Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"I'm not looking for an apol--" Riku opened his eyes just then, and he stopped speaking. Lightning's face... It was extremely pale. It was ghostly white. He stepped forward instantly, lifting a hand to the side of her head. Was she sick? "What happened?" he encouraged her. Riku had to know now. Lightning looked terrible, and he wanted to know what caused it.
"Nothing," Light said quietly, lowering her gaze to Riku's chest as he stepped right in front of her. Just to convince him, and herself, she repeated the word again. "Nothing." Nothing "happened"...Except Master Yen Sid trying to recruit her for the fight and nearly guilt-tripping her into it. This wasn't good...

Riku wasn't sure what to do. Storming in and ordering Master Yen Sid around was a bad idea. But...Riku was a Master too. They were on the same level as far as authority went. If Riku believed he deserved to know, he would demand answers. He looked at Lightning for another moment before retreating, taking a step back and starting out of the room. Master Yen Sid it is.

Light blinked, looking up at Riku as he started out of the room. "Riku..." she called in protest, reaching her hand towards him a little bit. He couldn't just storm out there and demand what was going on; Master Yen Sid seemed like he was completely above Riku. He couldn't disrespect him for Lightning's sake...

"Master Yen Sid," Riku called, stepping out of the room and letting the door stay open behind him. He approached the man's desk, standing in front of it. "I have a question, and I need an answer. Immediately." Anything that concerned Lightning was too important for him to ignore. Riku cared far too much just to let this go.

Master Yen Sid looked up at Riku, surprised at how boldly he approached his desk. In the past, Riku had been quiet and respectful. Actually, perhaps timid was a better word, since he was sure he wouldn't pass his Mastery Exam. Things were different now though, obviously. "Yes?" he said, waiting for Riku to make his demand. He had a feeling he knew what it was about.

"What did you tell Lightning?" Riku asked, voice low in seriousness. This was no laughing matter, not when it came to Lightning's well-being. She was scared, or sick, or...something. He wasn't sure what just yet, but he was determined to find out. Riku wanted to know what Lightning was told, and he wanted to know now.

"I explained the situation to her, just as I told you I would," Master Yen Sid said. The other matter that they spoke of was a private matter. But, he supposed that he would tell Riku if he asked if there was anything else they discussed. Now wasn't a time to be keeping secrets from one another.

"There has to be more than that," Riku argued tensely. "She wouldn't shut me out if you told her what she already knew." No, Master Yen Sid told Lightning something else. There was a portion of this that Riku wasn't hearing.

Master Yen Sid's eyebrows furrowed as he remained calm. The young man in front of him, on the other hand, was about to become anything but calm. "Calm yourself, Riku," he said evenly. "I spoke to her of one matter in depth. The thirteen Darknesses and seven Lights. I told her that she could possibly fight on our side." In other words, she could become one of the seven.

Riku's eyes widened, but then they hardened in disgust. "No!" he boomed, slamming his hands down on the table. The books on Master Yen Sid's desk shifted and a bottle shook, but Riku kept his eyes locked on the former Keyblade Master before him. "She is not being brought into this!"

Master Yen Sid didn't bother telling Riku to calm down again; he wouldn't listen. Clearly he had a close relationship with this girl. "She already has been brought into this," he responded calmly. "Now it is her choice which side to be on." Xehanort wouldn't stop until she was on their side, unless she was already claimed.

  • Author
"Why did you give her the choice?" Riku cried, outraged. "She doesn't have the proper training to take on Xehanort alongside us! She could die!" He shook his head, hands curling into fists against the desk. "I swore I would protect her, and keeping her out of this is the only way I know how." At least for right now. "I'm not going to let you throw her into a battle she's not ready for!"

"It is her choice," Master Yen Sid said firmly, rising to his feet. "Proper training or no, she was able to nearly take down two Organization members today. She is strong." With time, she could be made stronger and more refined. She could be a warrior...

Lightning leaned against a wall next to the door, which she had shut so that it only remained open a crack. Riku's fury was obvious--she knew that would be his reaction when he heard what happened. But...Master Yen Sid was right...She did fight well earlier. Could she really fight alongside Riku here? ...No, you're pathetic, Claire. Remember?

"There's a difference between Jihl and Cedric and Master Xehanort and his remnants," Riku argued, putting the knuckles of one hand down on the table. "Sora and I struggled to handle Xehanort during our exam. What makes you think that she can be ready within a month, if we even have that long? What makes you think that Kairi's even ready?" Kairi was strong too, but....he still had his doubts. He and Sora had been fighting for years now. Months had nothing on that.

Master Yen Sid already faced Riku's concerns, because he shared them. "Time is not on our side. Even when things are bleak, we put our faith in the Light. In our seven." And Kairi was a part of that seven, experienced or not. Hopefully Lightning would be as well; it'd be hard to find a better candidate.

  • Author
"We don't even have seven, Master Yen Sid," Riku said tensely, reminding the older man of what kind of reality they were facing. "Even if Lightning does join our side--which, I'll tell you right now, is highly unlikely while I'm around--where are we going to find the rest if things don't work out? Roxas might not even take our side, and Sora might not find Ventus or Master Aqua." He shook his head, staring at the Master. "I'm not saying I'm giving up. I'm just stating the facts. We are losing."

"Then it's time we began to increase our numbers," Master Yen Sid said lowly, looking at Riku as he stood taller than the teen now. He gave him a look, one scarier than his normal expression. Remember your place. They were both Masters, but Master Yen Sid was obviously above him in experience and wisdom. Riku had to remember that.

  • Author
"Fine, but Lightning's not included," Riku said, standing upright again. He wasn't easily frightened, so Master Yen Sid's sharp eyes did nothing for him. "You include her, you lose me." Riku wouldn't stick around for this. Not for innocent people to be pulled into a fight.

Master Yen Sid didn't like being threatened, but he didn't retort against it. Instead, he pushed an item forward on the desk, towards Riku. It was just a small piece of armor. "Wear this armor on your arm," he instructed. "Press the button and you'll be clothed in armor. It will also give you the ability to transform your Keyblade for transportation between worlds." In other words, this was Riku's way out of here.

Riku looked at the equipment, suddenly confused. One minute they were arguing and the next he was receiving a gift? And a helpful one at that. "...Right," Riku said lowly. He grasped the piece of armor and stepped away from the desk, knowing that this was the time for him to leave. Lightning too.

"There is Darkness in the Lanes Between that the armor will protect you from," Master Yen Sid stated, though he pushed forward a shoulder guard as he spoke his next sentence. "Lightning will need the same protection." So she may not have been a Keyblade wielder (yet), but she would have armor like one. She would need it, as he stated.

Riku gazed at the piece of armor left on the table, his body stiffening as a result. So Lightning really was being dragged into this... "Lightning," he called then, turning his head toward the next room. He knew she was there. He could smell her. It was time she came out now.
Lightning hesitantly opened the door, though she didn't make herself seen right away. While Riku had his conversation with Master Yen Sid, she had a conversation of her own with three women who called themselves fairies. They gave her new clothes...which were clear to Riku and Master Yen Sid when she stepped out of the room. She wore tall boots that went about to the knee, ripped blue jeans, and a sleeveless black vest. And her gunblade was now in a case that hung behind her legs. These were more suitable clothes for fighting.

Riku turned more to face Lightning at the sight of her clothes, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. But then it clicked. The three fairies that changed Sora's clothes on his second journey... They did the same for Lightning, so she could fight. Riku's grasp tightened on the armor at the realization, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he jerked his head toward the armor of hers on the table. She needed to grab that before they left.
