Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 Review

Posted

By: Ocelot

TMNT has got a reboot and if you're thinking it's going to be like the 80's cartoon you would be wrong it's much darker and gritty world than tthe original book parodied so long ago and tv shows.I am fan of TMNT shows but never got around to reading comics so i can tell you that this is good starting point if you're fan of original comics or tv shows. With that being said lets get to the review.

Spoilers ahead

The comics opens with the turtles and splinter ighting a cat with an eye patch. The Fighting that goes on and it's smooth and gritty. While fight ends Raphael leaves to think by himself. So we go back in time eighteen months eariler where we see the young April O'neil who is now a new intern at stockgen research where she for first time sees spittler and 4 turtles before they got the mutagen that turns them into what they are today. This bit with Apirl is nice and gets you to know the characters and how they get there names. There's ton of nice references to the past history of TMNT in this issue like Gerenal Krang and Rapheal seeing a cowabunga shirt and says "oh now that's just wrong" and other things. It's nice for comic to reward fans of TMNT with nice touches like that so it's good for both new and old TMNT fans.

So back to story Gerneral Krang is talking to Doctor Stockman about how he wants his mutagen to create super soilders to help him win the war he is fighting. We go back to April where she names Turtles and we see how much she likes them but not splinter and we also learn where the named splinter comes from which is a nice break from the action and have simple story being done that does not feel like cash grab.We now go to present day where Rapheal hears a father beating up on his son named Casey remember the name Casey we will see him later on in this series. So we see Rapheal challenge the father to fight because he doesn't like bullys which is where the comics ends.

Closing Comments

The art is slick and feels right at home but it's not perect which is fine. Also take note dc this is how you reboot a series it repects both new and old reader while putting new spin on a known tale with alot neat references which i loved. The Comic tells good origin story but gives you plenty of action and good character pieces. If you're fan of TMNT you should defenity pick this up it's great.Lastly the pacing is nice and never feels like it draging on.So with that being said i give

TMNT #1: 8.5 out 10
