Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku chuckled alongside Kairi, loving the fact that Lightning had the humor that was necessary with his friends. He looked over at her as his laughter died down. That's my girl, he thought. But...he was surprised at the thought. He didn't show it, though; that would have been bad. Instead, his small smile remained.
"So not cool," Sora groaned, looking from Lightning to Riku. "You trained her to be against me, didn't you?" He couldn't believe that Lightning came up with that comment all by herself; she was always so serious and seemed to have little humor. But in reality, she could crack remarks like that when she was comfortable with people. Sora and Kairi were a part of that small group now.

Riku shrugged a little, not replying verbally. Maybe he had a little influence on Lightning's thoughts about Sora, but he was sure they were good things. The wisecracks were her own doing. Even if Riku dealt them every so often too.
"Not cool," Sora repeated with a sigh. "I'm going to my happy chair." He walked past his group of friends, sitting down in his chair and seeing Noel already flicking through the channels on TV. Of course he would be the one to make himself right at home. At least he was wise enough to leave it on sports when that came up. Time to watch some blitzball.

Kairi watched Sora go, but then she looked to her two friends across from her. "Welcome to the family, Lightning," she said, sending the girl a small wink before passing her and Riku to get to Sora's happy chair as well. There weren't enough seats for everyone, so she and Sora would share.
Lightning blinked in surprise, feeling her cheeks grow warm as Kairi walked past. Kairi just called her...family. Serah was her only family--literally. No aunts or uncles, no grandparents, no nothing. But Kairi just invited her into the special relationship that she, Sora, and Riku had. She smiled faintly, looking down to the ground as she lifted a hand to the back of her head. Family. Huh.

Riku saw the way Lightning shyly reacted to Kairi's words, and while he was startled by them as well, he could understand what Kairi meant. To be able to pick on Sora so comfortably, you had to be family. Clearly Lightning had been missing from their small group. But by the way Noel was growing so close to Serah, he guessed both Farron sisters were missing from their "family." Riku lifted a hand to Lightning's back. "Apparently Kairi's jumping to conclusions," he said softly. He was taking a different turn on the word "family" and twisting it to revolve around their relationship. They were "dating" after all.
Light looked over at Riku, lowering her hand back to her side as she looked up at Riku with confused eyes. "Huh?" she asked dumbly. ...Did Kairi not mean it the way that she took it? Was it just a tease and nothing more? If it was...she would have been a bit sad. She was beginning to like the idea that she didn't need to be alone.

Riku smirked a little, seeing the way Lightning's face fell. "She meant it how you think she did," he assured her. "I was just making a joke." Apparently Lightning didn't get it, so it was nothing to worry about. He would just forget he made it.
Lightning felt caught off guard with how easily Riku read her. She wasn't used to that at all. She glanced away in embarrassment, trying to recover. "What was the joke?" she asked before taking a sip of the hot chocolate. She pretended to let the heat of the drink make her cheeks more red, though they were already pink from Kairi's comment and not just embarrassment.

"Well," Riku said, turning so he was leaning his back against the counter. "You and I are supposed to be 'dating', right? When Kairi mentioned family, not only did I understand what she meant, but I took a different route with it." Marriage was ultimately what he thought, but Riku would never think about that...even now. People like him weren't meant to have that kind of commitment. Perhaps that was why he was still alone.
Lightning looked down at the mug as Riku explained it, slowly taking it in. They were "dating", and he took another route with family... "Ah," she said, taking another sip of the hot chocolate. So Riku was thinking about marriage. Or at least deducted it from Kairi's thinking. That was definitely another way for Lightning to become family to the group--by marrying into it. But...Riku couldn't seriously be considering that option right now. There was no way.

"Mm," Riku hummed softly, then lifting his mug to his lips. He could see the television from here, and that they were watching blitzball. Of course, it was the Destiny Islands' team, with Tidus. He could hear everyone cheer for their mutual friend from where he stood. He was glad that at least filled the silence.
"Well," Light said after a few moments. "You should think about marriage when you're in a real relationship." Right now, he and Lightning weren't. They put on a good facade without really trying to, but neither of them really talked about their feelings. She wasn't really sure why that was when it was clear where they stood with each other.

Riku took another sip of his drink at that, not wanting Lightning to read the frown that had suddenly formed on his lips. For some reason, hearing her say that upset him. "...Come on," he said, covering up his feelings. "Let's go sit down." Riku glanced at Lightning before pushing himself away from the counter, mug in hand as he started toward the couch.
Lightning arched a brow at Riku. If he thought he was covering anything up, he was stupid. Not only did he divert the conversation, but he walked away from her. That showed that she upset him somehow. But what'd she do? Nevertheless, she followed him to the couch and took the seat that she was in before, sitting close to the armrest so that Riku could sit between her and Noel. Apparently the latter decided to sit for a while.

Kairi rested in Sora's lap, her legs over the armrest of the chair as she kept her hot chocolate in her hands. "Go...go, Tidus!" she cheered, seeing her friend making his way toward the goal with the ball. He was fantastic at this game, as was Wakka. Kairi was happy to support them.
Serah leaned forward in her seat, into the game. The only reason she knew what was going on was because Noel explained it to her. It took a lot of time, but she got it now. But the game still didn't hold her full attention. She glanced over to the side, seeing Lightning and Riku. They seemed awfully chummy a minute ago by the kitchen.

Riku heard Noel groan in disappointment when someone came and knocked the ball away from Tidus. He was only silent, not as into it as he was in the past. It was Chrismas Eve, so it stunk that his friends were stuck playing blitzball away from their families. But hopefully if they won, it would make the holiday that much better.

The Next Day, Christmas

Lightning slept in the next day, not being woken up by Serah today since she was at Riku's house still. There would come a day that she moved in with her sister and their new foster parents, but as long as the press was harassing her, she'd stay with Riku. It was a blessing, in a way, to be able to spend Christmas morning alone with him until they went to his parents' home. She hummed drowsily, rolling over in the bed without realizing that somebody was about to wake her up completely.

Riku walked into Lightning's room quietly, hearing that sleepy murmur and unable to help but smile. Dressed in sweats, a hoodie, and socks, he wasn't easy to detect as he made his way toward the bed. He had a small box in his hand, wrapped for the occasion. It was Christmas, and since this girl was so special to him (something he could admit now without feeling a jolt of surprise) he decided to get her something of the same quality. Something special.

Lightning faced the direction of Riku, though her eyes were still shut as she nestled her head into the pillow. She didn't know what time it was, but it didn't really matter. She would wake up when the time was right and then spend some time with Riku. Besides, maybe he was still asleep too. Yesterday was pretty exhausting. Great, but exhausting.

Riku made his way to the bed, sitting down on the edge of it as he gazed at Lightning. His smile remained at the way she got comfortable. The fact that she was comfortable was great, especially since she was that way in his home. "...Light," Riku called softly, his gift resting in his lap. "Lightning, wake up."
Lightning was a pretty light sleeper, so she heard Riku's call of awakening. She didn't bother peeking her eyes open though, still tired. "Why?" she murmured. "What time is it?" Did she sleep in too late? She hoped it wasn't time to go to Riku's parents' house already. She liked being alone with him.

"Still morning," Riku said softly, tilting his head a little as he gazed at the girl in the bed. She was so....beautiful. Even if she wasn't done up, she was beautiful. He told her as much before, but she only laughed at him. Hopefully the gift he was about to give her would show how much he cared for her, and made her believe his words.
