Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning glanced over to the side, at one of Riku's hands that were still pinning her. Not to mention the fact that he was sitting on her. "It would help if you stood up," she said, turning her eyes back to his. What was the problem? Was he scared of hurting her? He didn't need to be. She was tougher than she looked.

Without another word Riku rose to his feet, backing away from Lightning so she could get up as well. He was curious as to how much hand-to-hand combat she actually knew. She was a young girl, seventeen or so, and she was skilled with that kind of combat? How did she even learn?
Lightning pushed herself up, noticing Riku didn't offer her a hand. Apparently he wasn't very gentleman like. Regardless, she dusted herself off and glanced around, seeing that they were developing an audience. This was either going to be her redemption or her downfall; she could only hope for the former. She took a few steps back, ready for him to come at her again.

Riku saw that Lightning was waiting for him, but he didn't follow with the cue. He set one foot behind the other, raising his hands slightly. He waved at her with both of them. "Come on," he encouraged, voice low with seriousness. "Come at me." He was ready.
Afraid of hitting a girl? Lightning thought, smirking faintly in amusement. You'll find out soon enough that you should be afraid of me hitting you. She pushed off with her feet, running the short distance between her and Riku. She wasn't willing to put herself in too vulnerable a position with the first move, so she just threw a punch towards his stomach.

Riku jumped back slightly, avoiding the punch but still keeping his eyes on Lightning. Like he figured before, she was fast. A lot like Sora, but more light on her feet. He prepared for her next move by keeping the same position, his eyes alert.
As soon as Riku took a step back, Lightning was right there. She kicked the front of his shin without mercy before she swung around him from behind and gave him a solid kick in the back of that knee. If he wasn't going to fight back, this was going to be an easy fight.

Riku fell to the ground, but he sucked up the pain that coursed through his leg. Instead, he rolled forward to return to his feet. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed the spectators, who apparently found this more appealing than their training. Riku's jaw flexed; he didn't want to fall to a seventeen year old. He was the Keyblade wielder who fell to Darkness. He was supposed to be one of the strongest. Losing in hand-to-hand combat was out of the question.
Come on, fight back! Lightning wanted to yell. She felt weird doing this when he wasn't doing anything to strike back. In fact... She lowered her fists, shaking her head faintly. "Forget it," she said. "If you're not going to fight back, then you're wasting my time." She could be doing something useful, like training on her own. It was easier to punch a bag than a human being who wouldn't fight back.

Riku froze for a second, but then he lowered his arms. "I have twice the strength as you do," he said in his own defense. "If I throw a punch and you don't move in time, I'll be attacking a minor." He didn't exactly want that on his record, and he didn't want bruises on Lightning's body.
"Didn't think about that when trying to recruit high schoolers, did you?" Lightning asked with an arched brow. Still, she was suspicious that the issue was something different. "I think you're really afraid to hit a girl. But you know what? You couldn't hit me even if you tried." It was a taunt, but Lighting truly was confident in her skills even if most of them were self-taught.

Riku looked away. "I get it," he said lowly. "You want me to get angry and hit you, but it's not going to work. Unless you're trying to kill me, I'm not going to hit a woman." He let his aqua eyes lock onto Lightning's pale blue, his eyebrows furrowing. "End of story."
"Lucky for you, I left my gun at home," Lightning said dryly. So she wouldn't be trying to kill Riku today. Did he seriously not think girls could be equal to him in fighting? He was wrong. Very wrong. She stared at him for a moment more before she turned to leave. There was nothing left to be said or done here in her eyes.

Riku watched Lightning walk off, and he didn't intend on stopping her. Once she passed his recruits, he looked to them. "Get back to training, guys," he ordered calmly, his voice low. They listened, returning to their equipment as he looked after Lightning. After a moment, however, he started picking up the mats. Whatever point she was trying to make, he wasn't going to accept it. He would never hit a girl unless she was trying to kill him. That was why he went on the defensive in training. Hitting Lightning was out of the question.

That night

Since that night was one of the only nights Lightning had off, she wanted to enjoy it. And since she was still ticked off about Riku being sexist earlier, she was off on her own so Serah didn't see her anger. But now, sitting on the beach under the stars, she was calmer. She didn't mind sitting there alone so much, even if it did leave her alone to her thoughts. And her thoughts were never pleasant ones.

Riku rowed in from the play island, tying his boat up to the pier and using the moonlight to help him. Sora and Kairi had left earlier after watching the sunset, but he stayed behind to think about some things. Like Lightning. Ever since she left the gym, he couldn't get her out of his head. It bugged him, since he hadn't had this kind of problem since Kairi was without her heart. Only then had a girl been on his mind so much, but this was different. Lightning wasn't in danger, but she was getting to him anyway.
Okay. Tomorrow is school. I have half an hour before I need to go to work and then I'll be home by ten, Lightning thought to herself. Serah was fourteen; she could stay at home by herself. There wasn't much other choice; she couldn't go to a friend's house on a school night and even if she did, it would be a pain for Lightning to bring her home after work. Besides, the area they were in wasn't that dangerous; she'd be fine.

Riku stood up on the pier and looked from his boat to the sky, seeing the stars and the moon. He was curious as to what was going on in the worlds, since he hadn't left his in a long time. He had no way to get around now that he didn't belong in Darkness. Riku didn't let his thoughts wander in that direction, instead turning and starting down the steps of the pier to the beach. He really needed to sleep, that way he could get a lot off his mind.
Lightning heard the noise echoing from the creaky steps in the distance, but she chose to ignore them. It wasn't important. What was important was making sure that Serah was coping okay with this new move. She knew that it would help if Lightning was happy too, but that was just it: Lightning didn't do happiness. She wasn't capable of feeling it to its fullest extent anymore. That knowledge made it hard for her to feel it at all.

Riku started down the beach, realizing that he wasn't alone. His eyebrows furrowed when he thought he recognized the person, and with each step, he got closer and closer to putting a name to them. Lightning. "Don't you have a curfew?" Riku called, not meaning to taunt or be a jerk, but just asking. Serah was probably waiting for her.
Lightning didn't bother looking over, recognizing Riku's voice instantly. She hadn't even thought about curfew; was it illegal for seventeen year olds to be out past a certain hour? Or was he referring to parents? "Oh, I'm sorry," she said lowly. "Are you going to arrest a minor for being out past their bedtime?" She was seventeen, but she acted and felt much older. Even Riku should have realized that by now.
  • Author
"No," Riku replied, his voice soft as the waves gently rolled in. He stopped a few feet away, his eyes on Lightning where she sat. He wouldn't arrest her; one, he didn't want to. And two, he didn't have the right or authority. He was just warning her in case someone else who had the authority showed up.
"I can take a guess why," Lightning said, still refusing to look over at Riku. "It's because you'd have to take me by force, and you don't want to attack a girl." She knew that was really why he didn't fight her earlier; it had nothing to do with her being a minor. He just didn't want to attack a female. But this female was ready to fight back, so he should have too. She wasn't fragile.
  • Author
"Not quite," Riku said in his defense. "I don't have the authority or the right to take you home because of a curfew. I was just making small-talk and throwing out a warning." As for the second assumption... "And you're right, I don't want to attack a girl. I don't want to attack any girl, but that's because there's no reason to." He realized he came off a bit sexist earlier, but that wasn't the case. He just knew he was stronger than Lightning, and if he threw a punch, he would regret it if he hurt her.

Lightning rolled her eyes. "Girls aren't too weak to handle a few hard blows," she said. Especially not her. No, she didn't have real battle experience, but she was well trained. Not that she believed any battles were coming soon; she just took up that hobby for reasons like keeping her father's memory alive and distracting herself.
