Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Light returned to the living room, wearing clothes that actually fit her pretty well. Black yoga pants and a white, slightly fuzzy sweater with a small V-neck. It was cozy and made her look nice, though Kairi probably brought her the clothes mostly because they were her size. She heard Sora tell Kairi that he loved her, and she noticed Serah gushing at their cute romance. Oh boy, she's a hopeless romantic.

"Love you too," Kairi called, smiling at Sora for another moment before her eyes went to Lightning. She was happy to see that the clothes fit, and she would have said something, but she had to focus back on the hot chocolate she was making. At least Lightning would be warmer now. Kairi couldn't say the same for Riku.
Sora looked up at Lightning when he noticed that she was back in the room, and then he was reminded of something. "Oh yeah, Riku," he said, turning his attention to his best friend. "You left a pair of sweatpants here a long time ago." He didn't remember the occasion, but they were left here nevertheless. "They're on my bed with a shirt if you wanna change."

Riku nodded, rising from his seat. "Thanks, buddy," he said to his best friend. He glanced at Lightning as he passed her, but otherwise kept going. He was surprised that Kairi's clothes fit her, since Lightning was a little bit taller, but Kairi always did appreciate sweatpants in a size larger. Riku disappeared into Sora and Kairi's room, seeing the pair of sweatpants he forgot to take home. Works for me.
Lightning sat down on the couch next to the spot Riku had been before, noticing that it was wet from his jeans. He could take that seat again; she wouldn't be falling into that trap. She brought her legs up to her chest, and wrapped her arms around them, adopting a surprisingly casual position. But...she felt at home here, with these people. Her friends.

Riku was thankful Sora had at least one big sweatshirt, slipping it on over his bare chest. His shirt was unfortunately soaked from all the snow he got shoved in his coat, so he was stuck with just the sweats and the sweatshirt. Regardless, he joined his friends in the living room, already smelling the hot chocolate. It was almost ready.
Lightning rolled her eyes at the story Sora was telling to Serah and Noel, the young man greatly exaggerating everything that happened when they played in the snow. He wasn't doing it in one person's favor, either. Whenever something dramatic happened, he exaggerated. The whole snowman toppled onto Lightning. Riku was swarmed by thirty children. Silly little things like that.

Kairi only shook her head at the stories her husband was telling. When there was a brief break in the story-telling, she spoke. "Drinks are ready!" she called. There were six mugs set out for everyone; she couldn't carry them all. She jumped a little when Noel was suddenly right beside her, and she placed a hand on his shoulder. Gosh, he was quiet sometimes.

"Thanks, Kairi!" Noel said, grabbing two mugs. One for him, the other for Serah. He started out of the kitchen and back into the living room, nearly colliding with Riku. "Sorry!" While Riku simply shook his head at him, Noel returned to Serah.

Serah smiled at her friend, accepting the mug with ease. "Such a gentleman," she cooed a bit flirtatiously, her eyes dancing up to Noel's again. The flirting caused Lightning to hesitate getting up from her seat. Serah was only fourteen; she realized that and accepted it. But that didn't change her feelings for Noel. He was a good guy. "Thanks, Noel."

"Anytime," Noel said, sitting on the arm of the couch next to Serah's seat. Lately, they had been attached at the hip. Not that he minded. Lightning, on the other hand, probably would. But who was she to talk? She and Riku had been inseparable since....well, a while. The incident would have pulled any other two people apart, but it seemed to bring Riku and Lightning closer together. Fourteen or not, Noel could see that.
I'll have to talk to her later, Lightning decided of Serah. She certainly wasn't about to do it now. Since she wasn't sure if Riku was getting her hot chocolate or not, she rose to her feet to get her own. It was better to act like you had to do it yourself rather than expect it to be done for you and be disappointed. That was her philosophy on the matter, anyway.

Riku was currently talking to Sora and Kairi, the former smart enough not to sit around and wait for his drink to be brought to him. Kairi wasn't a servant, and that was what they were talking about now: the reasons why the two got married. Riku chuckled a little when Kairi tried to stand up for Sora, only to make him look more pathetic. But it was all in good fun.
"No compassion for even your best friend, huh?" Light asked, stepping up beside Riku at the counter where four mugs of hot chocolate sat. She had heard Riku taunting Sora, so that emphasized that Lightning was nothing special when Riku taunted her mercilessly as well. But then again, maybe it proved she was special. She was special enough to be treated like his best friend.

Riku looked over at Lightning, naturally lifting a hand and squeezing her shoulder. "He's used to it," he said in his own defense, then looking to Sora. Riku wasn't too compassionate anyways...or at least, he wasn't before. Some people had the ability to change others, and he had a feeling that happened to him...with Lightning.
"Still, Lightning has a point," Sora said with a crooked smile. "A little more compassion would be nice. You'll need to empathize with people someday, so you may as well start practicing now." He lifted the mug of hot chocolate, taking a sip of it. Whether Riku realized it or not, he changed in the past few months. He was more careful with his words and actions than before.

"Would you rather have that be your Christmas gift this year?" Riku asked, lifting an eyebrow slightly. He already had Sora's gift bought and wrapped up. But he could take it back if he had to. Sora knew Riku had money, so it was assumed the gift was nice. Regardless, if Sora preferred compassion this year, Riku would do that instead. It was cheaper, at least.
"I'd like to have both, but I know you're too stingy for that," Sora said with the same smirk. "You should work on that too. Ask Santa for compassion and generosity. It'd make the rest of us happier." He was thankful he was standing on the other side of the counter, because then Riku couldn't smack him. Besides, he wouldn't do it while Sora was still holding his hot chocolate.

Kairi put a hand on her husband's upper arm, smiling at Riku faintly. "What Sora means to say, Riku, is that we all love you just the way you are," she said softly. "Don't change who you are for us. Change for yourself." He smiled crookedly at her once she was done, and she knew that he was accepting her words. Good. He didn't need to change for anyone. Besides, Kairi was certain Lightning liked Riku for who he was.
"You're too nice, Kai," Sora scolded his wife lovingly. She completely twisted his words, not that Riku would have been offended by them in the first place. Riku didn't take that kind of stuff to heart, especially not when it was obvious Sora was joking. The two of them rarely held grudges against each other, which was why this situation with Ashe was so heated.

"Maybe I am," Kairi said, looking over at the man she loved. "But I'm still Riku's favorite." She heard Riku instantly start laughing, and she looked at her husband sheepishly. She doubted Riku had favorites, but she had to pull that one on Sora. She couldn't resist, not when the atmosphere was so light-hearted.
"Only because you give him food," Sora teased right back, lifting his free hand and ruffling Kairi's hair lightly. Kairi was an amazing cook, baker, and beverage creator (at least with hot chocolates and teas). And she always made it a point to share with Riku, since he was the third member of their trio. He was part of the family.

Kairi giggled lightly at the gesture, lifting a hand and playfully pushing Sora's hand away before she ran her hand through her hair to clean it up. What Sora said was true; Riku did come over for dinner a lot in the past, but not anymore. It was kind of disappointing, but at the same time, she and Sora got more alone time. It was nice...and it was nice for Riku, since he had Lightning now.
"We got you figured out, Riku," Sora said with a smirk, seeing Lightning still standing quietly beside Riku and sipping her hot chocolate. Though he couldn't see her lips to see if she was smiling, he believed he saw amusement in her eyes. Then again, he could have been wrong. Lightning wasn't exactly the easiest person to read.

"About time," Riku said with a small eye roll. He held his mug of hot chocolate in one hand, the other finally leaving Lightning's shoulder to rest on the counter. "It took you two eighteen years." They had been best friends forever, for as long as he could remember. They were practically family, something all three of them were okay with.

Kairi took her mug away from her lips, glancing from Riku to Lightning. "Let's hope it doesn't take Lightning that long," she said softly, hinting at what she hoped to happen between the two. Riku and Lightning were close; it as obvious in their body language. She just hoped nothing like the Ashe incident would screw that up.

Lightning understood what Kairi was saying; it was pretty obvious. Yeesh, was it that obvious to everyone? Regardless, she looked at the redhead and her husband. "I think I'll be fine," she said, her eyes going to the brunet. "Riku seems to imply that I'm smarter than Sora. But then again...he implies a lot of people are." Her lips turned up in a taunting smile when Sora protested with an offended "hey!"
