with Square from earlier last year. “When he said ‘FFVII remake’, I said, ‘uhhh excuse me’? At first, I assumed it was the PC one, the PC one wasn’t a remake. “They said: ‘We’re doing the full one.’ - Adam Boyes, head of third-party developer relations at PlayStation Checks out with when Toriyama & Kitase returned to work after LR & X/X-2 HD.
