Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku frowned, keeping his eyes forward as he walked. "The Guardian," he said simply. The demon messed with her strength when it dived into her heart, all because of Ansem. Riku tightened his hold on Lightning, walking through a puddle as he approached the doors to the inn. They weren't seen or heard due to the rain, which was a relief. Lightning couldn't take much more.
Light felt startled at the random mention, her weary eyes going up to Riku. "What?" she asked, still keeping her voice soft even if the rain covered them well. They were both beyond drenched now, though the leather coat she wore did a good job repelling much of the water. That wasn't the only gift of Riku's she had on though. The necklace was tucked away inside it.

Riku's jaw flexed as he fought the urge to curse, hating the fear that was in Lightning's voice. She was so scared...and it was because he left her alone. He approached the inn and managed to kick the door in, stepping inside. He saw a chair in the dark room and started over toward it to set Lightning down, avoiding her question on purpose. He didn't want to explain it...not to her.

Lightning realized what Riku was doing; she wasn't stupid. He was purposely not answering her. And the exhaustion and fear were just encouraging her to be more angry than she should have been. "Riku," she snapped lowly, leaning back in the chair but looking up at him with an intimidating look. "It's time you told me something." Unlike when he left.

Riku looked at Lightning, slightly surprised by her tone. But then he frowned, eyebrows furrowing as he turned and went to shut the door. The room was covered in darkness, apart from the light that came through the windows. "...The Guardian," he repeated, still facing the door. "When Ansem entered your heart, he weakened you. It's a side effect." He was weak for so long...but then he grew an immunity, at least to that bit. But now he was immune to the Darkness, mostly. It was different now.
Lightning shut her eyes briefly. Well, that explained that. That stupid Guardian...she should have never let him get so close to her. And earlier when he grabbed her arm once again, it could have been made so much worse. She wrapped her arms over her chest, beginning to shake because of fear and cold.

Riku turned away from the door at the silence, searching for a light. They also needed heat to dry off. In the lobby there was a fireplace, and he approached it in silence. The wood was still fresh, even if this place was abandoned for so long. Summoning his Keyblade, he got to work on starting the fire, letting the silence cover the room as the light from the flames slowly did the same.
Lightning gritted her teeth, biting down so that they didn't chatter. Stupid. This was so stupid. This wasn't how her reunion with Riku was supposed to go. There wasn't supposed to be a reunion at all; he shouldn't have left her in the first place. And now he was avoiding her? Seriously?

Riku stood up from his place in front of the fireplace, sending his Keyblade away. He glared at the fireplace for a moment, upset with the situation. He was glad he found Lightning, so glad. So relieved. But...Ansem ruined their reunion on multiple levels. It wasn't how he imagined seeing her again, not even close.
Lightning lowered her head, allowing the drops of water to fall from her hair and onto her cheeks along with moisture coming from elsewhere--her eyes. She was so tired, sad, and scared. She was drawn into this situation and she didn't know if she could handle it. Riku's demon ganging up on her was one thing, but having a whole Organization looking for her? ...Having Riku in danger for her sake? It was terrifying. Infuriating too.

Riku turned, looking over at Lightning where she sat on the chair. Regardless of whether this was how he wanted to reunite with her, she was here. She was safe...well, as safe as she could be in this situation. He started toward her in silence, ignoring his soaking wet hair and clothes as he approached her. Once in front of her, Riku reached for Lightning's hands, wanting to bring her closer to the fire to get warmed up.
Lightning saw the hands coming for her and she snapped. When she looked up at Riku, not only was the fire reflecting in her eyes, but there was also another type of fire present in her gaze. She rose to her feet in front of him, pressing both her hands against his chest and pushing him away. Her anger briefly made itself known earlier, but it was going to explode from her now. Better that than show her fear and sadness.

Riku blinked in surprise, only taking a step back from the shove. He was confused, to say the least. Why was Lightning mad at him? He saved her, protected her...found her. What had he done wrong in all of that? He gazed at Lightning in silence, waiting for her to elaborate on what was wrong.
Lightning glared at Riku, her own fatigue on the back burner as she let anger take the reigns. "That was for leaving without goodbye," she said, giving reason to the shove. Ansem mentioned it earlier, and she would repeat it. She was angry at him for leaving without saying goodbye to her. She felt so betrayed when he did that, even if he had no control. It wasn't his fault, but these feelings of hers wouldn't go away unless she got them out now.

Riku only stared at Lightning, not saying anything. Fair enough, he thought bitterly. He deserved that. Actually, he probably deserved worse than that. He wasn't just gone for a few days or a few weeks. He was gone for months. He wouldn't have been happy either.
Lightning took a step forward, lifting her hands and shoving him again. "That was for not helping me move into your family's house like you promised," she said, more water dripping from her hair and clothes with the actions. As if she was going to notice small details like that now. She raised both her hands yet again and gave yet another shove. "That was for leaving me to face the press and answer for your sudden disappearance."

Riku took a step back with each shove, not saying anything. I know, he thought to every reason behind her pushing. I know. He was wrong, very wrong. Riku ground his teeth together in frustration, his jaw flexing. Ansem was right all along. Riku did hurt Lightning...badly. She was crying.
Lightning curled her hand into a fist, punching it weakly against Riku's chest instead of shoving him again. Shoving hadn't been good enough. "For not coming back just once to tell me that you were alright!" she scolded, looking up at him as water from her hair and eyes slid down her cheeks. It didn't matter which was which; she didn't care. "For making me worry about you every day when you didn't come home..."

Riku gazed into Lightning's eyes, his hard with regret and sorrow. Anger at himself for letting things happen this way. He should have said goodbye. He should have at least sent a letter... He should have done something to communicate with her.
Light gritted her teeth, hitting Riku's chest again and then again, though her fist was weak. Her eyes still showed anger though along with hurt. "For not being there when Ansem had me in that jail cell and unleashed the Guardian on me!" she cried, eyes narrowing. He wasn't there...She cried his name quietly and he didn't come. He wasn't there...

Riku's eyebrows furrowed instantly, not liking to hear that. He already knew about it, true, but hearing Lightning say it like that--with such fear. It hurt, badly. And the fact that she was crying made it worse. Much worse. "Light..." he tried, voice low in the dimly lit room. He...was sorry. Incredibly, incredibly sorry.
Lightning gently pounded her fist against Riku's chest again and again, her gaze lowering to the ground as she softened. Her fury could only last for so long; again her drive was running out. She just lightly kept punching him, her mouth suddenly dry and devoid of words. Except... "For making me cry, idiot," she said softly. He deserved this treatment for making her cry.

Riku shook his head, as if in denial. No...no, he didn't want to make her cry. Not again. But he failed in that just now, his eyes on the tears falling down Lightning's cheeks. He stepped forward instantly, pulling Lightning to him as he cupped the back of her head with one hand, the other wrapping around her shoulders as he brought her close. He couldn't take it anymore. He didn't care if he was supposed to be the tough Keyblade Master now; he had feelings for this girl, and she had feelings for him. But hers had turned negative and bitter in just two months. It was far from okay.
Despite what most people would have thought, this wasn't Lightning's anger anymore. If she had really been furious at Riku, she would have called him a much worse name than "idiot." And she would have shoved him away too, fatigued or not. Instead, she hid her face in his shoulder and leaned into him, allowing him to support her weight as the hand that was previously a fist against Riku's chest now sat on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry," Riku said into Lightning's ear, keeping his arms around her. "I wanted nothing more than to see you, but...I couldn't. I just couldn't." He held Lightning tightly, not wanting to hear her cry anymore. He hated that sound, and he hated the sight. It was awful. It hurt his heart.
