My school is having its athletics competition on Tuesday and I pretty much signed myself up for every running event (my house's best runner is injured so I had to take his place). Everyone else is so slack.

Anyway, I was wondering, in America and other countries that don't use meters, what do you call the lap distances?

Instead of 100m sprint do you say 300ft sprint? etc.

Or do you just use meters like in the Olympics?

I believe it's yards... In swimming we did 50 yards, 100 yards, ect. I'm assuming it's the same with track. Not sure.

Yards ey. Does that mean the pools are not Olympic size because 1 yard is smaller than 1 meter?

meh, i honestly don't know why america still uses the imperial system, the whole point of the metric system is that it's easier to use...

but then again, the UK usually uses miles for driving distance and feet for golf and alot of other sports (again, i don't know why)

Probably because the majority of the common people have already learned the imperial system, and to switch to the metric system would cause a lot of confusion. Though, I agree that it would be easier if every one use the same system, and metric would probably be the better choice I wish I understood it better...
