Land of Departure can be in the Realm of Sleep, but not like all of you are thinking. Okay, we know that Land of Departure can change into Castle Oblivion with Eraqus' Keyblade trick. But what if this was more than just a physical transformation? Instead, think of them as two sides of the same coin and they can't exist without the other. One is awake (Castle Oblivion) and the other stays in sleep (Land of Departure) until the switch occurs again. Young Xehanort could be looking for the Land of Departure in the Realm of Sleep because since you could free worlds in sleep with the Keyblade, he can switch Castle Oblivion and Land of Departure without Aqua's help, but in the Realm of Sleep. Then, he could just go to the Realm of Light, go to Land of Departure, and retrieve Ven to probably form the X-Blade again or something.
