Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Light nodded again, stepping away from Riku to be about ten feet in front of him. This time, she'd work on being silent again, but this time, her breathing would be included in that. She wanted to see if there were any other flaws to what she just did other than the fact that she inhaled too close to Riku. She silently approached him again, and when she was close, she silently dropped down to the ground and swung her leg at the backs of his.

Riku jumped, doing a flip and landing in a crouched position. His back was still to Lightning, but he rose to his feet nonetheless. "Call that one just a feeling," he said over his shoulder, smirking again. He couldn't necessarily hear her or anything, but that one he just sensed that she was going to the ground.
"Now you're just showing off," Lightning piped, smirking as well as she rose to her feet. How was she supposed to learn to just get that feeling? Intuition was one thing, and so was a gut reaction, but again, she couldn't see herself developing that skill too easily.

Riku let his Keyblade fade away as he turned around, untying the blindfold and opening his eyes to see Lightning's expression. He only smiled at what she said, approaching her. "Your turn," he told her softly. He wouldn't attack her. He would just test her to see when she could hear him or sense him.
Lightning looked down at the blindfold before looking back up at Riku. "I may not be able to sense when you're swinging at me..." she said. It wasn't a cop-out or excuse; it was the truth. This skill wasn't one that she had yet, so forcing it in by cutting her up with the Keyblade wasn't going to work to drill it into her.

"I won't swing at you," Riku said then, shaking his head. "We're just going to work on getting you to the point where you can sense where I am." It was that simple, really, but it would take some time. Thankfully, they had it. At least for now.
Lightning nodded softly in understanding, accepting that. Good. Riku wasn't being as reckless in training as he was yesterday when he knocked her unconscious. This morning, he had Donald cast a powerful healing spell on her just to make sure that she didn't have a concussion. And it healed her arm up too, finally. It felt good to be free of pain again.

Riku stepped behind Lightning, using his blindfold to cover her eyes. He started tying it behind her head and once he was done, he spoke. "Can you see anything?" he checked. He doubted it, since Riku hadn't been able to see anything for a year with the fabric on. She shouldn't have been able to see.

Lightning previously had her eyes shut, but she peeked them open in order to answer Riku's question. "No," she said allowing her eyes to shut again. She couldn't see anything, and even if she did, she was going to keep her eyes closed. Having them open behind the blindfold was pretty uncomfortable

"Good," Riku said, stepping around Lightning to stand in front of her. "I'm just going to walk around, and I want you to tell me where you think I am. Once you get that down, we'll work on specifics." It wouldn't be too hard at first, but that would change eventually.

Lightning found herself nodded gently again, able to tell that Riku was in front of her now because of where his voice was coming from. He clearly had faith that she'd get this down, and she hoped to live up to his expectations. She had a lot of wisdom, and that would be an advantage to her as she tried to figure out which senses to rely on, but she was still nervous.

Riku worked on this exercise for a while with Lightning, and he was pleased with her positioning skills. It was only when he was more than twenty feet away that she had trouble. But he was using his voice to help her locate him. Now it was time for her to rely on just his movements.

Lightning listened in, only hearing a soft breeze and not Riku. The first part was easy because he stepped to different places and called to her, asking where he was. She got it right most of the time. But now she was just trying to hear him walking around. It was much harder, and her first instinct was to get frustrated and say she couldn't do this. That wasn't going to happen though. After all that happened, giving up wasn't an option.

Riku continued walking around at a normal pace, periodically stopping so Lightning could determine where he was. When she didn't say anything at first, he kept moving, trying to help her out.

Lightning furrowed her eyebrows, feeling a lone piece of hair land on her arm. She assumed that it was Riku's hair and not her own, considering the direction that the wind came from. "To my right?" she asked, remaining still. She hoped that she wasn't wrong, but logically, it made sense for Riku to be in that general area if his hair was coming from that direction.

Riku smiled a little. "Good," he said softly, starting to move again. They would keep this up until she was having trouble, to the point where she couldn't do this anymore. Riku had faith in her. Lightning could do this.

Lightning stayed still, not smiling despite the fact that she had been right. She wouldn't get that lucky in battle, and besides, it took her a while to come to that conclusion. This wasn't going well so far, not to her. She tried to keep that discouragement from showing in her expression though, imagining Riku's movements in her head to go with what little noise she heard. There had to be some way to get this down...

"Listen," Riku instructed gently. "Clear your head and relax." It was the only way to learn how to do this. If Lightning thought too much, she wouldn't pay attention to what was necessary. And this was incredibly essential to battle. More than likely, there would be two people against one when it came down to it.

Lightning lowered her head, inhaling a silent breath through her nose before exhaling it in the same way. She had to stop thinking so much, like Riku said. It was simple, really. Just listen for anything out of the ordinary. She couldn't make up sounds when there weren't any; that would get her into big trouble. Don't think. Just listen.

Riku felt the wind blow at his back, and whether Lightning listened to him step through the grass or smelled his cologne, she would know where he was by using those senses. Touch and sight obviously wouldn't help her here. She would have to focus. Riku stayed about ten feet away, stepping to the side and dragging his foot through the grass, wondering if Lightning could hear that.
The wind caught up on Riku's scent, or rather, the scent of the cologne, and sent it Lightning's way. That was what she sensed first, and then she heard a soft sound to accompany it. "Right again," she said quietly without moving her head. He was standing in the wind again.

Riku started moving, stepping closer to Lightning but moving behind her. Keep going, he silently encouraged her. She was doing well. She could tell where he was much more quickly that last time. Perhaps she could do it again.
Lightning furrowed her eyebrows slightly, one of her hands curling. She felt like he was...looming behind her, even if he wasn't within five feet of her. If this was a battle, she would have spun around and faced whoever was there. It just felt like her skin was crawling, because the last thing she wanted was somebody approaching from behind. Even if it was just Riku, she still didn't like being sneaked up on. "You're walking behind me," she said softly. "Getting closer."
  • Author
Riku continued getting closer, and once he was right behind Lightning, he stopped. He hoped she never let an enemy get this close to her, and if she got better at using her other senses, she probably wouldn't. That was the point of this entire exercise.
Not only did Lightning feel Riku's warmth when he was right behind her, but she still had that feeling that her gut was tangled up. This type of feeling must have been what Riku felt when he escaped her kick based on "just a feeling." Though she couldn't credit the feeling to any of her senses, it was definitely there. It just was, and she didn't question it. "You're right behind me," she said softly without moving. He was within a foot of her--If she moved, she'd be in contact with him.
