Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku approached Cedric in silence, glaring at him before he brought his arm back and slugged him in the face. The older man stumbled back a few steps before falling onto his side, and at this point, Riku summoned his Keyblade away, the weapon disappearing from Cedric's back. Riku marched forward and picked up Lightning, holding her bridal style to his chest as he glared at Cedric one last time. The man retreated into a Dark Portal, which left Maleficent and the Heartless. Riku only spared her a glance before he hurried out of the room, after his friends.

Light kept her eyes open halfway, feeling Riku's secure arms around her as he held her. Finally, an end was in sight. She felt like she could pass out now in his arms, but she knew passing out would have been bad. She was so weak though. So tired...

Riku left the room and turned a corner, seeing his friends were moving quickly further down the hall. "Sora!" he called, picking up his pace to a light jog with Lightning in his arms. He caught Aqua turn around at least, and she waved him on quickly, calling "Hurry!" in his direction. Clearly Maleficent wasn't kidding with what she said; they needed to leave right away.
Sora glanced back, relieved to see Riku and Lightning. But the latter...really didn't look good. He gave Riku a brief look, one he should have understood. You gotta keep her awake. The Guardian seemed to have her so weakened that if she passed out, she could become comatose. That was the last thing they wanted.

Riku nodded to Sora in understanding, also urging him forward. Kairi was hurrying on with Namine under her arm, almost protectively, while Aqua was right behind them. Riku looked down at the girl in his arms, her armor hurting his chest. However, he didn't care and decided to look past it. "Light," he called softly. "Babe, look at me." She had to stay awake.

Light looked up at Riku weakly, her head resting on his shoulder. He was a sight for sore eyes, that was for sure. He always seemed to catch her at her worst moments though... Why did he see her now, rather than when she was making a valiant stand against Ansem? She had been doing a good job until the attack that took her down, not that Riku would know any of that.

"Eyes on me, okay?" Riku said, glancing at Lightning before looking up to see where his friends were going. "Right on me." He lowered his sight to her again, wanting nothing more than to comfort her. But right now, he had to focus on keeping her awake and getting her out of here. She couldn't close her eyes. He couldn't have her going into a coma.
Lightning silently kept her eyes on Riku, that being her response. She knew what was going through his head--he didn't want to worry over her tiredness. But that seemed to be a critical problem right now, so she wouldn't protest. It wasn't like she even could protest with what little strength she had.

Riku kept Lightning to his chest as he followed his friends out, all of them reaching the beam that connected the castle to the city. He approached it and looked down at Lightning. "Keep those pretty eyes open," he told her, tightening his grasp on her. He then stepped forward and began to slide down the beam after his friends, reaching the other side within about ten seconds. Everyone was beginning to summon their armor, and Riku would have to do the same. But he couldn't with Lightning in his arms, so she would have to push the button on his arm guard for him.

Though Riku told her over and over to keep her eyes on him, Lightning shut her eyes when they were going down the beam because of the wind in her face. And even once they reached the bottom, she found she couldn't open her eyes again. How long was she even supposed to hold on? She couldn't last much longer...

Riku looked down at Lightning, and when he saw her eyes were closed, his widened. "Wait!" he called to his friends, capturing their attention. "Guys, wait!" Riku had to have help here; Lightning's eyes weren't opening. He knelt down and set Lightning gently against a nearby building, lifting one of his hands to her face immediately. "Lightning...open your eyes. Come on."
Lightning leaned her face against Riku's hands, eyebrows furrowing slightly at his desperation. She wished she could stop him from worrying so much! She wished she'd just suddenly get a burst of energy and be okay for a while. But she couldn't...The Guardian sapped nearly all her strength.

Kairi saw what was happening, and she didn't hesitate hurrying to Riku's side. She knelt down on the other side of Lightning, hearing Riku continue to ask Lightning to look at him. It was...heartbreaking to hear Riku so desperate. He was never like this before. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"The Guardian..." Riku started, his eyes staying on Lightning. "He possessed her. She's got too much Darkness in her heart. It's hurting her." If she didn't snap out of it soon, she would go into a coma. Riku wasn't sure for how long.

Darkness? Kairi wondered silently. There was an imbalance in Lightning's heart, that was what Riku was saying. She lifted a hand to his arm outstretched towards Lightning, catching his attention. "I can help," she told him softly. She could fix the balance in Lightning's heart. But Riku didn't seem convinced. Kairi tightened her grasp on his arm. "Riku...I can help."

Lightning's head drooped in Riku's hands, the voices too dim for her to decipher. Too dim to realize that if she held on for just a few moments longer, she'd be all right. It was too late though; she couldn't hold on any longer. She lost consciousness, surrounded by friends while the one who loved her continued gazing at her with a heartbreaking expression.

Riku felt Lightning's head fall slack in his hand, and he turned his eyes to her immediately. "Lightning?" he called softly. When she didn't respond, he lifted his other hand to cup her face, lifting it. "Lightning! Lightning, look at me." But she wouldn't. She was already unconscious.

Kairi took off her helmet and set it beside her, hearing Riku's panic. It broke her heart. Riku never worried about someone so immensely before. It only meant that Lightning was special, and that encouraged Kairi to help. She grabbed Riku's arms and softly told him to let go. When he did, he seemed reluctant, but all that mattered was that he was giving her a chance. Once he backed up a little, Kairi put a hand over Lightning's heart, closing her eyes and exhaling a breath. Some of her Light would have to be sacrificed, but it would be worth it.

Sora watched in solemn silence along with everyone else in the group. Lightning destroyed a fragment of Xehanort's heart, whether she was trying to or not. And now she was dealing with this...It wasn't fair, for her or for Riku. He walked over and joined the small group, setting a hand on Riku's shoulder. She'll be okay.

Riku glanced up, catching the message from Sora's touch and silence alone. He couldn't exactly see his face since his friend had his armor on, but he understood anyway. Riku nodded slightly, but his eyes went back to Lightning immediately. A warm light was glowing underneath Kairi's hand, and he knew instantly what she was doing. Kairi was giving the girl he cared for some of her Light. But...he could see Kairi's expression change as time went on; she was growing weaker with every ounce of Light she put into Lightning's heart.
Sora watched for a few moments, also catching Kairi's expression changing. "...Don't push it, Kai," he said quietly, sure that Riku agreed. Lightning would be alright even if Kairi gave her just a little bit of Light; she didn't need to exhaust herself. After all, they still had to make it back to Disney Castle to recover.

Kairi opened her eyes at the words, the glow beneath her hand fading. She exhaled a soft breath. Transferring her Light always did tire her out. "I tried correcting the imbalance in her heart," she told her friends, though she focused mostly on Riku. "I hope that's enough." It was all she could do.

Riku nodded to Kairi in gratitude, moving to pick Lightning up again. They needed to get going. He guessed he would just have to wait to see Lightning's eyes again.

Sora took his hand away when Riku moved to get Lightning, and if Kairi hadn't already been adorned in her armor, he would have set a hand on her back to comfort her. Instead, he took a few steps away and summoned his glider. The castle was now teeming with Maleficent's dark fire, so that was their cue to get out of here. Today, she wasn't their enemy.

The next day...

Riku stopped outside the room he and Lightning shared the past two weeks, turning to their newest guest. Serah. Sora had the idea of encouraging their families to go into hiding once Xehanort and his remnants disappeared, so now they were all at the King's castle. "Wait here," he advised. He had to check and see if Lightning was awake or not. If she was, he wanted to at least let her know someone was here to see her.

Serah nodded to Riku, standing outside of Lightning's room. She hadn't seen her sister since arriving at the castle, but she had been told about the situation. Or so she thought. In truth, Riku made up a story. He said the villains took Lightning at first to get to him, and that she had been safe here since the day that she went missing. The reason she was asleep now was because Riku trained Lightning hard that morning and she was tired. But...that didn't seem right. Everyone in the castle seemed too uptight for that when Serah asked about Lightning. What was Riku hiding...?

Riku opened the door and stepped in, leaving it open only a crack once he was inside the room. Lightning was still out cold, and it had been a day and a half since they left The World That Never Was. He sat down on the bed beside her, lifting a hand to brush her bangs away from her eyes. "Lightning?" Riku tried gently. As predicted, she didn't respond. "Someone's here to see you... Wake up soon so you can see her again, okay?" Riku ran his thumb lightly over Lightning's cheek, releasing a soft breath. She would wake up soon...

Serah stepped into the room despite how Riku told her to wait, the girl not seeing Lightning's expression because Riku was in the way. She heard those words though, and saw his posture. "...You lied to me, didn't you?" she asked quietly, staring at Riku from her spot just inside the room. Something was wrong; that was why he brought her here. It wasn't just to see her sister again...

Riku turned his head to look at Serah, quiet for only a moment. He nodded a little, lowering his gaze to the floor before looking back to Lightning. "She's in a coma, Serah," he revealed softly. This wasn't supposed to happen, though. Lightning was supposed to be okay...
