Vanitas shoot Namine's hand, trying not to seem disappointed. "Bye Namine."

 

Once she left Vanitas scowled and smacked Riku on the head, where he didn't have an injury.

 

"What was that for?!"

 

"Because I'm pissed now."

 

Riku laughed.

 

"You really like her, don't you?"

 

"Who said anything about liking her?"

 

"It's obvious."

 

Vanitas scowled again and raised his hand to hit Riku again because he was right. But he stopped.

 

"Whatever. Bye Riku," Vanitas muttered, stomping out of the room.

Namine walked out of the hallways and saw Sora sitting in the waiting room. She smiled and hugged him. She rested her head on his shoulder and sighed.

 

"She's alright... I hope. Riku is okay too. They just got hurt pretty badly.

 

Sora knew how sensitive Namine was. She always overreacted when someone got hurt. Whether it was a friend or stranger, she never hesitated to help them.

 

"Its alright Namine." He started to stroke her back and her blonde hair. "They'll be outta here as soon as possible."

Vanitas walked through the hallways, his shoes squeaking with every step.

 

As he neared the exit of what he called the 'old people smelling white hell' or the hospital, he passed the waiting room. He wouldn't have cared, but he spotted Namine's blonde hair and couldn't help but glance.

 

Not only was he jealous, but he was angry to see Namine's head on Sora's shoulder. Why did his brother have to be close to her? Why did he just have to be that overactive kid that got along with everyone and was basically a much better guy for Namine? He'd kill him. Not literally. But he would. One day...

 

Plotting his brother's demise, he left the hospital.

 

Love really did screw with people's heads.

Sora saw his brother and pulled away from Namine.

 

"My brother was here?" He let go of Namine and walked out of the building. He saw his brother walking away and heading to his car. "Namine! Go say goodbye!" he said, pushing her towards him.

Namine held her ground and blushed. "No! I can't, Sora! He'll... He'll think I'm wierd!!"

 

Sora rolled his eyes. "Vanitas!!" he called.

What the hell did his brother want now? It was bad enough he was all buddy buddy with the girl he liked, but did he have to annoy him on a regular basis like he did for most of their childhood?

 

Vanitas turned, ready to shoot a death glare at Sora, but stopped when he saw Namine was still with him.

 

Instead he said, "What do you want?" walking over to Sora.

Namine fidgeted with the ends of her sleeves. Sora really wasn't doing this... Was he..?!

 

She felt someone push her forward from behind. "Namine wants to say goodbye. Properly, of course." Namine could tell by him tone of voice that Sora was definitely smiling right now.

 

She gulped and walked forward. All of a sudden it felt cold... She huffed out air and a cloud formed. So it wasn't just her...

She took a shy look at Vanitas and in the blink of an eye, wrapped her arms around his waist. He smelled of smoke and soap. A wierd combination but it suited him.

 

"Goodbye."

Vanitas would thank his brother later. If he remembered.

 

Right now he just hugged Namine back, not realizing that he was freezing before. Hugging he Namine he felt, warm and happy.And not just happy like whenever he saw her. But just... It was hard for Vanitas to explain.

 

"Bye," he pulled away and then, without thinking, kissed her forehead before turning to go back to his car.

Namine was left there, totally dumbfounded. He... He kissed her forehead....

In a matter of seconds, her blush on her cheeks grew to cover her face and ears. She hung her head, hiding the blood in her face. She pulled Sora to her car and asked him to frive. She was way to flustered now...

 

She'd thank her friend. Not now. She couldn't even talk.

~ One Week Later ~

 

F*ck. F*ck. F*ck.

The week before, with Riku and Aqua in the hospital, and later learned Xigbar and with Terra in jail, Vanitas had an easy first week. No work and no stupid setting up computers for Xigbar.

But now that he was back, and a new teacher was teaching Vanitas's geography class, he knew they were going to bust his ass to catch up. Well atleast his new teacher. Xigbar might just bitch at him, Namine and Demyx on why they didn't think of doing what he asked while he was getting his jaw fixed.

Vanitas laughed. The asshole got punched by Terra as well. At least Mr. Stronghold did one good thing.

 

Riku had been welcome back to school with cheerful hellos and get well soon cards and ect. He wasn't completely better. Still bruised and sore, but mostly recovered. Aqua was thankfully fully recovered and able to teach and Riku looked forward to her class again. And her. They talked even more during their stay at the hospital.Of course not very much because at times either Aqua was sleeping or Riku was, or Vanitas came to bother Riku or some stupid little annoyances that just kept them from enjoying each others company.

 

He got to class and took his seat, barely getting there on time. He had overslept his first day back and plus, it still hurt to move. Hard to think that a week before he was a half hour early.

 

Xigbar grumbled as he cleaned his classroom. Some students thought it would be funny to trash it while he was on leave to get his jaw fixed which still hurt.

 

He really wished the school board didn't bitch at him to get his ass back to work. He was supposed to have had two weeks to recover, seeing as the first few days he could barely speak, but no the school didn't feel like searching for someone to replace him.

 

"Hate my life..." he muttered, scrubbing spray paint of his desk. Stupid kids...

Namine had hung out with Sora in the front of the school again. The past week had been very uneventful. With Ms. Aqua and Riku in the hospital, her classes were really boring... She hadn't talked that much to Vanitas ever since the day at the hospital either. She felt really bad, but still, the kiss he gave her made her get butterflies everytime she looked at him... She sometimes thought about telling him and confessing, but Vanitas would turn her down coldheartedly...

Aqua started to fix her things. Her first day back in school and students were so nice to her. They had given her chocolates, bears, get well cards, and even balloons. Aqua thought that was really nice of them considering that some of the students she didn't even teach. It amazed how kindhearted the student body was.

 

However, even though she had seen him last yesterday, she really wanted to see Riku. They have had so many wonderful conversations in the hospital. She even met his best friend. A boy with black hair and golden eyes that visited him every once and a while. When he wasn't there, they always had the most interesting conversations.

 

She was really looking forward to seeing him.

Vanitas couldn't help but feel like Namine had been avoiding him the past week. Maybe he shouldn't have kissed her forehead, but it was too late to take it back. He felt more than a little lonely as well. Namine didn't speak to him much and he was too much of a chicken sh*t to start a conversation with her himself.

 

Vanitas didn't realize he had little to no experience with girls. They came on to him. He never was the one to chase a girl, much less well... fall in love at first sight. Yeah, that's what it was. He didn't know Namine well enough, but he wanted to. And he cared for her even if they only barely interacted.

 

Vanitas groaned. Why didn't his stupidnew teacher shut up? Saix was even worse than Terra, as a teacher that is. It was boring lecture after boring lecture with the students scrambling to take notes.

 

Barely five minutes had passed and he was already anxious to go to Xigbar's class. Not for the work obviously. Because of Namine.

 

When would the class end?

 

Riku on the other hand felt as time just passed by too quickly.

 

His Art class and lunch were and would be the two times of day he'd see Aqua. And that wasn't enough. Nope, not even close to enough.

 

But he listened carefully, as Aqua tried to make up for the lost time for having spent that week in the hospital. And Riku was glad to see the students were smart enough not to ask why she had ended up there in the first place. It was pretty easy to put together seeing as they must already know that Terra had been arrested.

 

And they didn't even ask Riku what happened. They probably just assumed Riku just got in the way, trying to be a hero or whatever. But no Riku was no hero. And like Vanitas had said.

 

He wouldn't have done that for just anyone.

 

Roxas never paid attention to gossip. He was the last to learn about why his Geography teacher had been replaced by some other guy, named Saix Isa.

 

Well yeah, he knew Mr. Stronghold had been arresteed for something. Roxas assumed it was possesion of drugs or whatever. It didn't interest him. But he found out apparently because of him, one teacher, his girlfriend wound up in the hospital along with a student.

 

People were really messed up weren't they?

 

Of course, that went for everyone.

 

Like Roxas had hoped, rooming with Axel wasn't as terrible as he thought. The guy wasn't that bad and at least he had someone to spend his lunch with.

 

Though, if he had actually tried to rekindle his friendship with Namine, he'd probably would've hanged out with her and that brunette boy she hanged out with. Why he never did, he didn't know.

 

Maybe he just wanted to give himself an excuse for hanging out with Axel so much and actually enjoying his company.

Namine held her sketchbook tightly. For some reason, she always drew little doodle of Vanitas. It was wierd to her, but nonetheless it made her happy. She had to be careful though. Letting your crushes' best friend see doodles of him could classify you as a stalker. She set it on the table and faced the board.

 

Ms.Aqua's lectures weren't boring. No, not at all. However, it didn't catch her attention. Instead, she looked out of the window and started to count the seconds that went by. She wanted this class to end. Why? So she could go see Vanitas in her next class. Even though it was that creepy Mr.Braig's class, she was just happy that Vanitas was there.

 

Aqua stood in front of the room, barely finishing her lecture. She checked her watch and there were only 10 minutess of class left. Hurriedly, she called Riku, Namine, and Demyx to her desk.

 

They still had to finish that banner.

 

Axel walked sluggishly out of his first period. He was so tired and his head hurt like a b*tch. Besides, no one respected Mr. Even. He was such a pushover so in the last minutes of class, everyone just walked out. He found it funny how Even would yell and scream for them to come back to class, but nobody listened.

 

Quickly, Axel pulled out his cellphone and texted Roxas.

 

I don't think we can meet for lunch today. I think I'm starting to get sick. Sorry.

The girl next to him, Namine, aka Vanitas's major crush, sketched in her book, ignoring the lecture completely. Riku wondered why she seemed so out of it.

 

Eventually she stopped doodling and paid attention, just in time for Aqua to call Riku, Namine and Demyx. Oh yeah the banner...

 

Roxas's phone vibrated.

 

I don't think we can meet for lunch today. I think I'm starting to get sick. Sorry.

 

Crap. Not only would Roxas be alone now but he was actually worried about Axel. He wondered what was wrong.

 

He wouldn't text back just yet. But he would stay with Axel during lunch. Help him get better. That's what Roxas would do.

 

But why did he even care?

"I want you three to work on the banner. Maybe you should meet up today or tomorrow because it's already a week late. You could see each other at a friend's house." Aqua instructed.

 

Namine and Demyx looked at each other.

 

"Is something the matter?" Ms.Aqua asked.

 

"We can't do it today. We have to help Mr.Braig fix the computers since he hasnt been here all last week." Demyx explained.

 

"Ah. I see. Fine. Work on it tomorrow."

 

Axel didnt wait for the bell to ring to run back to his dorm. He was feeling like crap right then. He shoulder hurt like hell carrying his bag and walking was suddenly such a chore. He felt as if his head would explode from all the heat. Even though it was cloudy and damp outside.

 

He opened the door to his room and tossed his bag somewhere. he didn't care where it landed. He just wanted to sleep. Axel got a blanket from his closet and covered himself with it, falling asleep.

Roxas wondered if he should just skip his next class. He didn't want to go to Computer & Technology with stupid Mr. Braig who'd probably isn't in the greatest of moods due to his injury.

 

He eventually did decide to skip. Only to go buy some medicine for Axel. I mean, roommates were suppose to care about each other right? Well at least friends were. And Roxas and Axel were friends... right?

 

Riku looked over to Demyx and Namine.

 

"I could draw up a quick sketch and then we'll meet up tomorrow and discuss changes. So we can at least get started on it," Riku suggested. He really wanted to finish this banner as soon as possible and make it look amazing.

Namine nodded. "Good plan, Riku. Maybe we could talk about the designs at lunch?"

 

With that, the bell rang. The whole class startedto depart with such a ruckus. Namine sighed and decided to rush to her next class. She grabbed her things and waited til Demyx and Riku finished gathering their things. She didn't hesitate to pull their hands and go to Mr. Braig's class.

Aqua smiled as she waved goodbye to all her students. Those three were her favorite kids in all her classes. There wasn't a bunch more adorable or funnier to her.

 

"Bye, guys! Work hard!"

Axel heard the bell ring and groaned. Stupid thing woke him up. He tossed and turned, moaning and groaning. He couldn't find a comfortable postion to sleep again.

Riku really didn't want to give up his lunch to discuss designs for the banner. He wanted to spend it with Aqua. But if he had to he would.

 

"Sure sounds good."

 

Finally. Vanitas basically ran to class. He was just a little too excited to get to class. And yeah it would be odd. And Riku would continue to make fun of him later like he had at the hospital sometimes, asking if Vanitas had asked Namine out yet or what.

 

Truthfully, Vanitas was scared of rejection.

Namine sat down in the class with Demyx, avoiding the eyepatched teacher's gaze. Demyx knew that this guy would definitely scold them about the computers.

 

Also, he'd be pretty pissed at the tagging and destruction caused by his students. Some sort of punishment would be in order. What kind? Just by looking at the guy, he could see the

answer.

 

Buttsex.

 

Demyx laughed at his awesomeness and started to write down the warm-up that Xigbar had written. Namine did the same.

Although, she was just trying to distract herself. Vanitas wasn't in class yet and that worried her. Did he come to school? She'd be really sad if he didn't...

 

She sneakily pulled out her cellphone.

Vanitas looked at his phone.

 

A text from Namine.

 

I'll be in class in a bit

 

He really was just steps away from class. He was the last one arrive and upon walking in, Xigbar immediately turned around to look at him, a pissed off look on his face.

 

Xigbar was still annoyed as he watched his first class of the day pile in his classroom, none of them looking too happy with him being back. He would've at least expected a welcome back from one of his students. He was a little disappointed...

 

Vanitas, that black haired student with an attitude was the last one to walk in and then Xigbar remembered.

 

"Vanitas, Namine and Demyx! Get over here."

Namine and Demyx jumped at Mr.Braig's voice. Sshe slowly got out of her chair and Demyx followed. Before she walked to the desk, she sent a quick text to Vanitas.

 

You had me worried for a second. I thought you wouldn't come today.

 

She quickly put her phone away in her pocket and joined Demyx up at the professor's desk.

 

Demyx didn't want to catch the teachers gaze. He looked straight to the scratch on the desk and locked his gaze there. That man. He'd just make him all flustered like he did last time they saw each other in Ms.Aqua's class.

 

"What do you need, Mr.Braig?" he asked, not looking at him.

Xigbar smirked noticing how embarrased the boy seem. Yes, Demyx was still as cute as the first time he met him.

 

"You guys failed to carry out my request from last week so you'll take care of that today. And I'll make sure to stay with you guys to supervise and make sure you don't vandalize the rest of my stuff." Xigbar smiled, looking at Demyx again. "Is that understood?"

 

While Xigbar seemed momentarily distracted, Vanitas texted back.

 

Why would you be worried?

 

That was the immediate question on his mind. Why would it matter to Namine if he showed up or not? Sure, Vanitas would probably mope if he saw that Namine didn't go to class one day and yes he'd be worried, but surely she had no reason to, right?

Namine's phone buzzed. She hoped Xigbar didn't hear. She quickly pulled out her cellphone.

 

We're friends, right? I'd assume the worst if you didn't come...

 

She stuffed her phone in her pocket and nudged Demyx, signaling him that Xigbar was addressing him.

Demyx jumped and looked into those golden eyes. "Y-yeah. Understood, sir..." He blushed, feeling oddly and utterly embarrassed at himself.

 

He pulled Namine's hand and practically dragged her back to their seats. He put his head down, hiding his blush. Namine just raised an eyebrow and wondered if he was okay. He

looked like he had a fever...

Vanitas walked back to his seat, sneakily taking out his phone and chuckling softly.

 

Of course we're friends.

 

He sat down again, waiting for class to end. He wondered if he could spend it with Namine again. Though Sora would be there...

 

Vanitas wasn't sure why but he pulled out his phone again and texted Namine again.

 

Hey, can I ask you something?

 

No he wasn't going to ask if she liked Sora. No he was going to ask her out. He was too scared to do it in person so might as well ask now.

 

A text reject would be better than a face to face one in Vanitas's opinion.

Demyx pushed himself up off his arms and continued to do the warm up. He didn't want to look at the teacher. Nope.not one bit.

 

He probably had that rapeface on.

 

Namine pulled out her phone. She couldn't see what Vanitas had wrote very well, so she brought it up a little bit higher from her desk.

 

What did he want to ask her..?

 

Yeah. Sure. Go ahead.

Xigbar, while staring at Demyx, observing every detail in his appearance couldn't help but notice something in the hands of the girl next to him.

 

No he wouldn't tolerate it! He stood up suddenly and walked over to Namine, snatching the phone from her hands.

 

"You'll get this back when I feel like giving it back." Yeah that was kind of a d*ck remark, but he was already in a bad mood and he would just not let the students do whatever the hell they wanted.

 

Vanitas couldn't believe it. Just when he got the guts to ask Namine out and was just about to press send, that d-bag Xigbar caught her and took her phone away.

 

Apparently, if he wanted to get anything in life, he'd have to get it the hard way.
