Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning turned her head at the voice, eyes narrowing immediately. This was the creep who bullied her at her last school in Bodhum. She got expelled for slugging him even though he deserved it. She turned to face him, eyes staying on the boy who was much bigger than she was. "What are you doing here?" she asked lowly, voice near a growl.

"Just thought I'd track down my favorite victim," Zane said, walking closer to the girl who managed to embarrass him back in Bodhum. "And the girl who made a laughing stock of me in the past." He wasn't about to let that happen again.

Riku heard voices up ahead, and he realized that he didn't recognize them from where he was. He continued walking, though he started to take a path farther from the water as to avoid interrupting. But...he got a bad vibe suddenly, and he wasn't sure what caused it. Could it be someone on the beach?

Lightning stood her ground without showing any signs of intimidation. Because she wasn't scared of him in the slightest. "I could do it again too," she said, keeping her eyes firmly on him. "In fact, I'd love to if you're stupid enough to give me that opportunity." She was a small girl, especially compared to him, but she could pack a punch. He knew that as well as she did.

Zane rolled his eyes. "You got lucky with that shot, you twig," he hissed, continuing to walk toward her. "That won't be happening again, I promise you that." He wouldn't allow it. He would not be humiliated again. Besides, nobody was here. Nobody to see him fall, if it happened, and nobody to come to Lightning's rescue.

Riku didn't recognize the boy's voice, but the girl's.... Is that Lightning? he silently wondered, walking between palm trees. The shadows hid him from view, and he was glad too, that way he could listen for more. The vibe he got must have been from the boy, given what he was saying. But...who was he?

"What're you going to do to stop me from humiliating you again?" Lightning challenged, the distance between them very short now. She knew he was going to be up in her face, but she didn't care. She'd give him the same treatment. "Slug me? Throw me into the ocean? Bury my face in the sand? I dare you to try." He couldn't do it. She was too quick for him.

"I'll show you what it's like to receive your own treatment," Zane quipped, only a few feet separating him and Lightning from one another. His mother grew up telling him to never hit a woman, but his father hit his mother all the time, so that rule canceled out. Lightning was a lot like his mother--snappy, arrogant, and stupid. He would teach her a lesson.

Riku stopped walking, standing in the shadows as he gazed at the two in the middle of the beach. He wouldn't dare...he thought, already feeling his adrenaline begin to pump through his blood. If he even touched Lightning, he wouldn't see tomorrow. Riku would be sure of that.

"Go for it," Lightning said evenly. If he was trying to frighten her with the threats, he was failing. Yeah, she was angry to see his face again, but she wasn't about to panic. He was all talk and muscle; there was no brain inside that thick skull of his. But she had a decent mind, so she could outwit this lug easily even if the distance between them was short.

Zane couldn't help but laugh, surprised by Lightning's confidence. "Look at you, smallfry," he said, tilting his head. "Acting all tough and whatnot, only because you think you have to. I guess you do, since your parents skipped out on you." He smirked, his expression showing nothing but amusement; no guilt for his words, and no sympathy. "You have to be tough for your baby sister because your parents went and died on you."

Riku grunted softly, though he was sure it was inaudible to the two on the beach. What? Lightning was an orphan?

Lightning didn't have a response to that. She knew if she told him to leave Serah out of it, he would keep bringing her up. But then again, his target was always Lightning personally, not Serah. Still, her glare turned more vicious and her hands curled into more solid fists. You're really asking for it now.

"So pathetic," Zane laughed, starting to circle Lightning. "You've got your panties in a bunch because Daddy won't walk you down the aisle, and Mommy won't show you how to properly cook a meal. So now you think you're tough, since you run the household." Zane stopped near Lightning, smirking. "But...what household? Looks to me like you and your sister are all alone, and with the way things are going, Serah will end up in an orphanage."

Riku nearly stepped out. Who was this guy, thinking he could talk about Lightning and Serah like that? He smelled like Darkness, and that was it. Riku was disgusted.

At the mention of Serah ending up in an orphanage, Lightning snapped. She raised her fist to slug the jerk like she had in school, but she stopped her fist a few inches short. No, she told herself. He isn't worth it. You can't slug him again and get in trouble; it'll disrupt Serah's life again. Think of Serah. But she was having a hard time controlling herself. If he said one more comment, she really would punch him. And harder than last time.

Zane looked at the fist and couldn't help but laugh. He tilted his head back with the laughter, though he then looked to Lightning. "You chickenwuss," he stated, amused and not at all intimidated. He lifted a hand and tapped the girl on the cheek. "You're so pathetic."

Riku's eyes instantly narrowed at the movement, seeing what Lightning nearly did and witnessing Zane's light slap. Enough. He started out of the shadows, knowing Lightning well enough to understand what she would do next, and that was show no mercy.

Lightning slowly lowered her fist, though she was sure to keep it balled up in case Zane did something else stupid. Her head only moved slightly at the tap before going back to its original position. Her glare was deadly. "If you know what's good for you, go back to Bodhum," she said lowly. "Remember what this pathetic chickenwuss did to you last spring." She knocked him out. Even if it was only for a few seconds, he was out.

Zane smirked. "And guess who got stronger recently?" he asked, obviously implying himself. "Touch me the wrong way, little girl, and you won't see tomorrow." He would make sure of that. No woman degraded him, in private or in public.

"I wouldn't be too sure of that," Riku said, coming to a stop beside Lightning. He put a hand on her shoulder, attempting to calm her down before something happened. Zane made eye contact with him, but only smiled in amusement. Riku only frowned, fighting the urge to slug the punk right then and there for his arrogance.

Lightning glanced up at Riku, slightly surprised to see him. His hand on her shoulder was calm, yet she could tell that he was angry for her sake. How much of this had he seen and heard? Hopefully nothing about her being orphaned; she tried to keep that a secret. "So you realized after our last encounter that you needed to get stronger," she said to Zane with her lips turning up in a slight smirk. "Guess it wasn't just luck after all."

Zane ignored Lightning's comment, looking from her to the one beside her. "What, now you've got the big Keyblade wielder backing you up?" he snickered, in disbelief at how stupid this was. "And one that fell to Darkness, I guess. What good will he do you?"

"Make sure you don't see tomorrow if you keep this up," Riku snapped, though his voice was low. Zane wasn't about to touch Lightning. He needed to leave. Now.

"Falling to Darkness and rising out of it is better than what you do: you live in it," Lightning growled, trying to shrug Riku's hand off her shoulder. She was ticked off now that somebody completely innocent was being dragged into this. "So why don't you go back to your dark pit and sink in it? You clearly don't belong here." She probably had her own share of Darkness, with all the anger and bitterness in her heart, but at least she wasn't antagonizing people for the fun of it.
  • Author

"And what, join your parents? They clearly didn't belong here, either," Zane commented. Her parents were dead before she even came to Destiny Islands. Clearly a place so peaceful didn't suit them. Death did.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed, his hand now down at his side. He curled it into a fist, wanting nothing more than to pummel this kid to the ground. Of course, the Keyblade could help, but that would be too severe.

Well, if Riku didn't know before, he does now, Lightning thought bitterly. Her hands curled tighter by her sides. "Shut up," she growled lowly. If he made one more stupid comment, she was going to give him the same treatment that she did last time at school. Consequences didn't matter. His Darkness was feeding the Darkness in her heart--her anger.

"Or what? Gonna have the Keyblade wielder defend you?" Zane looked Riku up and down, not impressed. A kook like him was a Keyblade wielder? Ridiculous.

"Watch it," Riku hissed. He would in a heartbeat. Zane wouldn't have to worry about that. But Riku knew Lightning was about to snap. Any second now, Zane would regret his comments.

If Lightning wasn't so ticked off, she would have been worried about Riku snapping. If he was more behind her, she would have put an arm out to get him to chill. Instead, she glared up at the face of Zane. "You're the one who's going to need defending when I'm done with you," she said in a low, confident tone. "Dead meat."

Zane leaned forward, getting face-to-face with Lightning. "Bring it, chickenwuss," he challenged. She hit him, and he would pummel her. End of story.

Riku was done with Zane's antagonizing. He moved to stand in front of Lightning, pushing Zane back a little. "Back off," he ordered. That was enough. He wasn't going to allow Lightning to receive that kind of treatment.

Zane was forced back, stumbling back a step. He blinked in shock, but then ground his teeth together. He took a step forward and pushed Riku as well, though the Keyblade wielder barely moved. "You back off, Keyblade loser!"

Lightning stepped up, beside Riku now. She...appreciated, his righteous fury, but his support wasn't needed. She was about to just tell Riku to back off, but upon hearing what Zane called him, she got defensive for his sake. She pulled back her fist and sent a punch at him, expecting it to land hard but not knock him out. She didn't feel like leaving him unconscious on the beach.

Riku saw Zane recoil at the impact, hearing it as well. At that, his eyes widened and he looked to Lightning. He put his hands on her shoulders and ushered her back. "Lightning," he said. This guy wasn't worth it. She had to realize that.

Zane stood upright and rubbed his jaw. "You witch!" he bellowed, seeing that the Keyblade wielder was trying to hold her back. But Zane wouldn't. She was dead.

Lightning hmphed in satisfaction, allowing Riku to take her back a few steps. She was content now, at least somewhat. That was a decent punch. But she kept her eyes on Zane even while taking a few steps backward; she could tell that he wasn't pleased. Would he really be stupid enough to try and attack her here? He was outmatched by just her, and now Riku was here to back her up. He didn't stand a chance.
