Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Oh, come on," Kairi tried, smiling a little. "There isn't any guy that you're interested in?" She lifted an eyebrow in suggestion, noticing how Namine wouldn't meet her gaze. "Nobody at all?" She saw Namine with a certain person a few days ago; Kairi knew the blonde couldn't deny that.

Namine glanced up at Kairi, seeing her look. She froze at the sight. "...What are you getting at?" she asked, eyebrows furrowing. She knew Kairi very well, and that look meant trouble. Whatever she was getting at, it frightened Namine to a point.

"You know exactly what I'm getting at," Kairi reasoned, her look remaining. Namine couldn't play dumb on this one. Kairi caught her with Roxas, and they were looking pretty friendly. Last time she checked, the two blondes barely spoke to one another.

Roxas continued to stare down at the paper without dropping the pen, but his thoughts weren't on the lyrics anymore. Namine had a crush? It was somebody in one of her art classes, wasn't it? For some reason, he felt his heart drop. He sort of liked Namine. He thought she was sweet and kind and...She helped make him feel like he wasn't just a Nobody. Even if they just talked about their arts whenever they met, he felt like she inspired him to be a less aggressive, moody person.

Namine stared at Kairi, not saying a word. What...what did I do? she couldn't help but wonder. She wasn't guilty of anything lately, not that she could really remember anyway. All she wanted was to come to lunch with Kairi, have some girl talk. She guessed she should have expected this. "Kairi..."

"Roxas," Kairi declared, going back to eating her meal. "I'm talking about Roxas." The last time she saw Namine and Roxas together, they were outside the art academy, sitting on the steps and just talking. It was the simplest of things, but it was adorable all the same.

"O-oh," Namine stuttered, blinking in surprise. Roxas. "Um..." Nothing happened between us. What is she getting at? Namine's eyes widened when she realized the point of this conversation, and she lifted her gaze from her plate to her best friend. "You...you think I...?" Kairi thought she liked Roxas?

Roxas's eyes were wider when Kairi said his name. She thought that Namine had a crush on him! That was the last thing he was expecting. For a moment, he felt his hopes soar. Maybe he really was his own person if somebody actually liked him. He knew that he was a little...depressed every once in a while, but that didn't define him anymore. He was who he was, and he must not have been too terrible if somebody actually had a crush on him.

"Bingo." Kairi took a drink of her water, watching as Namine looked bug-eyed around the table, as if she wasn't sure what to do. "Relax, would you? It's just a theory." A pretty great theory, at that. Namine and Roxas together would be so cute! But Kairi wasn't going to get her hopes up. Like Namine said, school came first.

"K-Kairi, I..." Namine lifted a hand to her forehead, shielding her eyes as well. "Where did you get that idea?" Had she seen the two of them somewhere? Interacting? It wasn't that strange anymore, though it did only happen a few times.

Kairi leaned forward, still holding her fork. "I saw you two hanging out on the steps a few days ago, at the Academy. I came by to see if you wanted to grab lunch then, too, but I saw you were busy." She smiled at her best friend, finding her reaction amusing. This was really no big deal.

Oh, that? Roxas lifted his free hand to scratch the back of his head. That day outside really wasn't a big deal at all. Another day when they were talking about art. Granted, he did enjoy the time that he spent with Namine--on that day or on any other day. If Kairi was basing her theory on just that day though, he couldn't imagine what she would think if she saw how close they sometimes sat when looking over one of Namine's drawings. But they only sat that close so they could see the picture clearly, of course. Roxas wasn't making any moves on her and she wasn't flirting with him.

Kairi set her fork down when Namine was still silent, and she reached across the table, putting a hand on her friend's wrist. "Art is your thing, I get it. But...what about romance, the knight in shining armor that every girl dreams of?" she asked. She took back her hand when Namine finally looked her in the eye again. "If I remember correctly, my prince charming used to be a crush of yours." Kairi knew Namine liked Sora in the past; it was obvious since they were connected. But everything was well. Namine and Sora were just friends now, and Sora was dedicated to Kairi. Namine's feelings had subsided.

Namine's blush grew; she could feel the heat radiating from her cheeks. "Oh goodness," she said, embarrassed now. It was so...odd, talking to Kairi about this. She and Sora were married! Namine almost tore them apart....

Wait, Namine had a crush on Sora? Roxas thought, perplexed. When did that happen? Was it...Castle Oblivion? That was probably it. When he and Namine first met, she told him that she had to take apart Sora's memories, but that she was putting them back together. That was when they were fifteen. Well, sort of fifteen. It was complicated since they were both "born" that year. He chased away those thoughts, hoping neither of the girls looked over and saw him. That would have been awkward.

Kairi smiled, giggling lightly. "So...if you could have had a crush on Sora, why can't you have a crush on somebody else?" she reasoned, shrugging a little. "Roxas is a good choice. You guys are friends... You have a past, right?"

"By 'past,' I assume you mean both of us helping each other. I had to guide him to Sora," Namine recalled, speaking softly at the memories. "And...he gave me the strength to do what was right, for everyone." She defied DiZ on multiple occasions, but she had to. If she hadn't, she and Kairi wouldn't have been sitting here.

Roxas couldn't believe what he was hearing. He actually had a positive influence on Namine when they first met? He helped her defy that stupid, prejudiced DiZ? Granted, Roxas didn't have his memory at that time, but wasn't he still himself in some ways? Caring about friends, wanting to help them and wanting to know the truth no matter how painful...Maybe he wasn't so bad after all, in the past or in the present.

Kairi nodded, agreeing. "Sounds like a good choice to me," she said. "He's sweet, caring, funny...complicated at times, but a good mystery." Roxas was a lot of things; it just took a while to figure him out. Kairi got around to it eventually, and Roxas really was a good guy. She got a glimpse of him when they were connected one time, before Sora woke up.

"Yes," Namine agreed softly. "He is sweet, and caring." She caught a glimpse of that firsthand, when he helped her with her art when she was stuck. He was a good person. "But...he's no Sora." She had fallen for Sora after she got visions of him--how great he was, how kind and funny, wholehearted and charming... Roxas was the opposite at times, more full of angst and mysterious, like Kairi said. The Nobody was nearly opposite from the Somebody, though they did hold similar qualities.

Roxas abruptly stood up. I'm no Sora. That was what Namine saw him as?! Somebody similar to Sora, but not nearly as good as him? All the encouragement that he felt a moment ago about actually being a decent person shattered with that comment. Decent person or not, he was no Sora. He walked away with his paper in hand, crumpling it as he walked to the exit. He was so stupid. How could he have thought he'd ever be more than Sora's Nobody?

Kairi absently looked behind Namine when she spoke those words, and her eyes widened when she saw a familiar blond head. "Namine..." she said softly, her smile gone completely. "I...I think he heard you."

"Hm?" Namine hummed, confused. She followed Kairi's gaze, turning her head to look down the aisle. That was when she saw the spiky hair, which could only belong to Roxas. She turned around, covering her face with her hands. Oh no....

'I think he heard you.' Ya think? Roxas mentally snarled. He opened the restaurant door and walked outside, and though the sun was shining in the sky, his heart was darker again. Well he could forget being Namine's friend now. If she wasn't willing to accept him as Roxas and not as Sora's Nobody, then there was no point being with her. He'd either find somebody else to encourage him or he'd just be alone again. Probably the latter.

"Oh no," Namine said aloud, her voice muffled in her hands. "What did I just do?" She just...insulted Roxas, right in his face! How could she do such a thing? But...I had no idea he was there. It's not my fault...right? No, it doesn't make a difference. I hurt him anyway. Namine felt doom settle in her heart, suddenly feeling sick. Oh no...

"Namine, relax," Kairi said, placing her hands on the table. "It's okay." Roxas...what could she say to him to make this okay? There had to be something, right? For some reason, Kairi doubted that, which was why she looked out the window, seeing their friend go down the road. It looked like their girl talk was over for today.

The Next Day

School was a good distraction for Roxas. Fortunately for him, being a music major made him extremely busy. True, he was focused on vocals, but he had to learn some other instruments too. That was why instead of practicing guitar at his normal time, he was practicing piano in the next room over. The music wasn't angry sounding, but it wasn't happy either. He was just sort of letting his hands dance over the piano to play a softer, sadder song that was heartbreakingly beautiful at the same time.

Namine walked down the hall of the Music Wing, her sketchpad and a textbook in her arms as she searched for one of her friends. Well, possibly one of her friends. She wasn't exactly sure anymore. After the comment she made at lunch the day before, she wouldn't be surprised if Roxas didn't want to speak with her. But...she had to apologize. She felt so awful.
This is actually...good, Roxas thought as his fingers lightly danced over the keys. It was so simple, yet when he added in a few chords with his left hand, it added a little more darkness. Yet the right hand played a sad tune that could be made happier if he did it faster. Today he was going to keep it slow though. It fit his mood well, whether he was going to admit it or not. Yesterday hurt.

"Roxas?" Namine called, stopping in the doorway of the room he usually practiced in. However, the room was empty. Her expression fell in disappointment, and she leaned against the doorframe, sighing. How badly have I hurt him? she wondered. The music in the background was surprisingly similar to her mood--down, sad. But the music was so...beautiful. Whoever was playing truly knew how to capture emotion with music.
Roxas didn't hear the call, though the rooms weren't soundproof like the school originally assured him they were. But he was the one right by the piano, so that was what he could hear. And that was what his heart focused on. If only he could write this down and play it at the same time! He wanted to save this for future use. He hoped that just because it was improvised didn't mean that he'd forget it before he could write it down.

Namine pushed herself away from the doorframe, supposing she would talk to Roxas some other time. She started down the hall, consequently passing the room with the piano. She glanced in the window on the door as she passed, but that was when she stopped. She took a step back and approached the door, focusing. That hair... Roxas! The door was cracked open slightly, not completely shut. Pushing her limits, Namine stepped forward and pulled the door open quietly, so she wouldn't disturb Roxas. He was the one playing the music so beautifully. He was the one capturing emotion...
Roxas repeated the pattern in his head even as his fingers kept playing. Okay, he decided after a minute. He needed to stop and write this down while it was still fresh in his head. He stopped playing the music and reached for a pencil to fill in the sheet music that was already blank in front of him. He wondered if he could somehow recreate this on his guitar; that would sound beautiful too.

Namine saw how hard Roxas was concentrating, and since he was writing things down, she wasn't going to speak. She couldn't interrupt him and cause him to lose the notes. If she did that, he would dislike her even more. Instead, she silently observed him at work, finding it almost...attractive, since he was so focused. Namine felt her heart skip a beat when she realized something: the way Roxas furrowed his eyebrows when he concentrated was kind of...cute.
Roxas was partway done the notes when he realized something: he felt somebody's gaze on him. That made him feel unnerved right away. He put down the pencil and turned around halfway, hoping that he was just paranoid and imagining that somebody heard him. Unfortunately, he wasn't. Namine was there and looking flabbergasted.

Namine met Roxas's eyes, and she froze. Oh shoot... "Um...sorry," she said, looking away nervously. "I-I didn't want to interrupt. You were playing so beautifully, and then I noticed that you were trying to memorize the notes and I..." The girl looked up at the boy at the piano, trailing off. Iguess I should shut up now.
