Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Lightning nodded softly, looking out the window along with Riku. It seemed like he was right; there wasn't anything out there as far as she could see. "Where are we going?" she asked quietly, stepping closer and leaning her head against Riku's shoulder. He was mostly dry by now--not as dry as she was, since she stayed by the fire the whole time.

Riku lifted his arm, wrapping it around Lightning's shoulder in silence, the young man releasing a quiet breath. "I don't know," he told her softly. "Our best bet is that portal, but if someone's still standing guard, I'll have to clear the path." He would have to fight whoever was in their way, that way Lightning could get out of here. She came first, before himself. Always.

Lightning, again, nodded softly. She didn't want to ask this, but... "Do you think he's the one guarding it?" she asked quietly. It was obvious who she meant by "he", and if Riku didn't know it, something was wrong. She just...didn't want to run into Ansem and the Guardian again. Not before she had a weapon.

Riku shook his head. "No," he said lowly. "He would have noticed us." In other words, Ansem would have sensed their vulnerable hearts. It wasn't Ansem guarding the portal. It was someone else, but he wasn't sure who exactly.
"Hm," Lightning hummed softly. She wondered who it was, then. Not that she knew any of the people in the Organization, but she did listen in on their meeting. One of the voices sounded...familiar. It was impossible, she knew, but that voice lingered in the back of her mind from something. The question was, what? When did she meet that person? Or did she just imagine it all?

Riku turned his head, shifting his body so he was looking at Lightning head on. "Hey," he said softly, Keyblade still in his grasp. "I need you to promise me something." There was something he wanted her to promise before they left the inn. He had to have her word.
Lightning turned herself to look at Riku as well, humming her responsive question. What did he want her to promise him? They exchanged vows earlier; she said she wouldn't cry anymore, and he said that he wouldn't scare her again. What more promises needed to be made?

Riku lifted his free hand to cup the side of Lightning's face, some of his hand in her pink hair behind her ear. "If I tell you to do something, you do it. No questions asked," he told her, his tone soft but firm. His eyes were the same, hard in seriousness. "If I say run, you run. All right?" Riku knew when situations weren't in his favor, and if that happened, he would tell Lightning to make a run for it. He wouldn't have her get captured.
Lightning's eyebrows immediately furrowed. She should have expected some kind of stupid request like that. Expected order or not, the answer was on the tip of her tongue. "No," she said easily, shaking her head faintly. She wasn't going to run and leave him behind, no matter how awful the circumstances. She wouldn't even consider leaving him.

Riku's eyes sharpened even more at the answer, keeping the close proximity. "Yes," he said in disagreement. He needed her to follow the order. "Please." He couldn't have Lightning get hurt because he couldn't handle a fight. Lightning was a target; she needed to flee if things didn't work out in their favor.
The use of the word "please" wasn't going to sway Lightning so easily. "No," she repeated again, her tone just as firm as Riku's. He was an experienced warrior; she got that. She understood she could be as good as helpless against these guys. But if they were going down, they were going down together.

Riku closed his eyes in frustration, keeping his hand where it was. The other's grip tightened on the Keyblade. Why didn't she get it? "Lightning," he said lowly, frustration evident in his tone. "I can't..." He couldn't have her taken away from him again. He just couldn't. He couldn't handle it.
Lightning furrowed her eyebrows as well, as frustrated with Riku as he was with her. "I know I'm going to be a burden," she said lowly. "But I can't just...run." The thought made her feel sick to her stomach, for multiple reasons. One was that she never ran away from fights. The other reason was that running would be abandoning Riku. She couldn't do that.

"No," Riku said with a slight shake of his head. "No, you're not a burden. I just..." He couldn't witness her being taken from him. He wasn't there the last time, but the fact that she was gone when he returned was enough to terrify him. That wasn't easy to do. Riku glanced at Lightning, meeting her eyes, but then he closed his eyes again, frowning. "...I just can't lose you again, okay?" He couldn't do it. He wasn't strong enough to handle it.
Lightning shook her head faintly. She couldn't promise Riku that she wouldn't be taken. She could promise to fight, but being taken was still a possibility. She took a small step closer to him, though they were already in close proximity. "...And I can't have you leave again," she said quietly, shutting her eyes.

Riku lowered his forehead, letting it rest against Lightning's as he kept his eyes closed. He released a small breath in fear and anticipation, unaware of the fact that his breath fanned over Lightning's face. "Lightning..." he whispered. Why did she have to be so stubborn? It attracted him to her, sure, but in times like these... It was difficult.
Light kept silent, exhaling a quiet breath in response to Riku's closeness. He had to know that she wasn't going to abandon him. Her feelings for him were far too deep for that. She called him an idiot earlier, and rightfully so. He just didn't get it, did he? She adored him. He had her heart, and if she ran off, her heart would stay with him.

Riku was scared. He couldn't deny that he was scared of what was to come. This war was different than anything before it; it was more complicated, darker, and more dangerous. He just didn't want innocent people getting hurt. Riku let his thumb glide over Lightning's cheek, the young man keeping their position. "...I won't stop protecting you," he whispered. She had to know that. "I'll get you out of this. I swear." Riku would make sure Lightning got to go home. No matter what.

Lightning felt moisture begin to gather behind her eyes. "Don't make promises you can't keep," she whispered, mostly to Riku's second oath. She was already pulled into this, and apparently pretty deeply if the Organization wanted her to be one of their pawns. Obviously Riku would try to get her out of the situation, but that may have been all he was able to do.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed at Lightning's response. What she didn't know was that it was a promise he was going to keep. He would die protecting her if he had to. He would die to protect his friends, and those that were more than friends. Riku let his hand rest in Lightning's hair as he lifted his chin, pressing a kiss to Lightning's forehead. I'm going to keep you safe. That's my promise.
Light allowed her eyes to remain shut, though her heart was pounding when Riku just kissed her forehead. That was all it took to make her emotions skyrocket. She lifted her hands and set them on Riku's upper arms, feeling his strength even as they stood still. He was the type of person who made others feel secure, her included.

Riku felt Lightning's hands on his arms, her hands warm against his skin. He hoped to feel that warmth later, after all of this was over. That would encourage him to keep going. He let his lips leave her forehead, looking down at her, even if she wasn't looking back. "Don't leave my sight," Riku told her lowly. He couldn't have her disappear on him again.
Lightning nodded softly, lifting her head and gazing at Riku's serious eyes. "You too," she responded quietly. She knew she wasn't in a place to make demands here, but she was dealing them out anyway. The last time Riku left her sight, he was out of it for two months. That wasn't alright.

Riku nodded, his stern expression remaining. He let his hand leave Lightning's cheek as he stepped away, knowing that they needed to get going. If they were going to leave, they needed to do it sooner rather than later. It was best to get it done now. More than likely, a fight was going to ensue.
Lightning's hands fell by her sides, her gaze openly showing disappointment before she covered it up and looked outside. Even if this building was in a dangerous world, this place felt safe just because Riku was here. It was crazy how badly she was craving safety and how she couldn't save herself at all this time around. She didn't like it.
