Recently I have been stunned by the increasing false accusations about Anonymous hacking PSN that have been circulating around the Internet. They are INNOCENT! Here is proof.

1. Anonymous has denied taking part in the attacks. Anonymous never acts undercover. When they do somthing they want people to know.

2. Actual money has been stolen. Anonymous has taken personal info in the past but never used it to gain money.

3. This is being done by one hacker. Anonymous attacks in groups, never one.

it's easy to tell anonymous is innocent (btw, money probably wasn't stolen, that data was encrypted).

these accusations weren't made by sony though, it's other people wanting someone to blame for it

Yes this is true. Even Sony recently said it isn't the work of Anon. I wish newfags who just learned who anon is would shut up because they have no idea what they are talking about.

from the playstation blog

Kazuo Hirai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sony Computer Entertainment America said

•We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.”

With the PlayStation Network expected to be back up within a matter of days, Sony's statements to a US House subcommittee seem to point the finger on responsibility back at hacktivist group Anonymous, which initially denied involvement.

Initially? Anonymous still denies involvement which as they said early, is something they wouldn't do if they weren't innocent

PlayStation chief Kazuo Hirai told Congress in a letter that the company was a victim of a sophisticated attack. As part of the hack, a file was planted on the company's servers named "Anonymous" with the words "We Are Legion." He said the company understood the full scope of the attack by April 25, but could not rule out the compromising of credit card data.

The statement seems somewhat at odds with the company's public statements, which up until at least April 29 seemed to suggest that credit card data had not been touched. Regardless of that fact, Hirai said that Sony had not received any reports of fraud that was believed to be connected to the PSN hack.

I'm going to have to call false on this one. This could be a person posing as Anon. Anonymous always launches their raids in groups. This would be more convincing if they found several files with different messages. This is most likely the hacker trying to put the blame on someone else. Because many people think Anon is responsible using them as a scapegoat would be a great option.

Another thing, Anonymous never used the personal information they stole for personal gain but rather as a way to blackmail their targets. Thousands of dollars have been taken from peoples accounts, which has never been done by anonymous. Why? Simply put, anonymous has no membership list, no leadership, or anything regarding their members. If money was stolen they would have to distribute it amongst the people who commenced the attack which would be literally impossible.

Sony's hack is one of several being investigated by the feds, US Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed to Reuters Wednesday.

Sony's hack is one of several! This means there are other, lesser known companies that have been hacked along with Sony. Anonymous has not released any information on recent corporate hacks. Further proving their innocence.

"I am of course aware of the criticism Sony has received for the time taken to disclose information to our customers," Hirai wrote. "I hope you can appreciate the extraordinary nature of the events the company was facing -- brought on by a criminal hacker whose activity was neither immediately nor easily ascertainable."

Nothing good or bad to say about this.

On a somewhat related note, anonymous launches an attack against Neo Nazis. http://anonnews.org/?p=press&a=item&i=896

Do I think this is Anon? I seriously doubt it. Asides from the fact that they've made clear that they won't do anything that harms Sony's customers, they would have to be complete morons to leave an effing CALLING CARD in the servers.

However, this definitely makes me think. Anon probably isn't responsible, but I have a feeling that whoever did this was at least partially inspired by Anon. While I do disagree with what they're doing to Sony, they're not to blame for this.

Well actually, Anonymous takes great pride in their hacks. They want everyone and their dogs to know that Anonymous did this, Anonymous did that. Hell the Iranian government pages they hacked even directly state that Anonymous is the ones that hacked them. And because members of Anonymous do not pick up an identity as well as change their IP address every time they do hack there is no trail of evidence to speak of. But like I said, one file, one message, with no memes along with them is not the work of an Anon raid.

Possibly inspired. Anon has inspired people before and there are plenty of people who take Anons messages the wrong way. Although If the person was inspired, I would think they would at least post once on 4chan, Ebaums, Something Awful, or other websites with a lot of Anons. As we all know Anon is great at finding people no matter how difficult it would be to find them. Odds are if the hacker was inspired by Anon then Anon would of found him. Of course this is all based on the assumption that the hacker did post somewhere which of course may not be the case.
