Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Eventually, even Kairi and Namine got coaxed into the pool. Then Sora and Riku, being as competitive as they were, wanted to face off in volleyball. The teams were made, though it was an interesting mix. Sora had Lightning, Serah, Roxas and Aqua, while Riku had Kairi, Namine, and Ven. Sora was sad that Kairi wasn't on his team, but that didn't mean he would show her mercy.

Riku held the volleyball in hand, twirling it around in his palm. "Ready?" he called from his side of the pool. He heard Aqua yell her response for Sora's team, and Riku threw the ball up in the air before serving it with an overhand hit. It went soaring over the net to Sora's side, and the game began. While most of the girls were extremely competitive, Riku knew the moment he picked Namine that she was going to be a little more reserved and hesitant. That was alright, though; he would help her out.

"Mine!" Roxas called, wading forward a step before he returned it. However, his hit was purposeful and well directed. It was a soft hit that was aimed for Namine. He...wanted to play with her, specifically. So she had to hit the ball at least once before the match was over.

"Got it!" Namine called, taking a step back and lifting her hands. She set the ball with her fingertips, something easily done considering how gently the ball was sent in her direction. She set it up for Kairi, who jumped and spiked the ball over the net. Aqua, light as ever on her feet (even in water), dove and got the ball easily.

Roxas cheered as his team scored their final point. The game was fairly close: 17 to 21 in the end. But his team was just more athletic than Riku's team was. He collapsed onto his back in the water, hearing Sora high-five Aqua in victory. That was a ton of fun, and he even got Namine to hit it a few times. He wondered if she realized he hit it towards her on purpose...

Kairi pouted as soon as the final point was scored, and Namine rubbed her forehead. She took a hit to the head once when Sora spiked the ball, but she got over it quickly. She wouldn't be the person who cried from a ball; she recovered as she looked to her teammates. Sorry. One of those final points was her fault.

"Nice game, guys," Ven called over to the other team, setting a hand on Namine's shoulder as he did so. It's okay, he silently told her. She didn't cost them the game. In fact, she was really good for their team, even after she took the ball to the head. He was just glad they could all have fun together after all that happened.

Namine looked over to Ven when he set his hand on her shoulder. She nodded to him at his expression, smiling weakly. It was just bad luck on her part that she got hit in the head, but at least the headache wasn't that bad. Now that the game was over, she was curious as to what they were going to do. It was beautiful out, and the water felt great. Would they still stay in the pool?

When Ven spoke of another game, Roxas sat up and shook his head. "I'm takin' a breather," he said, setting his hands on the edge of the pool as he brought himself out of it. The game was great, but he wanted to lay in the sun for a while. Maybe if he was lucky, Namine would join him.

"Me too," Namine agreed, smiling sheepishly. All of her friends knew why: that hit to the head. She still had a faint headache from it, since it only happened a few minutes ago. She caught a few nods before she made her way to the ladder, climbing out as water dripped from her suit and the tips of her hair. She glanced over at Roxas, who wasn't too far from her chair.

Roxas faintly noticed Lightning say she was taking a break from the pool too, but he was more focused on Namine. He figured she'd have a headache from Sora's spike. He summoned a Keyblade to his side, silently casting a Cure spell that would take Namine's headache away.

Namine's walk faltered when she felt a cooling sensation wash over her, and she turned her head, eyes finding Roxas immediately. They locked gazes, and all she could do was stare at him. He had the Keyblade out... He was the one who healed her. And on top of that courtesy, he was handsome. His training had done him good; not only was he a stronger wielder, but he was stronger in general. His arms were bigger, his chest more defined. He looked great.

Roxas smiled sheepishly, realizing he was caught in the act. He meant to heal her subtly, just because he wanted to make her feel better, not because he wanted credit for anything. But the job was done, so he sent his Keyblade away and reached for his towel, ruffling his spiky hair with it to get it more dry.

Namine felt herself blush, and she retrieved her towel before gathering her courage. She went over to Roxas's position and lowered herself to sit next to him, her towel around her shoulders as her hair remained damp from the water. She looked from her friends to him, her cheeks still warm. Did Roxas...really like her?

Roxas looked over at Namine, automatically blushing at the expression on her face. But then again, everything about her made him blush. "You know, that header of yours almost made it back over," he joked to break the tension. It was a shame that it didn't go high enough to make it over the net when it hit her head.

Namine giggled lightly. "Almost," she emphasized. Sora hadn't hit it hard enough for it to go over the net, but it was a hard hit. It would have been a nice contribution for her team if her injury came with a bonus. Even if her team didn't get the bonus, she did; she was talking to Roxas now.

"Guess you're not as hardheaded as the rest of us," Roxas joked, lifting a hand and setting it atop Namine's blonde head. The movement felt surprisingly natural, like this conversation did. Maybe it was time he stopped trying to do what Sora and Riku did and just be himself.

Namine blinked slowly at the hand atop her head, Roxas's palm warm in contrast to the water that cooled her head. Her eyes rested on Roxas, her smile natural, like it usually was. "I guess not," she agreed softly. "But you're not so bad." Roxas wasn't hardheaded, not as bad as Riku or Lightning. Or Kairi. They were the worst.

"Well thanks," Roxas said with a small smile, his hand hesitantly leaving Namine's head. He wanted to keep it there for longer, but it would have been unnatural for where they were now. He still had his goal of getting stronger, and once he met that, he'd feel worthy of asking Namine to date him.

Namine looked from Roxas's hand to his blue eyes, the ones that captivated her from the moment she met him. "I should be thanking you," she said in response. "For the...head...thing." He didn't have to waste his magic like that, but she knew Roxas; it wasn't a waste in that case.

"Oh, that?" Roxas shrugged. "That's no big deal."  It really wasn't; it didn't take much magic and he had no other use for magic today anyway. Besides, having a headache with the sun glaring off the pool would have been horrible; he wanted to save her from some pain.

"And the passes during the game?" Namine asked, smiling faintly. She knew those were set up. Roxas didn't frequently pass it to his teammates; he sent it over to her. It was...sweet. Roxas was kind lately, a lot better than he was in the past; but that was Namine's fault. If she hadn't messed up the first time, Roxas would have been this way all the time--the person he was meant to be.

Roxas looked away, smiling sheepishly. "You caught that, huh?" He shouldn't have been surprised--After all, Namine was smart. And he wasn't overly subtle with the passes either, because he wanted her to be prepared for it to come to her.

"Mm," Namine hummed, eyes leaving Roxas to watch the current game. So it wasn't just something she thought in her head; Roxas just confirmed it. That made her...nervous, and shy. Did Roxas mean what he said the other night? Did he...like her like that?

"I was bummed we weren't put on the same team," Roxas confessed, following Namine's gaze to the new game. "I thought we might have made a good team." They were together before, when they were looking for treasure in Neverland, but it wasn't the same.
