I've recently been thinking how fast things seem to go on the internet. Something that happened a year ago almost feels like it was thousands of years ago.

On the internet things change rapidly. Something that is extremely popular today might be forgotten in a year, a month, a week, or even a few days. Where as in the real world, trends can carry on for decades.

Often times I look back at some very old post I made on a certain site and even though it was only a year ago it feels like forever since I made that post.

So I came up with a little conversion chart from real time to internet time based on how fast things seem to move. The left side is real time and the right side is internet time

One second- one hour

one minute- twelve hours

Half an hour- one day

an hour- five days

three hours- two weeks

six hours- one month

12 hours- two months

one day- four months

one week- 8 months

one month- three years

one year- ten years.

So what are some of your thoughts on this?

The chart reminds me of Digimon haha.

But seriously though you've a point on the lifespan of something's wotth and significance on the internet. I'd say the only thing things that cement into people's minds would be memes.

Theres so much disposable information to wade through only things that reach a wide audience can last somewhat. But 15 minutes of fame on the internet is even more fleeting than in real life.

Like for example You Dun Goofed and its follow up had me in bits 2 months ago, I'd be giggling like a stoner thinking about it, but now it doesn't get more than a chuckle. But even still it made its mark.

I agree with you 100% Eventually everyone will forget that whole thing and Jessie will get an actual fanbase (sadly). Look at some of her comments, there are actually people who like her videos now (what drugs these people are on I'll never know). That meme is quickly dying off and it feels like it started such a long time ago even though it was only about half a year.

However some memes like fads in the real world seem to last forever. Like the rick roll. It's starting to fade away but it still happens quite often.

You guys are right, this getting kinda crazy if ya ask me, maybe people online just have a short attention span or something.

Partly, but some people can do something for months on end. It's mostly because information things are posted and discovered on the internet so quickly that things seem to pop out of no where.

You are right , internet make our world so fast we got everything so fast that it looks old in minutes, great

yeah, i've been on the site for little over a year, and it feels like i've been on this site my whole life :P
