"And neither you or Mom thought of telling me?" was Vanitas was about to say until Namine interrupted.

 

No doubt the two were making her feel uneasy. They always seemed to do that. Sora and Vanitas rarely were calm around each other. It was something that would be a miracle to happen.

 

"We should get going," he muttered instead. He was still really unhappy about Sora being there. His mood was even fouler than usual.

 

If it was just Namine though he'd probably be a lot happier...

 

Riku sighed happily. Sure they weren't really talking much or anything but he just felt happy. He wondered how Aqua was feeling.

 

Of course Riku felt bad for trying to pursue her. Obviously she was in a relationship with Terra, and even though Riku didn't know the details, he thought she must be happy with him. Otherwise there wouldn't be a them.

 

A close student professor relationship would be good enough for Riku. He didn't want to go butting into her love life.

 

Roxas couldn't believe that was how Axel treated his friends. That was outright rude!

 

Demyx didn't looked fazed at all though and took the key and drove away.

 

Wait what did Axel mean about a date...?

 

He shooked his head and just started heading into the coffee shop.

 

"You coming?" he asked Axel, who'd he left behind.

Namine nodded. She walked up to her navy blue Bentley GT. She got in and rested her head on the wheel. She caught Sora's gaze as he was about to sit in the shotgun and motioned him to go in the backseat. Sora got the idea and smirked after giving her a surprised look. She pulled out her phone and texted him.

 

Sorry. Your brother just seems so nice and sweet...

Nice and sweet? You're kidding right?

Nope. =)

 

Aqua looked back to Riku. She thought about talking about the project that he had to do but stopped herself when the question she really wanted to ask waited to be spoken.

 

"But, why are you here, Riku? You didn't answer my question." She said, smiling.

Axel rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Just making sure he doesn't crash it. That Ferrari is the most precious thing to my heart. Or rather, my wallet. Maybe both."

He smiled and opened the door, waiting for Roxas to step inside.

 

Vanitas was ecstatic. He was just completely happy as he got in the passenger seat, next to Namine. He almost forgot about Sora being there.

 

Vanitas was losing it. Usually Vanitas would've offered to drive them in his own car, even if he absolutely hated it. He would've been embarrassed to have a girl driving him around especially with his brother. But no, he was glad. It was just because it was Namine.

 

Riku wanted to tell her. 'Just because I wanted to see your pretty face again.' Like if she was any other girl he fancied. But the problem lingered. She was his professor. He couldn't tell her that.

 

"You know my habit of being way too early? Well I have a habit of hanging out with my favorite teachers during lunch." He laughed.

 

Of course it was a lie. But she didn't have to know that.

 

Was Axel that materialistic? Surely his car couldn't be that important?

 

"What about your friends and family? Shouldn't they come first? Or at least your girlfriend..."

 

Roxas wasn't sure where that came from. He trailed off and walked inside, taking a seat at the nearest open table.

Namine slowly drove out of the parking lot, making sure not to seem like a bad driver. She put on her favorite song. Fireworks by Katy Perry. It always made her more confident about herself and made her smile. She drove

down the street til they came across a Subway.

 

"Maybe we should eat here. I'm not in the mood for junk food." Namine didn't want to seem like a total fat*ss in front of Vanitas.

Aqua laughed a bit. "Wow Riku. That's a shame. You should be out with your friends having fun! These are the beat years of your life! Go find a lucky girl and spend your time with her or something. Don't sit in her with boring ol' me!" Aqua smiled.

Axel scoffed. "The only friends I have are Demyx, Luxord, and... that's about it... Family, I only have my dad but we don't live together. Oh, and nah. I don't have a girlfried. Don't really have anyone right now."

Axel didn't really like girls but he wasnt about to admit that he was gay to someone he just met.

When Namine put a song on, one that he recognized to be Firework by Katy Perry, he noticed Namine seemed a little less shy. She seemed to perked up, and much more confident, something Vanitas hadn't seen yet. She must of liked that song. Vanitas would try to remember that. Who knew when that bit of info he observed would come in handy?

 

Namine ended up driving by a Subway. "Maybe we should eat here. I'm not in the mood for junk food."

 

"That's fine." Vanitas didn't care where they ate honestly. The last thing on his mind was food. He'd probably just snag a bag of chips or something. He wasn't very hungry, and he couldn't help but feel a little bad since Namine was going to be the paying.

 

"You're far from boring Professor Aqua," Riku laughed a little more. She was right, but why would he go find some other girl when he was infatuated with the one in front of him?

 

"That's a suprise," Roxas said. Wait did he mean that about only having those two for friends or not having a girlfriend? Maybe he meant both.

 

"I'm pretty much in the same boat I guess," Roxas added. "Though I'm pretty happy about being away from my overprotective parents. As for friends... Well, my old friend Namine and I don't talk much anymore, so you could say I'm just stuck with acquaintances, people I talk to when I have nothing better to do." Usually Roxas didn't talk much, especially with new people. But he was just trying to keep the conversation going. Awkward silences were awkward, right?

Namine sighed, rather loudly. She couldn't find a stupid parking space. She spotted one and parked right in front of the entrance. Namine got out of the car since it was starting to drizzle again, much to her disappointment. She didn't want her hair to get wet.

 

"C'mon guys!" She yelled as she stepped into the rain and ran to the entrance.

Sora smiled at his friends goofiness. She worries to much about her appearance. She was about to follow when he remembered that Vanitas was there. He felt really bad about coming. Namine probably regretted it too. He could tell she liked Vanitas and it made her uncomfortable that they fought. But how could he leave them alone..?

Aqua scoffed. "Right. And I suppose you think that Mr.Braig is well-behaved? If I didn't know better, I'd say something was wrong upstairs!" she joked, tapping her temple.

Axel nodded. "Yeah. Dem said on the way to my car that he met a girl named Namine in his Computer class with Xigbar. Man, that guys a pain. He's cool, but a pain." He sat on the table and the waitress came by. This Starbucks was wayyyy over the top.

 

"Oh, right. What would you like Roxas?"

If only Vanitas had brought his jacket. He would've lent it to Namine so she wouldn't have gotten soaked in the rain. It wasn't that bad of a downpour. Barely a drizzle. But still.

 

Vanitas got out of the car and quickly walked to the entrance behind Namine. He turned around when he realized Sora wasn't out of the car yet.

 

"Get over here," he motioned for his younger brother to come along. Usually Vanitas wouldn't have cared but Sora was friends with Namine. He would have to start treating him a little better. But just a little.

 

"Well Mr. Braig is... quite a character. But he can't be all that bad... Oh God, maybe you're right. I'm going crazy," Riku grinned.

 

"I'm not sure if I'll be able to deal with a teacher like Mr. Braig," Roxas sighed. "He seems like an asshole."

 

When the waitress-- wait this Starbucks has waitresses? Wow.

 

"Oh, right. What would you like Roxas?"

 

Roxas wasn't much of a coffee person really. He shrugged.

 

"Whatever is fine. You can order for me if you want," Roxas shurgged. Honestly though, whenever he had been at Starbucks he had never gotten anything. Like he said, not much of a coffee person and he didn't have a sweet tooth either. He really didn't know what was good and what was not.

Sora smiled at his brother and shook his head. He got out of the car, but ran to the other side of the street to the McDonalds. He'd pay for his own meal and let Namine have her day with Vanitas. He pulled out his phone and texted her.

Namine read the text over, making sure she didn't read it wrong. Sora... Oh no... Not alone with Vanitas! She kind of wished for it but now she felt her stomach doing flips. What would she do? What would she say?! She gulped hard and smiled forcefully at him.

 

"I guess your brother doesn't want to eat here..."

Aqua laughed. "Hahaha! Right. You're funny Riku. I like that in a person." Aqua smiled to herself. She started to feel really attached to Riku. Not as just a student but maybe a close friend too. She had never thought of a student that way. Just 'friends' not 'close friends'.

Axel frowned. This guy was being too difficult. He looked at the waitress who happened to give him some batting of the eyelashes but looked back to Roxas.

"Give me two vanilla bean coffees. Oh. And a brownie for the squirt." He snickered.

"That little brat," Vanitas sighed. The little brat he'll have to thank later. He wasn't keen on the fact that his kid brother was going to tag along. But now, he was fine, he wouldn't be completely annoyed by Sora and he'd spend sometime with Namine. Yeah, it was working out nicely.

 

"Me? Funny? Not even close. Charming, yes. Awesome, yes. Funny? No." Slowly it was getting easier to talk to her. Riku felt less tense and nervous as he talked to her more and more and she didn't seem to mind it or annoyeed by him. It was a good sign.

 

Roxas glared at Axel. Okay, he kind of should've been expecting it, but still, what the hell!?

 

"I'm not a kid you know," he snapped when the waitress walked away. "At least I act my age."

"Oh and I suppose I don't? Name three reasons as to why I don't act my age. Oh, and if it's because of my charming and adorable personality, that doesnt count." Axel smirked. He sat back in his chair, awaiting a daring response from the boy.

 

Aqua got up out of her chair and grinned. She walked over to the window and admired the rain for a bit. Then, she turned back to Riku. "Riku? Do you ever think that, maybe, life isn't what it seems to be at first? That sometimes, a certain thing, marks or triggers a new beginning?

 

Namine felt really nervous now. She laughed out a bit to let out the coldness she was holding back to express and turned around, Without knowing, she hit her forehead on the see-through door. She recoiled and put a hand to her forehead.

 

"Ow."

 

HOW COULD SHE BE SO STUPID IN FRONT OF VANITAS? She couldn't help the blush that crept onto her face.

"Yeah because pouring ketchup on your roommate and making him miss his first class is totally charming," Roxas rolled his eyes.

 

Yeah Roxas wasn't ready to let that go. He thought he deserved a proper apology at least.

 

"There's always a beginning to a new adventure. And life is full of them," Riku smiled. He loved the way Aqua thought.

 

Namine blushing would've been adorable. But not so much seeing as she just hit her head.

 

"Hey are you okay?" Vanitas immediately reacted, stepping closer to Namine, trying to make sure she wasn't bleeding.

Axel sighed. Man, just let it slide! It was just a harmless prank! That's what he wanted to say. But surely, that wouldn't get him on Roxas' good side...

 

"Fine." Axel, looked at Roxas with his emerald eyes and gave him an apologetic grin. "I'm sorry, alright? I shouldn't have acted so stupid or childish. I really can be more mature than that."

Aqua cocked her head to the side a bit. "True. Still, it's wierd. How do you know what starts it? It's only when you look back that you realize that moment triggered something greater or worse. Before you came in, I couldn't shake off that uncomfortable feeling I had. But, thank you Riku. You made me feel better."

 

Namine blushed harder. She backed away upon noticing that Vanitas got closer but stopped short because the door was right behind her. She removed her hand from her face and gulped. "Uh, yeah. I'm...I'm fine."

Although she really wasn't... She bruised easily and she could already feel a bump forming on her forehead.

Roxas smiled.

"You're forgiven then."

The blonde was going to give him a second chance, like he said he would do. After all, Roxas had to admit Axel looked adorable (well adorable in that Axel kind of way) when he grinned at him.

 

"What could've I done to make you feel better? All I did was come here to annoy you after all." In reality, Riku was completely overjoyed by Aqua's words. He never wanted to see Aqua sad or in any way upset. So if he could make her feel better, he was grateful.

 

She was so adorable when she blushed... Oh yeah she was hurt!

"We should probably get some ice on that," Vanitas said, slightly touching Namine's forehead. "How bad does it hurt?"

 

Vanitas never really showed genuine concern for anyone. This girl was really messing with his head. And he wasn't even sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Axel smiled. The waitress came by again, setting down the two cups of coffee and leaving. She was already peeved at Axel for not returning her flirtatious actions. Axel just rolled his eyes and looked to his coffee. He picked it up and sighed.

 

"Vanilla bean. My favorite." Axel said, taking a sip.

Aqua chuckled. "Well, if you came to annoy me, your efforts are fruitlessly rewarded." Aqua threw away her trash and sat back in her chair. She looked at the clock. There was about thirty minutes of lunch left. "So what should we talk about, Riku? We have plenty of time left."

Namine flinched at Vanitas' touch. She held his hand and smiled. "Sorry. Your hand is cold..." She held his fingers except the index and middle finger ad put it on the bump. "It just stings a bit there.."

The waitress looked like very pissed off when she came back with the coffee. Roxas was waiting for her to 'accidently' knock it down into Axel's lap, just to piss him off. Instead she left as Axel rolled his eyes at her.

 

What Roxas didn't get is why Axel just brushed her off? She obviously had an interest in him and she wasn't bad looking. She was pretty. Yet, Axel could care less.

 

He reached for his own coffee, taping a sip as well, cringing slightly. It was too hot. The coffee itself was pretty good, but it was too hot to enjoy.

 

"Well we can talk about anything." Riku smiled as he thought. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but how long have you been a professor?"

 

Vanitas stared silently. He never got a real good look at Namine's face before. She was really pretty. Especially her eyes.

 

He didn't realize she got a hold of his hand and retracted it slowly, for some reason feeling a little embarrassed.

 

"Well we could ask if they'd be willing to spare an bag full of ice or something," Vanitas suggested, pointing to the front counter of the Subway.

Axel took another long sip. The temperature was just perfect in his opinion. He looked up from his coffee and noticed Roxas eyeing him. He passed him the brownie that was left on the table and furrowed his eyebrows. "I was wondering... Are you ever going to get that room change?"

Aqua giggled. "No. It's fine. Well, this is my first year teaching in college. I used to teach Art in Destiny High. I figured that since high schoolers seemed pretty mature, it wouldn't be so bad teaching in college."

Namine nodded. "Yeah. We should get some ice. Thanks Vanitas. But don't worry. I'll pay if it costs us anything." Namine pushed the door open and started to take out her white wallet.

Roxas almost forgot about that. He tore a little piece of the brownie off and popped it into his mouth as he thought about his answer. He wondered if Axel would be upset if he did.

"Probably not," Roxas finally answered.

 

"And what got you into teaching?" Riku asked, honestly curious.

 

Vanitas took the liberty of walking front of Namine and basically demanding a bag of ice before she got there.

Of course they gave it to him, no questions and no charge, and he handed it to Namine with a smile.

Axel smiled. "Good. It'd Be a real pain if you did. I hate being alone." Axel had been aloe for most of his life. Like all lowkey rich kids, he had neglective parents that cared more about money than their kid. Soon his mother left his father because of an accused affair with his secretary. It didn't matter to Axel. They were strangers anyway.

Aqua shrugged. "I don't really know. Maybe I got so tired of everyone being stingy with their talents. When I was in high school, I always thought of getting a job as a graphic designer. Y'know, getting paid lots of money. But then I thought about it. I wanted to be able to give back. To give back to the community that made me what I am. I figured out that money isn't everything in this world."

Namine frowned and took the bag of ice. With her free hand, she gave the cashier five dollars. "Vanitas. That wasn't very nice or polite. Be gentle and kind. Nothing bad comes out of it. It makes you feel good too." She turned back to Vanitas and gave him a smile. Then in one quick movement pecked his cheek.

 

"Thank you though."

"Do you hate being alone or feeling lonely?" Roxas suddenly asked. The two words, although alike had very different meanings. Axel? Lonely? Roxas got the impression that the redhead partied all the time, got drunk, ect. You know, that kind of stuff? And he doubted Axel was ever alone. Didn't seem to click. He looked like someone who'd invite people over just to hang out or whatever.

 

In reality Roxas really didn't know what to expect of Axel.

 

"Giving is one of the best things you could do. I learned that from my dad. He taught me everything I know. He even gave free art lessons to the neighborhood kids who couldn't afford him. I've always had a respect for teachers, who enjoyed what they did and gave up their time to teach." Riku shifted in his chair. "Actually, I'm thinking I'll become an Art teacher once I graduate."

 

Vanitas? Nice? The world would end the day that happened, even Vanitas knew that.

 

And it was amazing how Namine was basically his exact opposite, but still managed to make him blush by just kissing his cheek.

 

Maybe he'd try to be a little nicer. But no promises.

Axel frowned. "Well, I kinda don't like being alone sometimes because it just feels too empty. Yeah, I go to parties and stuff but that's just to be with people. Maybe I just want attention." Axel shrugged. "I dunno."

Aqua smiled. "That's very kind of your father Riku. You seem to be a lot like him. I'm really glad you see things the way I do. I usually never talk about these things with anyone so it's kind of nice."

Namine sat down on one of the tables and put the ice pack on her head. After pulling out a ten dollar bill, she motioned for Vanitas to get it.

"You can get anything you want. I'll just have some apple juice."

"Oh I see." Roxas nibbled on the brownie a bit more, his appetite disappearing.

"You want some?" he offered Axel.

 

"What about Terra? I would expect you two talk about everything?" Riku might very well be going into a danger zone, bringing up Terra again, but he was going to risk it.

 

Vanitas got the ten dollar bill, even though he wasn't going to get anything. He paid for a bag chips for himself and the apple juice for Namine, sitting down with her.

"Here," he said, smiling, passing her the change and the juice.

Axel smirked. "Thanks." He cut off a bit and held it, popping it into his mouth. "So, Roxas. Do you know about the dance that's going to happen a month from now? In other words, Winter Formal?"

 

Aqua shook her head. "Terra has his own views. When others try and tell him their way of thinking, he shoots them down and shatters their beliefs. He doesn't like competition. He thinks his way is the right way. Everyone should follow suit. I've seen it happen first-hand." Aqua's voice lowered as she talked about the dark part of her boyfriend.

Namine smiled at Vanitas. She took the juice and laughed a bit. "See? Being nice wasn't so hard, now was it?"

"Winter Formal?" Roxas tried to recall something like

that being mentioned to him before. "Nope, haven't heard of it."

 

Riku should've kept his mouth shut. He saw how Aqua's mood deflated as she talked about the bad side of Terra. All he could mutter was a simple, "Oh."

 

Regular Vanitas would've said "It killed my soul," but he was trying to impress Namine so he merely shrugged.

Axel sipped the last of his coffee. He looked at Roxas. Hadn't they had Winter Formal at his high school? He sighed, puffing out a cloud of hot air. "Well, in a month, girls are gonna get giddy and boys are gonna get cocky. Basically, you ask someone to go with you as adate and you dance. You could also take pictures with them or just sit down with them. I believe this year they're going to have it at Radient Garden. It'll all be set up in the main plaza."

Axel looked out the window, eyeing the rain. "Are you thinking about taking anyone?"

Aqua smiled, rather abruptly. "But its quite alright! I always see past that. I know he has a good heart. He's willing to protect everything he cares about. He hasnt hurt me so I suppose he holds me close to his heart. Fr that, I'm grateful. I mean, I love him. If it wasn't mutual...I dont know what I'd do..."

 

Aqua looked up at Riku. His face was so childlike.Riku's eyes were round ad sparkling, his mouth open just slightly. Aqua thought it looked cute. However, she looked away suddenly. She couldnt think that way of her student! But she couldnt help the blush that escaped.

 

Namine laughed once. She took a sip of her juice and looked down. She once again felt the akwardness of being alone with Vanitas. She decided to bring up a random subject.

 

"So uh....you have Riku in Mr.Braig's class huh? It's funny. I have an old friend in there too. I made another one too. Do you know Roxas or Demyx?"

"I really doubt I'll even go. It just doesn't sound like my kind of thing." Roxas still had a half cup of coffee left, a few bites of the brownie still left. He kept his eyes at the cup, staring at the liquid slowly cooling, wondering why Axel was even asking him about the Winter Formal in the first place.

 

Suspiciously she perked up right after Riku's nonworded reply (Like 'oh' is even a word), and started talking about Terra's good heart and how he's great and ect. This made Riku slightly jealous but he realized she was only doing that because of what she said before.

 

Suddenly she blushed and Riku couldn't help but notice how pretty she looked when she blushed. Though, Riku already silently agreed with himself that she always looked pretty. But the blushing was just cutely charming.

 

"Why are you blushing?" Riku dared to ask, a small smile on his lips.

 

Vanitas swore he heard a gay baby crying in the distance. Awkward silences were much more awkward with Namine.

 

"I actually don't know either. Well personally at least. I just know Demyx as the guy that's also helping us putting together the computers, at Xigbar's request." He rolled his eyes slightly, remembering he'd have to work and give effort later. At least Namine would be there.
