Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Riku curled his fingers around the hand that took his away, looking Lightning in the eye. "Listen to me," he requested softly. "You have to become a warrior, but you don't have to shut out your emotions. I'm here for you. Okay?" If she needed to talk, Riku was going to be there. Always.

Lightning looked back up and caught the look in Riku's eyes, along with his words. Despite all the emotions that she felt in the past twenty-four hours, she couldn't help but smile softly at him. She was that easy to read, huh? Well, at least he was proving her wrong. She was glad for that. The girl leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him, hiding her face in his neck as her response. Thanks.

Riku didn't hesitate wrapping his arms around Lightning in return, holding her small frame to his chest securely. He rested the side of his face against her pink hair, eyes closing for the moment. He didn't want her to shut him out, like she had in the past. Riku was going to be there for her whenever she needed him. In battle, he would try his hardest to stick close to her, but he couldn't make any promises. Anything could happen.
Lightning realized then that it had been a while since Riku held her in his arms. Before the first training session, he had distanced himself to prepare for what was to come. Had she known what he had in store for her, she probably would have distanced herself as well. His training methods weren't exactly pleasant. But he was trying to toughen her up. It had to happen somehow, and it had to happen quickly.

"Let's go back to bed," Riku said after a few minutes of silence. "Tomorrow's gonna be a long day." He kept his arms around Lightning, though he slowly loosened his hold. He imagined they would start training tomorrow, and if that was the case, they both needed their sleep.
Lightning looked up at Riku, her head still on his shoulder and her arms still laced around him. "Can you promise me something?" she requested of him quietly. She needed a promise from him about tomorrow's training, so that they didn't end up screaming at each other like they did today. She couldn't handle breaking down like that again.

"Mm," Riku hummed softly, keeping his arms around Lightning since she still held onto him. He was curious as to what he could promise, but he did have a feeling. No arguing, perhaps... Something along those lines he was sure.
"If we're training later," Lightning began softly, "and I say stop, then we need to stop. Okay?" She'd be strong and not call off the fight for anything small, but if anything happened like her gunblade shattering, she'd call off the fight. Riku needed to know when to stop pushing her and let her breathe.

Riku nodded a little. "You got it," he responded lowly. He realized that he was way too hard on her today. But...he just wanted Lightning to be prepared. Of course, pushing her to her limit wasn't the best method. He had a specific idea in mind for training tomorrow, and that would be what they went with.
Lightning nodded softly against Riku's shoulder, staying there for a few more moments before she began to pull herself back. Hopefully that promise would ensure that they wouldn't fight like they did today. She predicted that some of those topics would come up again sometime, but not right now. Right now, it was time to rest.

That next morning, after Riku and Lightning went to bed, Riku took Lightning out of the training room and instead out in the open plain behind the castle. Here, they had more room to move around. Lightning had to get used to moving along rougher terrain anyway. But Riku had a specific idea in mind for today, and he had it in his pocket. Lightning would be using it to help use her other senses, which would help immensely in battle.
Lightning carried her gunblade in her hand, since she couldn't fold it up and put it in the case. She had to hurry up and fix the weapon, because using a gun was definitely one of her assets. Her previous training sessions showed just how deadly her aim could be. And that was what it would need to be in the final battle. Killing was necessary. She had to accept that.

Riku stopped once they were far enough away from the Castle, which wasn't too far. He turned to Lightning. "We won't be using the training room anymore. You need to get used to fighting on different terrain," he told her. "And you need to get used to using your other senses, which is why you'll be wearing this." He took his blindfold out of his pocket, showing it to Lightning. Her strength was distance fighting, but if someone got too close, she needed to know how to dodge them.

Lightning was immediately skeptical. Yesterday, she got into a lot of trouble and that was when she had the ability to see. Now Riku wanted to try this? As soon as she realized how cynical she was being, she reminded herself of her epiphany that morning. She wouldn't limit herself. "Alright," she said, eyebrows furrowing in seriousness as she looked from the blindfold to Riku.

Riku lifted the blindfold to his head, keeping his eyes on Lightning before the blindfold blocked his view. "I'll show you how this'll work," he said, beginning to tie the fabric behind his head. Once it was done, he summoned his Keyblade, backing up a few steps to put some distance between himself and Lightning. She could come at him in any way and any direction, but he would be able to sense her coming. She would be able to do the same soon enough.

Lightning watched Riku with curious eyes, knowing immediately that he was going to do better with this exercise than she was going to. "...Just come at you?" she checked. He was sure that he could block it even while blindfolded, but how did he expect her to do this right off the bat? It would be a while before she got it, and until then, he'd be swinging at her with a real weapon.

Riku nodded, his weapon in his hand. "Any way you want," he told Lightning lowly. He would block her attacks, but he wouldn't fight back. That wasn't what this exercise was about. She was supposed to gain confidence in her defenses with this.
Lightning remained silent for a few moments. Alright, she'd come at Riku. But she wasn't just going to charge at him. She carefully began stepping to the right in silence, hardly hearing the grass move and she was right above it. She wasn't sure if Riku could hear it or not, but she was keeping an eye on him in case he turned towards her in any way.

Riku listened carefully, his grip on his Keyblade loosening and tightening as he waited. He couldn't hear Lightning at the moment, but there would be a time when he could. It would be that moment that he would block her attack.
Lightning took her time on purpose, to see if Riku would get more anxious as time passed. But he didn't. He remained calm but on the defensive. She cautiously neared him, and when she was just two feet to his left, she swung her gunblade at him. She prayed that he'd block it, since he showed no signs of sensing her.

Riku grunted as he turned, blocking Lightning's blade with his own. Her weapon faced up, while his faced down. When he heard the clang of the metal, he smirked in Lightning's direction. Try that again, he dared her. He had some practice with this kind of thing.
Lightning blinked at Riku's fast reaction time, though a slight chuckle left her lips as she smirked at him. Alright, she was impressed. He did have an advantage over her though. He probably could smell where she was the whole time and didn't bother reacting to it. He was in a completely different league from her.

"Right before you swing, you breathe in," Riku told her, slowly lowering his blade. "That's how I knew where to turn." Lightning was quiet, incredibly so. But her intake of breath was enough to give Riku a heads up. It was small things like that that she would have to learn to recognize.
Lightning lowered her weapon as well, hearing Riku's words. So, he tuned out his sense of smell and turned just based on hearing? That was a bit dangerous, but she supposed he knew what he could handle. She hummed and nodded, though he couldn't see the latter because of the blindfold. She'd be more careful with her breathing in the future.

Riku's smirk remained, still facing where Lightning was standing. "Try again," he encouraged her softly, his weapon resting at his side. She could try a different method if she wanted; he didn't care. All he wanted to do was show her what was possible if she used her other senses.
