Trying to remember what it's called...

Posted

Okay, I need help, especially from those of you who might be old enough to remember this movie (I can't remember if it came out in the late 90's or early 2000's). There was this made-for-TV Christmas movie (I think it aired on ABC), and I can't remember its title. It aired at least a couple of Christmases in a row, and it was really cute. Here's the basic plot (as far as I remember):

There's this teenage guy living in an orphanage or a foster home (I think he was blonde), and one thing he does in this orphanage is help take care of all the babies. If I remember correctly, the movie opens with this kid changing several babies' diapers. :P

One day, there's a couple who wants to adopt one of the baby boys from the orphanage (they already have a little girl, and they want her to have a little brother, I guess), and the teenager is told to "deliver" the baby to them. He gets to the airport, carrying the baby in one of those car seat things for infants (with a blanket over it, so you couldn't immediately see the baby), and while he's there, he puts the baby's car seat down for just a few seconds, next to another car seat with a little girl's baby doll inside. He gets distracted and accidentally picks up the seat with the baby doll instead of the seat with the real baby. He doesn't discover his mistake until his plane has been in the air for a while, and then he freaks out.

Meanwhile, the little girl who had the baby doll is telling her mom how her doll turned into a real baby, and her mom doesn't believe her. Then she, um, to be appropriate, informs her mom that it's a baby boy, and the mom looks and freaks out. xD

When the teenager arrives and the couple finds out his mistake, they are furious at him, especially the dad. I can't remember how, but the orphanage ends up getting the baby back, and they work to make arrangements to get the baby to the family by Christmas, but the teenager has to stay with the family for a few weeks while everything is worked out. The little girl in the family decides she likes the teenage boy right away, and the mom starts to warm up to him, but the dad hates him because he’s clumsy and screws everything up, besides just the mishap with the baby. While he’s staying with the family, there’s a sad conversation or two about how he’s never belonged to a real family, as he lost his when he was really little.

One of the really memorable scenes in the movie is one with the traditional Nativity skit in church. The boy is involved in it because the daughter asked him to, I think, and he plays one of the three wise men. He messes the whole skit up. Sadly, I can’t remember how, but I just remember it was really funny (and no, I’m not mixing this up with Simon Birch).

When it’s almost time for the teenage boy to go back to the orphanage, the daughter gets really sad, because she’s come to believe that he was the one her parents meant to adopt, instead of a baby she’s never even met. And then, by the end of the movie, the parents end up adopting both the baby and the teenage boy, and they all live happily ever after. :P

*deep breath* Sorry that was such a long description. So, does anybody remember this movie? If so, do you remember what it’s called? I really, really want to know, so I can try to watch it again! Thanks in advance! :)
