Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku closed his eyes at the question, hating the fact that he didn't have an answer. The letter from the King said that Sora needed to rescue people with connections to his heart, whoever they were. Regardless, Riku was needed too. He wasn't sure why just yet, but he would be finding out soon. Riku's head turned sharply to the side when heard the key in the lock. Kairi...

Kairi had a bag of groceries in her arms, and she managed to the get the door unlocked and open, though she struggled with it a little. She stumbled into the apartment, as clumsy as ever. But she stopped short when she saw Sora...and Riku. Both looked upset about something, and very serious. But why?

Sora turned his head sharply towards the door, eyes a little wider than usual. He wished Kairi hadn't come for a few more minutes, but at the same time, it was good she was here now so that he could say his farewell. It was going to be so rough though...They were married a few months and he was being pulled away for an unknown amount of time because of the Keyblade. It wasn't fair.

Kairi looked from Riku to Sora repeatedly, not knowing who to focus on. Both of their expressions were bad. Her heart squeezed in fear when she sensed what was wrong. "...No," she said with a small shake of her head, her hold on the groceries loosening. Her boys... They were being taken away from her, weren't they?
Sora slowly rose to his feet, eyes sad as he gazed at his wife. "...Riku found a letter," he finally said, voice weak. He didn't bother putting on a facade; he didn't care if Riku called him weak for this later. If he did, Sora would be very angry. Being separated from your soul mate wasn't something that should have been teased about.

Kairi set the bag of groceries down by the door, though she didn't bother untying her coat. The room felt colder now that she knew there was a letter involved. A letter from the King. "...How long?" she asked softly, glancing from Sora to Riku. How long would they be gone this time?

Riku uncrossed his arms, shaking his head. "We don't know," he admitted lowly. They could be gone for days, weeks, even months. It wasn't a pleasant thought, but it was reality. They were being called on a mission, and by the way the letter was written, this wasn't under good circumstances.

Sora shook his head softly, glancing down at the ground before looking to Kairi. "They want us to take some kind of test right away," he stated quietly. "A Mastery test." He wasn't sure why it was so important all of a sudden, but that was what the letter said. For now, that was all the information they got.

Kairi could only gaze at her husband in silence, though she looked at Riku as well. The awful feeling in her heart told her that they would be gone for more than a few days. This mission...this test...would take a while. Kairi reached into her purse, which she had set down on the ground as well, and pulled out her good luck charm. She looked from it to her husband, taking a few steps forward in the silence. He would need this...
Sora didn't realize what Kairi was doing until he saw the specific object in her grasp. He lifted his hands, not in recieving, but in objection. "N-no..." he protested faintly. He couldn't take that good luck charm. Last time, he hadn't been able to return the good luck charm for over a year. He didn't want that happening again...He didn't want to be gone and away from her...

Kairi shook her head and took another step forward, grasping one of Sora's hands and lowering it. She placed her charm in his grasp and curled his fingers around it. She looked from the charm to her husband, fighting the urge to cry. She wouldn't let Sora's last memory of her involve her tears. "...See you soon," Kairi told him softly, taking her hand away. Sora would bring this back to her...someday.
Sora reached out with his free hand and snatched Kairi's before it could fully withdraw, though he didn't grip her wrist tightly enough to hurt her. He wordlessly placed her hand atop the charm in his, his eyes down on that instead of meeting her eyes. "Soon," he agreed quietly. He wouldn't allow it to be longer than that. He'd find his way back to her, quickly.

Kairi gazed at Sora in silence, feeling the charm underneath her fingers. He was making a promise to her, and she would hold him to it. She nodded slightly to show she understood and accepted his reply, though she remained silent. She wouldn't say goodbye... This wasn't goodbye, not today.

Riku gave the couple privacy, though he was still in the room. He stared down at the floor, eyebrows furrowed. At least Sora got to say goodbye to Kairi. Riku didn't have that chance with Lightning; she was with Serah for the day. Finding her would take too much time. He didn't even have time to leave a note. He and Lightning would be parting without any form of goodbye...and probably for weeks.

Sora slowly released Kairi's wrist, though he continued to hold the charm the same way as before. He looked up at Kairi and jerked his head gently towards Riku. She had to say goodbye to him too. He was family too, even if it wasn't official by any standards. Riku was like their big brother.

Kairi smiled weakly at Sora in understanding, tearing her eyes from him to look at Riku. Her big brother must have sensed her gaze, because he looked up then, meeting her eyes. Kairi crossed the space separating them and wrapped her arms around him immediately, her arms around his neck. Her brother's strong arms wrapped around her, though she didn't catch Riku sharing a look with Sora. It was easy to sense that both of them were disappointed that they had to leave, and Kairi was the same way. Their trio was getting split up.
Sora shared Riku's look for a few moments before lowering his gaze to the good luck charm in his hand. I'll bring it back, he thought again, curling his fingers around it a little more tightly. I promise. He lowered it to his pocket in silence, allowing Kairi and Riku to have their moment. He and Riku would have to leave in a little while; the portal was going to appear soon.

Riku felt Kairi start to pull away, so he released her. "Kairi," he started softly. His friend was smiling, and that made this departure worse, but...he had a favor to ask. "Tell Lightning that I--"

"I know," Kairi interrupted softly. She would tell Lightning that Riku said goodbye...and that he was sorry he couldn't tell her in person. She saw Riku nod to her, and she returned it, turning around to look at her husband. She guessed...they had to go.

Sora knew that Kairi was trying to be brave, so he supposed that he would try to be the same. "Good luck kiss?" he requested softly, setting a hand on her waist. He wanted to have one more kiss with her before he left, even if his excuse was a cheesy one. Riku wouldn't mock him for it later though, hopefully. If he did, there would be problems.

While Riku stepped away again to give the couple some privacy, Kairi couldn't help but release a single-noted laugh. She stepped forward, wrapping her arms around her husband's neck and connecting her lips with his. Whether Sora wanted a good luck kiss or not, she was going to give him one.
Sora's lips tugged into a small smile at Kairi's reaction, though he quickly allowed that smile to fade as he gently kissed Kairi back. His arms went around her back more, pressing against her gently to bring her closer to him. They wouldn't be apart too long; he couldn't stand it if that happened. No, they'd be together again soon. That was his promise to her, and he wouldn't fail to keep that oath.

Kairi kissed Sora for a long moment, though she realized that they were crunched on time. She wanted to stall, just so she could keep him here, but it wouldn't work. She couldn't be selfish. Kairi pulled back and let her forehead rest against Sora's, one of her hands resting in his spikes. "...Please be careful," she asked of him quietly. She wanted him to come back to her in one piece. Riku too.
"We will," Sora promised quietly, understanding that Kairi wasn't just referring to Sora being safe on this trip. He had his eyes open as he spoke the promise, having wanted to have eye-contact with Kairi while he made that oath. But whether they met eyes or not, the oath would have been the truth. They'd both be careful and return to her.

Kairi's eyes met Sora's, and she saw the sincerity in his gaze. She bit her lip in anxiousness, knowing that now she had to let him go. She leaned forward and connected her lips with his in a small kiss again, though she hugged him a second later. Her grasp was tight as she fought her tears, trying to be brave. She had to let them know that she would be okay... Sora and Riku couldn't worry about her while they were gone. They had to focus on their task.
Sora gently hugged Kairi back, planting a small kiss in her red hair. After a few seconds, though, he released her and looked over at Riku. It was time for the two of them to leave, though neither of them were eager to do so. A few months ago, Riku wouldn't have minded so much because he did like getting of the Islands every once in a while. Now things were different, for obvious reasons.

Riku was by the door, and he nodded to Sora upon recognizing the look on his face. It was time for them to leave; the portal should have been opening any minute now, and they still had to get to the beach. He looked to Kairi and smiled softly, soothingly. We'll see you soon, he silently told her, receiving a weak smile and nod in return.
Sora smiled weakly at Kairi before stepping away and walking over to the door. He wouldn't say "goodbye", and he wouldn't even say "see you later". The latter was spoken through their promises and actions. He'd come back to her soon, and he knew that she would be waiting here for him. At the doorway, he gave her a faint wave before he and Riku disappeared from Kairi's sight and were gone.

Riku and Sora quickly made their way to the beach, managing to make it there in good time through the snow. Unfortunately, Riku sensed that they had to hurry, so they were running a majority of the time. When they reached the beach, he looked around and spotted the portal. "There," he said with a nod of his head. The portal was already open, waiting for them.
