Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Vanitas smirked, starting toward Ventus and Kairi as the latter rose to her feet. She summoned her Keyblade to her hand, and Vanitas couldn't help but laugh. "Seriously?" he asked with a lift of his brow. "Sorry, but I don't have time for games. I came to strike the Princess down. Step aside." Ventus needed to get out of the way so Vanitas could finish his mission, but he knew that plan wouldn't follow through. Ventus was too stubborn.
"You came to strike her down?" Ventus retorted, frowning behind his helmet. "I bet you didn't do that under Master Xehanort's orders. He wouldn't want any of the Lights to be killed before the final fight, would he?" Of course, he knew the answer to that. Master Xehanort hadn't ordered anything against Kairi. Vanitas came out here for his own pleasure.

"Probably not," Vanitas said, stopping in his place as he looked from the armor to the Princess. "But I just wanted to see Sora's face when he found out I killed his wife." He heard Kairi grunt in disgust before she glared at him, but he only smirked. She fell for his charade so easily. The only person she could be mad at was herself.
"And I'd want to see Master Xehanort's when he found out you killed one of his necessary pawns," Ventus piped lowly, tightening his grasp on his Keyblade. He knew this was the only way to get Vanitas to back off. He was under the orders of Master Xehanort, whether he wanted to admit it or not. He couldn't kill them until Master Xehanort said so.

"That old man doesn't have anything on me," Vanitas said with a roll of his amber eyes. "True, I hold some of his essence, but I'm still me. And that's his biggest mistake." Vanitas was willing to cross Xehanort in the past, and that didn't change anything now. The old man still recruited him, but he would regret it in the future. Once they won this war, Vanitas was going to kill the old man off.

"So you're going to betray the person who brought you back?" Kairi checked, tone defensive. She was all for people being against Xehanort, but this was just ridiculous. "You're sick."

"Not as sick as you, Princess," Vanitas quipped. "You mistook me for your husband. How twisted is that?" He chuckled when her expression broke, the villain tilting his head back as he summoned a portal behind him. "It's been fun, but I've got to hit the road. I think Sora could use a visit."

"No!" Kairi cried, stepping forward instantly, but Vanitas was already gone. She watched the portal fade, her heart racing in fear. He couldn't go for Sora... He wouldn't know what to do against someone who looked just like him. He'd be so confused, and Vanitas would use that against him!

Ven put an arm in front of Kairi in order to keep her back, even if she didn't go running off into the portal. "Sora will be fine, Kairi," he said, watching the portal fade before he looked at the redhead. "He has an advantage over all your other friends--he can't make the same mistake you did." Sora couldn't mistake Vanitas to be Sora, because he was Sora himself. He'd be confused, but he could handle it. Ventus had to put his faith in Sora, since he was meant to save Aqua.

Kairi stared at where the portal used to be, but then she turned her head, looking at the person clad in armor. She couldn't see their face because of the helmet, but she did trust them. They saved her, after all. "Right," she said with a small nod. Sora would be fine...
Ventus stepped away, turning to face Kairi as he summoned his Keyblade away. "Sorry about that," he said, lifting his hands to his helmet and removing it to reveal his face. "If I had known he would hurt you, I would have stepped in sooner." He had been watching since the beginning, and he should have known something was up when Vanitas led her away from other people like he did.

Kairi blinked, gasping in shock at this person's face. He looked like... "You look just like Roxas," she said softly. But he already said he wasn't. That didn't make any sense! He sounded and looked like Roxas, so what was the deal?
Ven smiled kindly at Kairi. "I have a feeling I'm going to hear a lot of that in the future," he mused. He knew that he was identical to Sora's Nobody, though he had never met him before. Hopefully he would in the future; having a twin would be so cool! But of course, in these dark times, he couldn't focus on that. Before all else, he wanted to help Sora track down Aqua. If he could do that by ensuring Kairi's safety so Sora could keep working, he would.

Kairi sent her Keyblade away as well, smiling softly as she extended her hand. "It's nice to meet you," she said. "I'm Kairi." Of course, he'd already said her name, so he knew so. But still, she felt it necessary to introduce herself. Especially to someone that saved her life.
"I'm Ventus," he responded with his usual, cheery smile as he shook her hand. "Call me Ven." Some of his closest friends called him that, and he imagined Kairi would be one of those friends too. After all, he wasn't planning on leaving her side while Vanitas was possibly hunting her down just for his own pleasure. He'd keep her safe.

Kairi shook his hand gently, her smile remaining at his. It seemed to be one of those contagious smiles. "Alright, Ven," she said with a small nod. She released his hand, linking her hands behind her back casually. "It looks like we'll be working together from here on out." She imagined he would be sticking close; he seemed to have that protective nature about him, but he was also friendly. Surely he wouldn't save and ditch just like that. Besides, Kairi wouldn't mind the company.

"Yeah," Ven agreed, lowering his hand down by his side once the handshake was done. "Sora would never forgive me for leaving you alone after that." He smiled warmly, though he was serious. He knew Sora like he knew himself. And Sora was a very good-natured guy, but when it came to the protection of his wife, he was very serious.

Kairi hummed in agreement. "You know him?" she asked softly. Was Ven someone that Sora forgot to mention on his journeys? Surely not. Sora never forgot to mention anybody that impacted his life so much. Ventus seemed to be one of those people.
"Sort of," Ven said with a sheepish smile. "It's a pretty wild story." Ven lost his heart and wandered to Sora's, and he kept it safe there up until a few years ago. When Sora released the hearts of the princesses, Ven's heart was also freed. He's been awake again ever since. But before that, he shared Sora's life with him.

"If we have the time, I'd love to hear it," Kairi said softly. But right now was far from the time to explain any story. Kairi's mission was obviously to find Ven, that being something she recognized now. She guessed that she could now try to track down the others. Ventus was one of the Lights, if she wasn't mistaken.
"I'll have to tell all your other friends too," Ven agreed with a nod. Speaking of friends... "Why are you travelling all alone, anyway?" He knew from the past that splitting up really wasn't a great idea. It caused so much heartbreak between him, Terra, and Aqua. He hoped the two of them were alright...

Kairi's small smile disappeared immediately, and she diverted her gaze to the side. Ventus meant well with the question, just wanting to be brought up to speed, but that wasn't something Kairi liked to think about. All of her friends... "We were in The World That Never Was to save Lightning," she recalled. "We split up so we could find her quickly, but it ended up separating us all for good." She shook her head, eyebrows furrowing. "I don't even know if my friends made it out." There was a lot of commotion at one point, and she supposed that it was Riku. He always was the one to somehow create chaos, even if he didn't mean to. But it was possible with Lightning involved.
Ven hummed, understanding. "Then let's go look for them," he suggested, speaking both lightly and seriously. If Kairi was separated from her friends and worried about them, then they'd go search for them together. Ven especially wanted to meet Sora, and thank him for keeping his heart safe for so many years. He gave him a place to go when he had nowhere else to return to.

Kairi nodded, her eyes finding Ven again. "How did you get here anyway?" she asked. She had the Star Shard, which led her down the right path this entire time. But Ventus... How did he get around? Surely it wasn't a Star Shard. Those were very limited nowadays.
Ven lifted a hand to his chin, pondering it. "I can either tell you or show you," he said, his smile returning. Either he could explain the concept of a glider to Kairi, or he could show her what his looked like. Since she wasn't wearing any of the special armor, he assumed she didn't have the ability to use a glider yet.

Kairi couldn't help but smile then, remembering what she thought earlier: Ven's smile was contagious. His little joke helped out, of course. She motioned for him to show her, that seeming like the better choice anyway. She backed up a few steps, having a feeling he would need some room for this.
Ven took a few more steps away, putting his helmet back on before summoning his Keyblade back into his hand. It felt good, holding onto that weapon. He felt like he could protect people with it. He smirked faintly and pulled his arm back before he hurled the Keyblade up into the air. As it rounded about, it became his glider, which he hopped onto and soared off into the sky on confidently before returning towards Kairi.

Kairi's hands were no longer linked behind her back, instead out at her sides as she took another step back. Ventus was on a...a what? She couldn't even think of a name for it. "Wow!" she gasped, looking at the vehicle with wide eyes. That was...a Keyblade?
