Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Roxas nodded faintly in agreement, glancing around at his friends before he started forward. He sensed Sora do the same, and though he wasn't sure if they were all going to chill at somebody's house or not, it didn't matter. They'd just walk for a little while together and try to forget about how nastily the race ended.

The next day

Riku stood behind a young man doing bench presses, spotting him as he lifted the weights. "That's it," he encouraged. "Keep going. Three more." The young man struggled, but pushed through with the weight, and Riku helped him set the bar back in place. He had quite a few recruits, nearly ten, and they were all using the gym this afternoon. Some were in their teens, and some were even older than him, in their twenties. People were actually listening to him concerning the Darkness and getting stronger in order to protect the community. It was great.

It took Lightning a day to work up the nerve to approach Riku. She felt like she had to, in order to thank him for helping her out at the race yesterday. He hadn't needed to do that but he did it, and he did it without being a jerk about it. Honestly, it caught her off guard how kind he had been without pitying her or thinking that she was weak. It was different for people to view her as strong and not weak. And now she would use a part of that strength to be bold enough to approach this guy. She took in a breath before she stepped inside the Guardian Corps headquarters, eyes wandering to try and find Riku.

Riku walked through the aisles of equipment, stuff he managed to get with the munny he collected during his previous travels. It wasn't much, but it was enough to function. He eyed a few recruits' forms as they worked out, but then he moved to those using the few treadmills he had. He nodded to himself in approval, crossing his arms over his black beater, wearing some comfortable basketball shorts and sneakers as well. It was his usual gym attire, and the others were wearing around the same. It was best to be comfortable when working out, that way you weren't irritated and quit early. That had always been a rule.
Lightning saw Riku, but unfortunately, he didn't see her. She'd have to walk across half the gym to get to him, and probably draw some attention to herself in the process. She groaned mentally. Why did this have to be so unpleasant? Regardless, she started over in that direction, hoping this wouldn't be too awkward.

Riku turned around one of the treadmills, and at that moment he saw pink hair. None of his recruits had the color, and that only meant one thing. Lightning was here, but why? Riku lifted an eyebrow, his arms falling to his sides as he started toward her casually, curiously. "Does this mean I won the bet?" he asked, referring to the wager they made during the race. She had to come here at least once if he beat her in the race, but neither of them finished. He thought it was off.
Lightning blinked, shaking her head immediately as she stopped in front of Riku. No, that wasn't it at all. She had actually forgotten all about the bet. "Actually..." she muttered, glancing down and over at the ground. Oh come on already. How hard is it to say thank you? You can't be that afraid to boost his ego... Actually, it was the opposite of that. Her own ego was a little deflated from what happened.

Riku tilted his head a little, waiting for Lightning to continue. Actually...what? It looked like she had forgotten all about the bet, but he hadn't. He never forgot a challenge. Riku patiently stood in front of the shorter teen, aware that she clearly had something more to say.
Lightning's hands curled slightly by her sides as she lifted her gaze back up to Riku's eyes. "I came to say thanks," she said more clearly as she met his eyes. There, that hadn't been so bad. Sure, she was annoyed that she got tripped up so easily and needed help, but that was a reality. From now on she'd be stronger so she didn't need to depend on anybody. She didn't like trusting others.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed slightly, though he knew exactly what Lightning was talking about. He was just surprised. She actually showed gratitude? "You're welcome," he said, smirking a little. It almost seemed like...she had a little trouble. Must have a lot of pride.
Lightning caught that smirk, and it made her furrow her eyebrows slightly. She could tell what Riku was thinking; he had noticed how she needed to swallow her pride to show gratitude. "Oh grow up," she spat. "You've got a much bigger ego than I do." He was the one who stormed away from a lunch table just because she said he was paranoid.

Riku's eyebrows shot up at the teen's sharp tone. "I never said I didn't," he spoke in his own defense, though his attitude showed he was slightly amused. Lightning was a person he could read quite easily, at least for right now. She called him paranoid, but she was clearly the same if she was getting ticked off at him for simply knowing the truth.
Lightning opened her mouth to speak, but she bit her tongue before she could say what she wanted to say. If you really realize how big your ego is, stop getting on my case about mine, she nearly said. But she didn't come here to fight, no matter how obnoxious Riku's smirk was. What was with this guy? One day he was actually a decent human being and the next he wasn't.

Riku's smirk grew slightly, but then he put a hand on his hip, getting rid of the awkward silence. "Since you're here, wanna try out some of the equipment?" he asked, motioning to the gym with a jerk of his head. He technically did win the bet, now that he thought about it; he was ahead of Lightning when they got taken out of the race, so between the two of them, he actually won.
Lightning followed Riku's motion to some of the equipment, and she shook her head faintly. No, she didn't want to have anything to do with the Guardian Corps. If only she had won that race; she would have never had to hear about this again. Granted she put herself in this position today, but she did have to thank him. No matter how weird this was, she didn't regret showing gratitude for his momentary kindness.

Riku shrugged. "Alright," he said softly, smirk disappearing casually. If Lightning didn't want to use the equipment, she didn't have to. At least she came by to see the place.
Lightning looked past Riku to some of the people working out. He really didn't have much of a following, not that she was surprised. He was paranoid. Nevertheless... "I'll let you get back to it," she said with a slight nod. She turned and started to leave, figuring that took care of that situation. She'd never have to come back to this place again.

Riku watched Lightning take a few steps, but something made him want to stop her. "Hold on," he called, his voice calm. He won the bet... She had to do something while she was here, right? Stepping in and then out didn't count. His bets weren't that easily completed.
Lightning stopped a few feet away, turning faintly and looking over at Riku. She arched a brow in question, also asking one verbally. "What?" She had no clue what was left to say; the bet was over and Lightning thanked him for the help. Nothing else was worth bringing up, right?

"Stepping in and out of headquarters doesn't qualify," Riku said, crossing his arms over his black beater. "The bet isn't off just yet." Lightning had to do something in the gym for at least ten minutes. He could also evaluate her through the action, which would help him decide whether his original thoughts were right about her and that she belonged in the Corps.
Lightning folded her arms across her chest as her eyebrow remained arched. What was he talking about? "Nobody won the race," she reminded him. "The bet means nothing." And why was he implying that he won? She was right there with him when they ended the race.

"Technically I would have," Riku said, taking a few slow steps toward the girl. "I was ahead of you when we were forced to withdraw." He was the winner in that sense. Lightning's only defense was flawed.
Lightning's eyes narrowed defensively. "Because I was looking in the woods longer than you to try and figure out what was going on," she stated. That was the reason that she lagged behind him. But that was only a few steps difference! Was he seriously saying those few steps cost her the race? "I would have beaten you in the end."

"Why don't you prove it?" Riku asked, tilting his head. He could put her up to a little challenge, and that would be wrestling. They didn't exactly have enough room for running, biking, or swimming. If she could prove how strong she was, he would let it go.
Riku was baiting her. That much was obvious. Yet she was willing to take the bait to preserve what pride she had left. "Fine," she said lowly. "What do you want?" If he really did win the race yesterday, he had a right to decide what they were going to do right now.
