Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"You didn't give me a choice!" Riku hollered over his shoulder, continuing down the hall. "When you want to fight to survive, then we'll talk." He wasn't about to deal with this. He wanted Lightning to live, more than anything, but she had to want it too. Right now, she didn't seem to care, so Riku guessed he wouldn't either.
Lightning stormed down the other part of the hallway, not even bothering to respond to Riku. So it was true then. Unless she fought on his side, she was worthless to him. It was the same for the Organization, but at least she wasn't in a relationship with any of them. They couldn't break her heart the same way that Riku was right now. If she found a way off this world, she'd pay them a visit.

A few hours passed, but Riku didn't go talk to the King, nor did he got see Master Yen Sid. He didn't even leave the world. Instead, he went outside the kingdom and used a few trees as target practice. When he was tired, he went back to the castle and the room he and Lightning shared. When he got there, he wasn't surprised to see that she had her arm wrapped up, but he was shocked to see that she was sleeping on the floor. Riku could only stare. What was she doing on the floor? Why wasn't she in the bed?
Lightning hadn't left the world like she threatened to do; as if she'd be stupid enough to do that without a weapon. She spent several hours welding her weapon back together with fire spells and finally had it mostly fixed, though it was stuck in sword form for now. After all that happened, she was too exhausted to fix it. So she returned to the bedroom, grabbed a blanket, and passed out on the floor. When Riku came in, it'd be perfectly clear that they weren't sharing a bed tonight.

Riku rolled his eyes at the message that was so clear--no sharing a bed. As if that was most important to Riku right now. He approached Lightning and lifted her up carefully, remaining silent as he put her on the bed. He would take the floor. She was stupid to think he would just let her stay there.
Lightning was faintly aware that she was being picked up, and it brought up emotions in her slumber. Mostly, it just made her feel sad. She curled up on her side and buried her face in her pillow before falling back into a deep slumber. Facing reality wasn't exactly something she wanted to do right now.

Riku left Lightning to sleep, stripping himself of his shirt and shoes before he followed Lightning's original idea. He grabbed an extra pillow and blanket and rested on the floor, allowing himself to drift into a dreamless slumber. Right now, he just wanted this day to go away.
A few hours later, Lightning awoke with a start. It was obvious that she was in the bed now, and also obvious who would have moved her. Looking over the side of the bed, she noticed Riku in her original spot. She didn't understand why he moved her since he seemed to consider her the enemy now, but she didn't wake him and ask. Instead, she picked herself up out of the bed and left in silence. She couldn’t sleep anymore, so she was going to go to the training room. She wanted to test herself against some new simulations.

Riku sensed something was off, even in his sleep. Only a few hours after Lightning left, he woke up as well. Naturally, he first noticed that it was the middle of the night still. The second thing he noticed was that he couldn't smell roses, which meant Lightning was gone. To be sure, he sat up and looked to the bed, and sure enough, it was empty. "Lightning," he grumbled, grabbing his vest and throwing it on, doing the same with his shoes as he left the bedroom. He wasn't sure where she could be in the castle, but the first place he would look was the training room. It was one of the most obvious choices.
Lightning was in the middle of a simulation, a new one. For the past few hours, she had shifted between fighting fake Heartless and taking breaks to fix her sword. She was stalling the inevitable, until now. She stood in the center of the room, seeing a figure appear in front of her. It was only a piece of data, but it looked and would fight much like the real person. Sora.

Riku made his way down to the training room in silence, moving through the dim halls quickly. If Lightning wasn't in the training room, he wasn't sure where else she could be. She couldn't exactly leave the world...but she could leave the castle. Riku frowned at the thought, but otherwise approached the training room door. Just above it, a red light was lit, which meant their was a training program running. Riku grunted and went to the next door, walking into the observation room. On the other side of the one-way mirror, he saw Lightning...and Sora.
Light's eyes widened and then narrowed when Sora swung at her, the girl lifting her gunblade and blocking the Keyblade. That was all that she did, though, before Sora went on the offensive and swung again and again. He may have been attacking, but she wasn't attacking back. She dodged his weapon multiple times with grace, realizing something quickly. If this was happening in reality, she'd probably respond the same way. She didn't want to hurt him, or any other Keyblade wielder.

Riku silently observed, leaning his hands against a small ledge on the wall, just below the one-way mirror. He didn't know what to think about this kind of program. How did Lightning even access this? When did the King put a simulation of Sora in the program? Riku never heard anything about it... He didn't think there was a need for it, until now.
When Sora suddenly blinked out of the room, Lightning quickly assumed that it was a trick of the program. And she was right. She whirled around just in time to block a dark black Keyblade, her eyes landing on those that were like Roxas's. He was wielding two Keyblades? She grunted and pressed back on her feet, jumping to avoid the white Keyblade. This was going to be hard for multiple reasons, one of the physical reasons being that her wounded arm was just dangling by her side and not doing her much good.

Riku saw what was going on, and a part of him approved. He approved of the program's tricks, but he also approved of Lightning's technique. She was staying light on her feet, just like she always had. Maybe she didn't need him to train her; maybe she was fine on her own, as long as she learned from her own mistakes.
Lightning noticed the program begin to dumb itself down for her; the simulation of Roxas kept on leaving himself open so that she could get in a hit. But every time she went on the offensive, she missed by a long shot. She couldn't fight these people. They were good, and if she was fighting against them, she was evil. But she really wasn't evil, she wasn't! She was a good person...

Riku continued to observe the training, watching Lightning fight Roxas for a while. He moved just like Roxas would, but...better. Roxas had neglected to practice with his Keyblade for a long time. The simulation programmed him to be better than the original. But Sora was moving the same just a little bit ago, so it wasn't too different from reality.
Lightning deflected Roxas's swords, witnessing him jump back and disappear. She was expecting somebody to appear and attack her, but they didn't. Her confused eyes darted around the room, looking for any sign of a simulated person. The training wasn't over, was it?

Riku lifted his arms, crossing them over his broad chest as he watched Lightning search the room. Don't let your guard down, he told her silently. If she did that, the simulations would get her when she wasn't looking. Riku kept his eyes on the girl he cared for, encouraging her from where he stood, even if she couldn't see him.

Lightning sensed movement behind her, so she spun around and pointed her gunblade at the simulation. As soon as she saw who it was, she grunted. Just standing there was a simulation of Riku. He wasn't even in his stance. But she could tell just from his eyes that he wasn't the real Riku. He was a fake.

Well, this just got interesting, Riku thought, eyebrows furrowing at the sight of his own simulation. Now he was really curious as to how the King got the data. He couldn't help but stare at himself. Obviously he looked...firm, because that was how Riku usually looked. But...Riku wasn't exactly prepared to see himself fight Lightning. He never planned on it.
Lightning jumped back, startled when Riku suddenly swung his weapon at her throat. She hardly had time to recover when he came at her again, and then again when she managed to dodge his first attack. Alright, she wanted out of this simulation! She already decided that she couldn't fight these good people. Even if she was infuriated with Riku, she couldn't bring herself to attack him.

"It's not me, Light," Riku muttered softly, watching her with steady eyes. She could go ahead and fight back. The simulations couldn't really hurt her; they were programmed to just sting whenever someone was hit. But...she had to realize that if she decided to side with the Organization, this could be reality. But if she trained with him, it would be the same. Of course, he would be a little more careful and not knock her out like he did last time. That was something he still needed to apologize for.
Lightning stuck to dodging, managing to do a good job of it even if Riku's simulation was keeping things in close range rather than the distance stuff she practiced earlier. But her face showed terror, because she realized that this could be reality. If she did get dragged to the other side, the real Riku would be attacking her like this. She winced as she stood still, Riku's simulation disappearing from in front of her and reappearing behind her, like what happened with the real Riku earlier. Only this Riku put his weapon through Lightning's back, the hologram only causing her slight pain. But the image of what happened was horrifying. Riku killing her.

Riku witnessed his hologram stab Lightning through the back, the Keyblade sticking out her front. At that point, he looked away. The look on his face was disturbing enough. Seeing the way he looked when he "stabbed" her was enough to make Riku ill. He closed his eyes and took in a breath, convincing himself that wasn't going to happen. But why else would Lightning be doing this? Why else would she be fighting the Keybladers' simulations if she didn't plan on being on the other side?
