So, I have been having some troubles with the Link Portals and the fact that I am unable to take any spirits out of my party once they are in there, unless I switch them with another spirit. Anyways, I want to try and make myself one of the bigger spirits, elephant, t-rex or triceratops, but the items that I need only seem to be from the link portal events. But I can't seem to initiate the events any more. It was fine when I only had one spirit in my party, but now that I have two or three, it does not show up at all. When I try to take off a spirit from my party I get an error message that says that I cannot take them out (別れことができません). I have tried this also out in the world, but I get the same message. Nevertheless, I am not sure if this is the problem I am having with the link portals or not, but it was only since getting the second character that I was unable to do the portals.

Anyways, any help is appreciated. If you could put in a few Japanese keywords in the explanation, it would help since I really need to work on my kanji.

I have the game and have beaten it on proud and critical mode already. you shouldnt worry about the party memebers, but once you have 3 of the spirits inserted there is no way for you to take them out, but its for your benefit since if you level them up and get them more link points they will help you unlock abilities for sora/riku. as for dream pieces you just find them as you go. most time you find the needed pieces dropped from that certain dream eater, but some are rarer then others. also you can get even rarer dream pieces from the special portal events(these are the ones that have the "special" pink portal sign on them). hope this helps!

Thanks xig28. I was able to figure out how to get the portals to work again. Aparently they don't if you are zoomed out on the map. I guess it helps to actually read the instructions. I finally found the items I needed for the elephant thanks to the portals. Thanks again.

Yeah, I made the same mistake, and was baffled as to why they wouldn't seem to activate. Felt like a idiot after I figured out I had to zoom in
