Mikado was left there totally blank. It took him a second to process what had happened. When he did, he put a hand to his ear and blushed madly. "K-KIDA! WAIT!"

 

After his plan of reaching his hand out to grab Kida's failed, he frowned. Mikado ran toward his friend, pushing through crowds of people. This was crazy. Kida was crazy. He, himself, was crazy.

 

The way his heart was beating was crazy...

Kida didn't know what he was feeling, it was a mix between adrenaline, and the rush of an emotion he was to busy laughing to understand. He could hear Mikado calling his name, which meant he wasn't to far behind and was chasing after him. Perfect. He decided to catch a glimpse of Mikado again, turning his head and grinnin to see the raven haired boy still keeping up, only a few feet away. Kida's triumphant laughter was cut short though as he slamme into the door of a building, causing him to tumble backwards and land on his palms, a look of discontent and clear shock on his face as he blinked. How totally uncool...

 

"O-Ow..."

Mikado pushed through one more person and took a step back when he saw Kida fall. Luckily, it didn't look like it was a fatal hit to the head. He kneeled down slowly next to Kida and furrowed his eyebrows. After inching closer to his face, Mikado put a hand around Kida's forehead and smiled apologetically..

 

"Are you okay? You shouldn't run like that. Knowing you, you'd bump into worse things."

Kida blinked, still slightly confused as to what was going on but it became clear that he had ran into a wall and the cool hand at his forehead plus the smile made him gulp slightly before pulled away, letting the skin brush over his barely as he covered up the throbbing pain with a cheerful smile.

 

"Ne, I'll be okay. And it's not like I'll get hit by a car or something. Besides Mikado, we're here." He stated, looking up at the building he had run into.

As Mikado let go of Kida's face, his hands hovered there for a bit, taking in Kida's eyes and playful grin. He was obviously in pain. The way his eyebrow was twitching.

 

He shook his head as he thought. ' Idiot.'

 

"We're here? And what exactly IS here?"

"Well not here here. We have to go inside, duh~ And I'm the stupid one..." Kida teased, wobbling as he got up but regained his balance, opening the door to the building carefully to reveal a room with a single ladder. "Up we go~" He chanted, swinging off the ladder carelessly as he began to climb, eyes set on the opening above. "It's quite the place Mikado. Definitely worth the climb."

Mikado bit his lip. He was terrified of heights....

 

He just told himself he'd look nowhere but up. As he began to climb, he found out that that was a hard thing to do, considering Kida's backside was in his face. Mikado gulped hard and blushed, sucking it up. Worth the climb? He didn't think so... Or maybe he did.

 

He sighed once and said, with a nervous tone, "We better be close, Kida-kun."

Kida smiled to himself, pushing aside something above his head and pulling himself up into the cool air as he came onto the rooftop. You could see almost all of Ikebukuro and the lights of the city like Mikado had wanted but it was an isolated, calm place to talk at. He got up and leaned carefully against the rickety guardrail, letting his blond hair get windswept, his eyes half lidded in content.

 

"I think this is worth it, we're officially here." He turned to look at Mikado over his shoulder, looking at him through his lashes. "Like it?"

Mikado was silent. He saw glittering lights and they pulled him. Like a moth to a flame... With a dazed look, he peered down at the city. All the neon lights amazed him. It seemed croweded when he looked down but when he looked back to Kida, it was Kida and only Kida...

 

"Kida-kun... It's..." Mikado was speechless.

"Nice right? It's my favorite place to be sometimes. Just to get away from the stress." He sighed, tilting his head back to look at the starry sky before closing his golden orbs, throwing his hands up. "Doesn't it make you feel alive?" He asked, the usual Masaomi-esque tone in his voice again. He couldn't help being so out there, he loved the freedom. What could he say, he was a real wild child. Out of the corner of his eye when he opened them he noticed Mikado locking gazes with him. "Hm? Did I say something funny Mikado? Wait, of course I did." He giggled. "I'm just funny by nature of course~!"

Mikado blushed. He decided to get some payback on Kida. Mikado grabbed the collar of Kida's shirt and pulle him close. He slid a hand on his mouth. Mikado whispered in his ear.

 

"Kida-kun? Stop talking all high and mighty...."

Kida blushed considerably, gasping just the slightest bit at the feel of hot breath against his ear. He couldnt help it, he was sensitive to this type of thing. The slightest touches always made him flush. And the innocence of Mikado's words nearly sent him over the edge. Referring to the building of course. He couldn't make a sound as he realized Mikado's attempt for revenge so was forced to sit through it, the heat in his face increasing.

 

"M-Mikado..!" He warned teasingly, his voice muffled by the hand covering his mouth.

Mikado smirked and laughed once. Quickly, he sighed and let go of Kida, slightly pushing him in the process. He smiled an innocent smile and turned to the blonde boy.

 

"I'm only teasing!" He laughed gaze fixated on the neon lights below.

Kida nodded, doing his best to hide his blush from Mikado. That was one hell of a way to tease, though he was one to talk after his stunt before. Still, the slight push away made him a bit startled. He didn't expect that. And he half found himself wanting more of those feather light touches from Mikado. Of course, that was instinct, anyone would...right? Kida swallowed, following his gaze downward and nodded.

 

"Guess I had that one coming to me~" He joked, nudging his friends shoulder.

Mikado laughed. It felt good, laughing with Kida. Just like old times, it seemed.

 

The black haired boy leaned against the rail and looked at the lights adoringly. He thought it was all so amazing. It looked fantastic. Like stars and comets below them. Like they were higher than anything...

 

"I'm jealous of you, Masaomi..."

Kida blinked, looking over at Mikado. Jealous? Of him?

 

"Why?" He asked, half laughing, half serious. He didn't expect that coming from the shy best friend. Kida didn't think Ikebukuro was anything to be envious of. It was...just an overpopulated, polluted, city. "This place isn't anything special."

"But... It's just... beautiful. In my opinion, I'm glad I came..."

He sat down on the concrete looking to the sky now. Why was he so pensive when he was with Kida? If they were friends, they were supposed to have playful conversations about girls or cars or something. Mikado decided to change the subject.

 

"Come. Sit down." he said, motioning to the spot next to him.

Kida looked down at Mikado before nodding, smiling. He sat down on his knees, legs open, next to Mikado, hands resting on the ground as he to looked up. He wasn't used to this, being so surreal and calm with his friends. Normally it was immature talk but this... Was nice.

 

"What's up?" He asked, curious to Mikado's odd behavior.

Mikado let out a small smile.

 

"Nothing, really. It's just that...It feels so good to be around you again, Masaomi. It's been so long... I had almost forgotten what it was like to have a friend. Sorry if I sound cheesy. I'm just saying what's in my heart... After not seeing you for so long, it warms my heart to know that were

friends again."

 

Mikado looked to Kida, longingly.

 

"We're still friends right?"

Kida felt his heart skip a beat, feeling a bit shocked that Mikado would be so doubting and concerned, and for once, Kida was a bit serious.

 

"O-Of course we are! You're my closest friend Mikado! I'd always stay your friend, no matter what! That's because I--" Kida hesitated, thinking his thoughts through. Was he really gonna say...? "That's because I like being your friend." He improvised, swallowing hard. He couldn't believe that he, Kida Masaomi, had lost his cool...

All Mikado could do was smile. "Heh. Thanks, Masaomi."

 

He looked to the sky once more before looking at his watch. 8:30? Oh no... He had to get home... Shyly, he pulled the sleeve of Kida's sweater and looked at him nervously through his lashes.

 

"Kida-kun? Can you...walk me home..?"

Kida smiled, taking Mikado's sleeve and pulling him along to the exit. He couldn't help but laugh, it was cute how his best friend could go from possessive to innocent so quickly.

 

"Of course."

Kida guided Mikado home, stopping in front of his apartment, looking up at it uneasily. The apartment sure looked lonely without anyone there.

 

"So...this is it?"

Mikado eyed his friend curiously. "What? Not extravagant enough for you?" he joked. Mikado let go of Kida's hand and smiled. "Yeah. This is it."

 

He yawned and stretched a bit. When he opened his eyes, he felt a wave of exhaustion come over him. He brought a hand to his face and rubbed his eye.

 

"Man... I didn't know I was so tired..."

Kida gave a weak laugh, shaking his head.

 

"No it's just...will you be okay alone? I don't like the way it looks with you all alone..." He mused, a hint of worry in his voice. There wasn't exactly nice people living in this neighborhood. And he knew plenty who would take advantage of Mikado...It just wasn't safe to him.

 

"Mikado, can I stay the night?"

Mikado raised an eyebrow but then smiled. "Sure, Masaomi."

 

As they ventured into Mikado's home, he motioned to the phone. "Theres the house phone in case you want to inform a relative. Over there is the kitchen if you get hungry. And the bedroom is over there."

 

Mikado reached over to a closet and brought out a blanket and a pillow. He set them on the couch and layed down. "I'll sleep on the couch so you can be more comfortable, alright?"
