Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Yeah..." Riku said into the phone, gazing at the wall as his mother talked on the other line. "Yeah, we'll be there. Noon, right?" His mother spoke again for another small moment. "...Sora and Kairi said they would stop by later, and they'll probably bring Noel. Kairi offered to bring a pie." He smiled a little at his mother's exclamation of glee. "Yeah, they have to go to Sora's parents' first. Yeah... Alright. Love you too." Riku hung up the phone and sighed softly, though not out of exasperation. He just had a lot of people to see today. Lightning too, since she would be with him.

Lightning could tell that was Riku's mom on the phone; he would have spoken differently if it had been his father on the line. Still, she simply assumed it was about lunch later. That didn't concern her right now anyway. What concerned her now was Riku. She kept her head on his shoulder, though her eyes were now shut, as if she were falling asleep again.

Riku turned his head to look down at Lightning. "We should probably eat breakfast," he said softly. "It'll tide us over until lunch." It was only a few hours, but he didn't make pancakes for nothing. There weren't many, which was good too. His mother usually went all out for Christmas meals.
Lightning nodded faintly against Riku's shoulder, opening her eyes as she turned her head to look up at him. "Do I have time for a shower first?" she asked softly. Her voice was at that level because there was no need for it to be loud. That would have disrupted the serenity of the room.

Riku nodded, loosening his grip on Lightning's hand. "I'll go heat things up," he said, speaking of the food. He would need to, since they were in here for a little while...just sitting here, holding hands. Riku wanted nothing more than to keep doing so, but they would have the rest of the day...right?
"Alright," Lightning said with a small nod. She gave Riku's hand a small squeeze before she rose to her feet, heading towards the dresser to pick out what she wanted to wear. She wasn't sure where she stood with Riku's parents, so it was best to try and not be on their bad side. Dressing decently was one way to avoid that.

Riku rose from his seat as Lightning looked for clothes, his eyes on her until he reached the door. He rubbed the back of his head and started down the hall to go heat up the food. He would need a second away from Lightning anyway. Lately...things had been tense, but in a good way, he guessed. It was hard to describe.
Light hopped in the shower once her decision was made, and once that task was done, she put on the clothes that she decided on. Dark blue jeans and a light blue shirt Serah had bought her a little while ago. Serah didn't pick the shirt because it was Lightning's style necessarily, but it wasn't against it either. Besides, it made her eyes look nicer. So she placed her pink hair over her shoulder, glancing at herself in the mirror one last time before she headed out and saw Riku again.

Riku approached the table, having warmed up the syrup to help with the now barely-warm pancakes. He glanced over to the side when he saw Lightning coming, smiling instantly. "Just in time," he said, setting the syrup on the table. Her outfit choice didn't go unnoticed. She looked nice.
"Great," Lightning said, stopping by the table and looking down at the set. It looked delicious. Where there chocolate chips in those pancakes? She, like almost every other girl on the planet, enjoyed chocolate. Funny how she could be so normal in some ways yet so odd in others. But apparently Riku liked odd, so she did too.

Riku noticed that Lightning was just beside her seat, so he decided to take his own. "You look nice," he commented softly. It was warm enough for this weather at least, though he was sure his mother would keep the house comfortably warm today. She never failed to make this holiday enjoyable in the past.

Lightning felt a smile tug at her lips again as she sat down in the seat across from Riku. “Thanks,” she said quietly, her cheeks having a nice hue to them after her shower. She looked refreshed as a whole, and the happiness from yesterday carried over. She felt like a kid again, for the first time in forever.

"You're welcome," Riku told Lightning softly, his small smile remaining as he gazed at her. His eyes lingered on the necklace she was wearing--his necklace. He lowered his gaze to the pancakes and began to dig in, feeling good inside. The fact that Lightning was already wearing it was pleasing. It made him feel...important.
Lightning allowed herself to indulge in the pancakes as well, not taking too long to eat and finish them. Apparently she and Riku were both hungry, since there wasn’t much conversation in the meal. Or they just didn’t see the need to talk. Either way, she was content.

Riku put his dishes in the sink, rinsing them off a little now that he was done with his meal. "I'm gonna hop in the shower really fast," he said softly. "Then we can head over to my parents'." By the time they got everything assembled, like the gifts and what they were bringing over to include in the meal, it would be about noon. Unfortunately, since all Riku had was a motorcycle, they would have to decide whether they would rather walk or take a cab to the suburbs.
Lightning hummed her response, nodding as well. She'd wash her dishes in a minute and then relax on the couch until Riku was ready to leave. She was nervous though. His parents weren't huge fans of her a month ago at Thanksgiving, but now they were her foster parents. They probably took her in out of pity though. Hopefully Serah was making a good impression so far....

Riku turned at the sink and smiled faintly at Lightning before making his way out of the kitchen and down the hall. He already knew what he was wearing to his parents', so he instead just went straight to the bathroom and got to his shower. He wouldn't be long; his shower wouldn't be as long as Lightning's, since guys took less time in the shower anyways.
Lightning waited as patiently as she could on the couch, and when Riku was ready, they headed out. It didn't seem like a terrible day outside, with the sun shining and all. But when they were walking on the sidewalks, she began to notice a few patches of ice. Good thing those weren't there yesterday when they were racing; that would have been disastrous.

Riku carried a backpack over his shoulders, thankful that nobody's gifts were exceptionally large this year. Lightning had one as well, but Riku's was heavier, for obvious reasons. He stepped over an ice patch, spotting it with careful eyes as he walked on the inside of the path. It was cold out, but it wasn't as bad since he wasn't soaking wet from the snow. That was a plus.

"At least there isn't much snow on the sidewalks," Lightning said upon seeing Riku step over a patch of ice. It looked like they mostly had it cleared, just as they did yesterday. A little bit must have blown over it last night and caused the ice to appear. But oh well, it would be alright. Not many people were out walking today; they were at home, with their families.

"I'd prefer snow to ice," Riku admitted, his hands stuffed in his pockets to keep them warm. Why he never invested in gloves was beyond him. Sometimes he didn't really care, but with the wind as biting as it was today, it was a little difficult to not regret it.
"I guess I wouldn't know my preference yet," Lightning said with a casual shrug. After all, this was her first year experiencing snow. She didn't even know what it was when she first looked outside the window and saw it. It wasn't something she could have helped though, since she lived in Bodhum all her life. Yet she was about to choose a preference. Her right foot slipped as she lost her balance on a big piece of ice.

Riku released a few soft chuckles, but his laughter never had a chance to grow. He caught Lightning's slip out of the corner of his eye, his hand leaving his pocket before he had a chance to think about it. He grabbed Lightning's arm tightly and stopped her from falling, pulling her to him at the same time.
Lightning's breath caught in her throat when she didn't fall as she expected, the young girl finding herself against Riku's chest rather than against the ground. Her free hand had automatically found his shoulder and was still gripping it tightly even if she was in no danger of falling down again. She looked up at Riku in surprise, having not expected him to save her from that.

Riku looked down at Lightning, eyes alert because of what nearly happened. Slipping on ice was such a normal occurrence, but it could turn painful. He was glad it didn't reach that point. "You okay?" he asked lowly, not finding the need to speak loudly; he and Lightning were too close for that.
