Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"No," Lightning said quietly. Prolonging the inevitable wasn't going to help her. And besides that... "Serah needs me." Serah knew the truth of Cedric now, and she wasn't taking it very well. She was very bubbly and cheery today to distract herself from the pain, but once they were back in the quiet castle, Lightning predicted she'd fall apart.

"Alright then," Riku said with a faint nod. He approached Lightning and held out his accessories to her. "Hold onto these for me." He was going to give her a ride back to the ship in the same manner that they left it: on his back. It was becoming the norm for them.

Lightning accepted Riku's accessories, holding onto them in one hand. She set the other on Riku's shoulder when he bent down and picked her up, the girl on his back within moments. The pain in her legs seemed dull, but only because of the pain in her heart. She didn't want to go back; she didn't want to be trapped in that chair. She wanted to be free...of everything.

Kairi stepped off the ship with Sora, the two of them hand in hand. The necklace he gave her really did help her to forgive him for not picking her, not that she was offended in the first place. Regardless, she looked behind her to the others as they descended the ship. "Goodnight, guys!" she called with a smile. They were in the Gummi Hangar, and the only way out was through the gardens. As she and Sora started climbing the stairs, Kairi stifled a yawn. Flying was exhausting, as fun as it had been.

Roxas witnessed Sora, Kairi, Aqua and Ven head off in front of him, but his attention was elsewhere. He still had his day's treasure in his pocket: a lilac purple shell necklace. As if he would need it for himself... "Hey, Namine?" he called, turning around to face her as he slowed to a stop.

Namine had been talking to Serah, but when Roxas called her name, her attention turned to him. Riku carried Lightning on by, Serah joining them, which left Roxas and Namine alone. That made Namine nervous. "Hm?" she hummed softly in question. Did Roxas want to talk about something? Hopefully it wasn't her neediness during today's flight.

"I, um..." Roxas tried, surprised at his sudden nervousness. Thankfully the hangar wasn't too well lit, so Namine probably couldn't see his blush. "I thought...this would look better on you than it would on me." He held out the necklace for her, inwardly scolding himself for saying something that lame when giving a gift.

Namine was confused at first with what Roxas said, but when she finally got a good look at the necklace, she blinked. "Roxas..." she said softly, accepting the necklace with gentle fingers. It was a necklace made by mermaids, wasn't it? Like Kairi's.

Roxas smiled, both nervously and sheepishly. "You seemed to like that one..." They were in the same group and naturally together when they found their treasure, so of course he noticed how she looked at the necklaces. Sora gave one to Kairi immediately, but Roxas didn't want to put her on the spot back then, so he waited.

Namine couldn't help but smile, looking from the necklace to Roxas. "...Thank you," she said, blushing a little. She really did like this necklace when they found it, but she never claimed it. The fact that Roxas kept it for her... It was really sweet.

Roxas smiled slightly, nodding to Namine's gratitude. He turned away after a second, putting his hands in his pockets as he started up the stairs. He guessed that was it, then. It was a long day, so it was time to rest up, though he doubted he would get much rest again just because of Namine's smile.

Namine watched Roxas walk, but only a few short seconds passed before she stopped him. "Roxas, wait," she called softly, taking a step forward. Today had been...remarkable. She owed a lot of it to him, since he helped her fly. She would never forget something like that.

Roxas gladly stopped at Namine's voice, the blond turning himself around to look at her. "What's up?" he asked casually. He didn't have a clue why she would be stopping him, but he certainly didn't mind being graced by her presence for a few more seconds.

Namine gazed at Roxas for a moment, stunned by his good looks once more. But she glanced at the necklace and started forward, making her feet move despite her nervousness with her next objective. But...Roxas deserved a better thank you than the one she just gave him. The necklace was beautiful, and he was wonderful for everything he did for her. After all she'd done, she didn't believe she deserved it, but he made her feel worthy.

Roxas kept his eyes on Namine, hers having locked onto his since the moment he turned around to meet her. What is she...? he thought, though he felt like he already knew the answer. The way that she was coming at him with the slight nervousness but confidence at the same time...it reminded him of himself and an act that he did in the past.

Namine stopped in front of Roxas, looking up at him from her shorter height. He seemed content with her being close, and that made her more comfortable with her next move. She lifted her free hand, the other holding the necklace, and cupped Roxas's face before she pushed herself onto her tiptoes. Namine placed a gentle kiss to Roxas's other cheek, her heart thumping wildly against her chest all the while. After a small moment, she retreated, taking her hand back as well. That was a more deserving show of gratitude.

Roxas blushed at the kiss, and Namine's hand on his cheek while she did it. "That for a necklace, huh?" he inquired, giving a slight chuckle out of nervousness. He wasn't used to feeling so shy. It was so different when you were on the receiving end of the kiss--It was more intense to know somebody cared enough to give you a kiss.

Namine smiled softly. "Not just the necklace," she said, looking up at the boy before her. "For everything." He took care of her, defended her, and made her feel good about herself, even when it was hard. He was a great person, and he deserved to know that. If a kiss to the cheek worked, wonderful. She hoped Roxas knew how important he was to her, even if they were only friends.

"Everything?" Roxas repeated in confusion. What else did he do that warranted such a thanks? He tried to think, but he could hardly compose a logical thought with Namine standing so close and looking at him like that.

Namine nodded slightly. "...For being there whenever I needed you," she explained quietly. "For protecting me...and being my friend." She glanced down at the necklace in her hands, but the gratitude was for more than just the material things, like the jewelry. "...For making me feel worthy of it all." Roxas made her feel like a good person, even if she did bad things in the past. He guided her when she was lost, and helped her when she was in need. Roxas was...amazing.

Roxas's cheeks grew redder with every compliment Namine gave him. He did all that? When? How? But instead of asking her for further clarification, he nodded his head softly. "You're welcome," he said quietly. He was glad to make her feel happy and safe and worthy, even if he was a lousy protector.

Namine's smile grew a little, and she gazed at Roxas for a moment in silence. It was time they headed on to bed, and she wasn't sure if Roxas was going to escort her to her room or not. It didn't matter if he did, but Namine knew she wouldn't fall asleep very easily tonight. Roxas would be on her mind all night. Namine lowered her gaze and stepped past Roxas to reach the stairs, that way she could reach her room. It was going to be a long night.

A Few Days Later

"Gotta find him," Serah panted as she sprinted down the hallway. "Gotta find him..." She was looking for Riku, naturally. The two of them struck up a conversation a few days ago (the day after they came back from Neverland) about Lightning's condition. Serah told him boldly that she didn't think Lightning's pain was in her head. Lightning was so strong psychologically that it didn't make sense for the pain to be in her head. So Riku started searching for a cure in the library's books, keeping it a secret from Lightning so they didn't get her hopes up. Riku still spent plenty of time with Lightning, but when he wasn't with her, he was in the library. That must have been where he was now... "Riku!" she cried, shoving the doors open as she burst into the library. There he was, at one of the tables.

Riku's head turned sharply at the outburst, and he rose to his feet instantly. "What's wrong?" he asked, alarmed. Serah was never one to panic, so why was she now? Was it Lightning? Was she alright? What could have happened to make Serah worry so much?

"Lightning," Serah said, approaching Riku's table. She set her hands down on it, dipping her head slightly as she caught her breath. "She's...the pain is..." It was so bad that Lightning couldn't hide it anymore. She hinted it kept getting worse, but to think it was working up to being this bad. She was almost throwing up, that was how bad the pain was. Serah was scared.
